BEDFORD
Nude man on Sanctuary trail
On Saturday, Aug. 8, at 12:25 p.m., police were alerted by a Westmoreland Sanctuary employee that a nude man was reported on the trail by a female hiker who accidentally encountered him. She told police he attempted to cover himself when he saw her. The woman declined to speak to police although she did take the man’s picture. He was identified by the photo and the license plate on his car parked in the sanctuary parking area. Police visited him at his Katonah home. The man, 79, did not provide a reason for hiking naked. The park employee was advised no crime was committed but suggested a code of conduct sign be posted for hikers enjoying the sanctuary. The employee said they would take that into consideration.
Monday, Aug. 3
9:51 a.m. — Police went to a residence in Katonah after a person requested a welfare check on the resident who they described as a “hoarder.” No one answered the door although two vehicles were parked in the driveway. The officer noted the property was overgrown and the home appeared neglected. Phone contact was made with the resident who said they did not feel like answering the door. The Building Department was notified regarding the condition of the property.
7:25 p.m. — A Katonah resident reported a person going door to door. That individual was located and said they were collecting signatures for NYPIRG. Advised they needed a permit to solicit, they left the area.
Tuesday, Aug. 4
1:33 a.m. — A Bedford man, 85, whose wife called the police to say he fell and couldn’t get up, was observed by police to have a laceration on his right arm. He was alert and conscious and allowed a Bedford firefighter medic to bandage him but declined further medical attention.
9:31 a.m. — A business owner in Bedford reported a former employee terminated two months earlier and failed to return their work laptop. Police left a message for the property to be returned. The business owner advised if it was not returned they should consider it a civil matter.
Wednesday, Aug. 5
8:04 a.m. — Two cars collided on Girdle Ridge Road and Girdle Ridge Drive, Katonah, after one driver, a resident of Brewster, 44, said he fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into oncoming traffic. The second driver, a resident of Hazleton, Penn., 36, attempted driving on the grass to avoid being struck and instead hit a rock wall. He complained of whiplash and was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. Both cars were towed. No citations were issued.
11:36 a.m. — A horse was reported in the roadway on Chestnut Ridge Road. A caller said they would hold onto it until the owner was found. The owner arrived and the horse was returned.
Thursday, Aug. 6
1:53 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Bedford Hills for a domestic incident between a wife and husband who argued about a horse. The wife was upset and incoherent, and complained of pain to her hip which she said was the result of a fall she’d had earlier. An officer spoke with the daughter who said her mother was intoxicated and also experiencing an altered mental status. The husband was not on scene. She was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
6:30 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Bedford Hills after a couple argued over his failure to sufficiently apologize for an earlier argument; he called 911. He told police she followed him around the house and slapped the back of his head. She told police they argued but denied the slap. They agreed to separate for the evening and domestic violence advocacy information was provided to both parties.
Friday, Aug. 7
9:04 a.m. — A dead deer reported in the roadway at Cherry Street and Harris Road was transferred to the Highway Department.
9:47 p.m. — A resident on McLain Street, Bedford Hills, reported a bat inside the home but called back to say a nuisance control company was on their way and they didn’t need assistance.
Saturday, Aug. 8
9:41 p.m. — Police checked on a Katonah woman after her sister requested a welfare check after not hearing from her for several days. Contact was made over the phone and that sister said she was OK.
Sunday, Aug. 9
4:31 a.m. — A Bedford Hills woman called the police to say her son, 10, was bitten by a bat in his bedroom while he slept. The bat was located in an area where it couldn’t be removed. The mother was advised to shut the bedroom door and contact a wildlife specialist. No bite marks were observed on the child. His mother said she would take him to the hospital herself anyway.
8:16 a.m. — Police assisted a labrador retriever who got itself stuck in the reservoir in the vicinity of Old Post Road, Bedford. The dog was safely returned to its owner.
9:51 a.m. — A “dancing man” was reported in the rear parking area on the Route 117 Bypass Road, Bedford Hills. A patron of a gym in that complex said he often saw him dancing and then entering the woods. Police said the man was gone on their arrival.
3:40 p.m. — Two adolescent bears were reported by a resident on Old Post Road, Bedford, who said they were stuck in his pool. The caller called back a short time later to say the pair figured out how to get out and had returned to the woods.
4:24 p.m. — A caller on Old Post Road, Bedford, reported an injured cat on their property. Police observed the animal’s back legs were injured and transported the cat to Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster.
8:33 p.m. — A large white dog reported lost on Cherry Street, Katonah, was returned to its owner.
8:47 p.m. — A resident on Haines Road, Bedford Hills, reported four gunshots fired in the area. Police canvassed the area with no results.
