BEDFORD

On Wednesday,  April 15, at 6:15 p.m., a Bedford Hills man reported calls for help by a neighbor who told responding police he had been yelling at his phone in frustration.  

Monday, April 13

2:02 p.m. — A Pawling man who months earlier reported having given hundreds of thousands of dollars to a man in Bedford Hills who died before completing restoration work on his vintage Rolls Royce returned to headquarters to say he’d located his car and it was missing its hubcaps, grill and hood ornament. He requested a report for his insurance.  

6:04 p.m. — A Katonah landlord reported the discovery of a dead cat wrapped in a blanket at the rear of his property while clearing refuse he believes was left by a tenant he’s in the process of evicting. Police spoke with the tenant who said her intention was to bury the cat. The landlord was advised to cease all interaction with her while the eviction case was ongoing. The cat’s remains and the blanket were returned to her.

Tuesday, April 14

8:54 a.m. — A check was reported stolen, washed and cashed by a fraudster stolen from the mailbox in front of the Katonah post office. The complainant spoke with their banking representative and a report was made for documentation. Police advised the victim to speak to the postmaster.  

5:57 p.m. — A mom requested a welfare check on her son, 14, who she said was not at school when she went to get him. She thought he might be at his father’s home on Lakeside Drive, Katonah. The child answered the door and said he was fine. A report was made to his mother. 

8:00 p.m. — A young man reported screaming and uprooting plants was located by police in a parking lot by Peppino’s Ristorante, Katonah, where he and his family were dining. He said he had an outburst at the table and had to leave. He went home shortly after in the car with his parents. 

Wednesday, April 15

9:30 a.m. — An employee at a bike store in Katonah told police they’d been defrauded by two people who came into the store requesting parts they wanted to order. They requested the bill be split into two separate payments but had no card on them. The employee tapped in numbers they provided as credit. Soon after the transaction the employee received a call from the actual cardholder who said the purchases were fraudulent. Video was provided to the police as well as phone texts. Detectives are investigating.   

4:35 p.m. — Police responded to a complaint regarding a political sign on a telephone pole at the intersection of Mount Holly Road and Cross River Road, Katonah. They said the sign was “inappropriate” and the New York State Department of Transportation was contacted to remove it.  

Thursday, April 16

4:12 p.m. — A Katonah woman, 76, was defrauded out of approximately $20,000 by a hacker who contacted her regarding annual service to her computer. She told the caller she’d canceled her contract and was passed on to another man who said because of her former account he had access to her bank records. He transferred money from one account to another while on the phone with her. Soon after, she went to her bank who froze her account and changed all her passwords. A police report was made for documentation and for her bank. 

6:52 p.m. — Three loose dogs were reported by the Rippowam Cisqua school field on Clinton Road. Police spoke with several children and their parents who saw the dog but couldn’t find them.   

8:49 p.m. — Police went to Nightingale Road, Katonah, for a domestic complaint after the resident said his former girlfriend was refusing to leave his driveway. After a short conversation with the officer, she left. 

Friday, April 17

1:29 p.m. — A Bedford woman came to headquarters after she was notified by a Bedford Village Elementary School administrator regarding an altercation her son had with a substitute teacher. The substitute teacher was removed and the principal became involved. The mother was requesting more information about the substitute teacher; police contacted the principal who said they would be in touch with the mother about making a formal report.   

4:46 p.m. — Police went to a home in Katonah after a school bus driver dropping off a young child was approached by the child’s mother who was making odd-sounding claims about a danger in the area. The Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the mother to Northern Westchester Hospital while an officer stayed with the child until her grandmother arrived. Child Protective Services was contacted as well as the Westchester County Crisis Team.  

Saturday, April 18

11:17 a.m. — A collision brought police to the intersection of Green Lane and Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. Both parties claimed the fault was with the other driver; one driver was from Bedford Hills, the other from White Plains. No injuries were reported and neither vehicle required a tow. No citations were issued.  

11:18 a.m. — A man, 55, from Mount Kisco, was taken by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital after his leg made contact with a chainsaw he was using while working on a Bedford property.  

4:19 p.m. — Police spoke with a homeowner in Bedford Hills who wanted assistance removing a recently terminated employee from the property. The homeowner said the man was cursing him out and he wanted him trespassed. Police spoke with the man who said he would leave and not come back. 

Sunday, April 19

2:15 a.m. — Police went to an address in Katonah after a father, who lives in the Bronx, is said to have made verbal threats and used abusive and humiliating language to his oldest child, who lives in Katonah with her mother. The older child called police after witnessing a domestic incident that happened earlier in the day in the Bronx when she was picking up younger siblings who told her they felt unsafe. A New York state domestic incident report was completed. NYPD confirmed to Bedford Police they’d been to the Bronx residence. Child Protective Services was also contacted. 

5:08 a.m. — A young teen boy was taken from his Bedford home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after he was bitten by the family dog, who he startled when it was sleeping. Police said he had three small lacerations to his face. The mother provided the dog’s immunization records and a dog bite form was completed. The dog control officer was notified of the incident.  

7:54 a.m. — Police went to a home in Bedford after an unmarried couple they are familiar with argued when their dog urinated in the bed. The man said he wanted the woman out of the house “due to her disagreeable nature.” She said she wasn’t leaving her legal residence. Police advised him to start the eviction process if they couldn’t work it out.  

6:23 p.m. — A child who choked on a piece of pasta appeared fine after police and medics arrived at the Katonah home. Medics evaluated the child and pronounced the airway clear.

Monday, April 13

9:13 p.m. — A South Salem woman told police she attended a town meeting on Main Street at the Town Hall and said the seat next to her was taken by a woman she’s had four prior adversarial encounters with in the past. 

The complainant said the person “made noises” at her and at one point said something bad enough to be redacted from the report. The reporting party said she was afraid of the woman and waited for her to leave the hall first. 

Police referred to the YouTube video of the meeting to observe the encounter and interviewed another party who was seated directly behind the reporting party who corroborated the reporting party’s account. The reporting party requested an order of protection and also sent an email to the Town Board. 

Tuesday, April 14

7:20 a.m. — Police patrolling Route 35, Cross River, pulled over a commercial vehicle traveling in the eastbound lane. The driver and passenger, both dressed in orange shirts, were not wearing seatbelts, and the driver’s license was suspended. The vehicle was impounded and towed. 

10:20 p.m. — Police went to an address in Cross River after being alerted the resident expressed interest in self-harm; no one answered the door. Soon after they learned the female in question was being evaluated at Northern Westchester Hospital. 

Wednesday, April 15

1:30