LEWISBORO
Monday, Aug. 3
4:25 p.m. — Police went to a group home in Goldens Bridge for an activated alarm but found no cause and the home unoccupied. The home appeared secure.
Tuesday, Aug. 4
12:37 p.m. — A man, 21, was taken by Lewisboro ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for an evaluation following a mental health incident. Lewisboro Police were joined by multiple units of New York State Police as a possible rifle was mentioned as part of the incident. No further information was provided.
5 p.m. — A missing person was reported by someone looking for them in the vicinity of the Lewisboro Library, where he had been seen and appeared confused. The person in question is known to have dementia. He was located at home in the care of the reporting party and in good spirits.
9:20 p.m. — Police impounded a Toyota with nonworking license plate lights that had been traveling west on Route 35. The driver told police they didn’t have a driver’s license but produced a foreign passport. The vehicle was towed and the operator given multiple summonses.
Wednesday, Aug. 5
2:19 p.m. — A female, 14, experiencing seizures was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center from the Salem Medical Center on Main Street, South Salem, after she turned blue around the mouth and fell to the floor. Five rounds of CPR compressions to the chest were conducted until she was responsive.
6:30 p.m. — A blue Honda was impounded after being observed on Route 22, Goldens Bridge, in the vicinity of North Street. Police said it had overly tinted windows. The operator said they had no license and produced a foreign identity card. The car was towed and the driver issued two summonses.
Thursday, Aug. 6
3:45 p.m. — A car flipped over and ended up balanced on its roof on Kitchawan Road. The operator said they swerved to avoid another vehicle and struck a rock, resulting in the flip. The driver showed police an abrasion on their right arm but declined medical attention. The car was towed.
4:30 p.m. — A child who escaped their stroller and ran into the street in a South Salem parking lot fell and wound up under a Toyota pickup which may or may not have hit him; he was back in the stroller when police arrived. Paramedics observed abrasions on his head and advised he be brought to Danbury Hospital where it was determined he had a linear skull fracture. He was then taken to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.
Friday, Aug. 7
8:58 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem for an electrical burning odor. Firefighters found a hot breaker. South Salem firefighters remained on scene until an electrician arrived.
Saturday, Aug. 8
4:00 p.m. — Police took custody of a dog found on the corner of Bouton Road and Apple Court. The owner arrived on scene shortly after to claim their pet who they said ran off at the sound of thunder when they were outside and they were giving it a bath.
5:46 p.m. — A Honda with no front license plate and darkly tinted windows was pulled over and later impounded on Route 123, South Salem. The driver admitted to having no driver’s license and produced a foreign identity card. He was issued multiple summonses.
10:20 p.m. — Police responded to a noise complaint outside a multiple dwelling residence in Goldens Bridge. Observed were three teens talking. Police neither heard nor saw any problem.
Sunday, Aug. 9
10:00 a.m. — Lewisboro Police met with New Canaan Police at a residence on Journeys End Road, South Salem, after a wife reported a domestic incident, verbal only, with her spouse. She left with her son prior to police arrival. Her husband said they argued because she wanted to take their son to the beach and he wanted him to stay home.
7:40 p.m. — A male, age unknown, was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital after his girlfriend called 911 to say he sent her a text threatening self-harm.
POUND RIDGE
Wednesday, Aug. 5
9:17 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for speeding, doing 51 mph in a 30-mph zone.
Thursday, Aug. 6
10:42 p.m. — A man was taken by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.
Friday, Aug. 7
7:41 a.m. — A summons was issued to a driver on Westchester Avenue for failure to stop at a stop sign.
9:01 a.m. — Six summonses were issued to a commercial driver traveling on Westchester Avenue for various safety violations and for not being in possession of a valid commercial license.
11:23 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for talking or texting while driving.
12:26 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for speeding, doing 49 mph in a 30-mph zone.
12:39 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for speeding and no inspection sticker.
8:02 p.m. — A tree reported blocking Upper Shad Road was referred to the highway department.
Saturday, Aug. 8
4:10 p.m. — Trespassing was reported by a resident on Bob Hill Road who told police people were coming onto his property to access the reservoir to fish. Police spoke with a man who said his son and some friends were fishing and they wouldn’t trespass again.
MOUNT KISCO
Sunday, Aug. 2
8:12 a.m. — Police received a report of a car driving into bushes in a parking lot in the 400 block of Main Street. No injuries reported.
12:34 p.m. — Police received a report of a pedestrian struck by a car in the South Moger Avenue parking lot. A 71-year-old Brewster woman was walking to her car when a pickup truck backed out of a parking space and struck her, knocking her down and driving over her right leg. She was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The driver, a Bedford Hills man, remained at the scene.
4:20 p.m. — An officer on patrol on North Moger Avenue observed a man with an open bottle of beer. The man was issued a summons for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a violation. He is due in court Sept. 3.
8:17 p.m. — An officer conducting a foot patrol and inspection at the Early Settlement Trail encountered a group of men, two of whom were in possession of open cans of beer. The officer escorted the men back to his patrol vehicle and issued them summonses for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a violation. They are due in Mount Kisco Justice Court on Sept. 3.
11:21 p.m. — An officer responded to Kensico Drive to assist a woman who struck her head on her car door while getting out of her vehicle. Westchester EMS and the Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded. The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Monday, Aug. 3
10:35 a.m. — An officer was dispatched to the Green Street precinct to meet a man at the callbox who wanted to report check fraud. A report was prepared.
3:46 p.m. — An officer on patrol in the 600 block of East Main Street observed a man on vacant commercial property that is posted with “No Trespassing” signs. The man was found in possession of an open can of beer. He was issued summonses for trespass and public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, both violations. He is due in village court Sept. 10.
4:21 p.m. — Officers responded to the 300 block of North Bedford Road on a report that a pedestrian was struck by a car in a parking lot. A man told officers that a vehicle made minor contact with him and he was not injured. He declined medical attention.
5:37 p.m. — An officer on patrol at South Moger Avenue and Kirby Plaza observed a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. The man was issued a summons for violating a village ordinance.
7:45 p.m. — A 49-year-old man was charged with third-degree menacing after he allegedly threatened to harm a taxi driver during an argument in Kirby Plaza. The driver told officers he beeped his horn and waved toward a fellow driver when the suspect became enraged because he thought the driver had beeped at him. Witnesses told officers the suspect punched the rear of the taxi, challenged the driver to get out of his vehicle to fight and made threats to find the man and harm him. The suspect, who was intoxicated, was taken into custody, booked at the Green Street precinct and held for arraignment.
Tuesday, Aug. 4
5:13 a.m. — Report of a man causing a disturbance outside an East Main Street business. Condition corrected.
12:08 p.m. — An officer was dispatched to the Green Street precinct to meet a person who reported being defrauded via a text message.
2:14 p.m. — An officer responded to the pool at Leonard Park on a report of a 12-year-old girl who was unconscious but breathing. The girl was conscious and alert upon the officer’s arrival. Westchester EMS evaluated the girl on the scene. The girl and her father declined any additional medical attention.
8:08 p.m. — An officer on patrol at Lexington Avenue and East Main Street observed a group of men at the entrance to the Early Settlement Trail, one of them in possession of an open can of beer. The man was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol, a violation. He is due in village court on Sept. 10.
9:04 p.m. — An officer on patrol in the 400 block of Main Street observed a man sitting on a wall at St. Mark’s Cemetery with an open can of beer next to him. The man was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol, a violation. He is due in village court on Sept. 10.
Wednesday, Aug. 5
5:56 p.m. — The Peekskill Police Department advised that it had a woman in custody who was wanted on a Westchester County police warrant issued by the Mount Kisco Justice Court. An officer responded from headquarters to take the woman into custody. The 51-year-old Bronx woman was booked on charges of fourth-degree grand larceny and petty larceny and held overnight at headquarters for arraignment the next day.
Thursday, Aug. 6
10:10 a.m. — Officers responded to the 300 block of Main Street on a report of a person possibly living in a wooded area behind the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester. Officers found a tent and some possessions but no one was present. DPW was notified to remove the property.
5:02 p.m. — Officers responded to Target on North Bedford Road on a report of a larceny. Store security detained a 66-year-old Holmes, N.Y., woman and alleged that she had tried to leave the store without paying for $100 worth of merchandise in her possession. The woman was booked at the Green Street precinct on a charge of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. She was released pending an Aug. 20 appearance in village court.
5:51 p.m. — Officers responded to a building in the 400 block of Lexington Avenue on a report of a 46-year-old man who was possibly deceased in the basement. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel. Due to very poor air quality in the basement, the death investigation was halted to allow the Mount Kisco Fire Department and the Westchester County Police Department Hazardous Device Team to assess the environment to ensure the safety of investigators on the scene. After the area was deemed safe, detectives and the Westchester County medical examiner’s office personnel completed the death investigation and the deceased was removed. The man was tentatively identified by an officer at the scene who had issued him a summons several days earlier. The summons was found in the man’s possession. The Westchester County medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy the next morning and concluded the man had died of natural causes.
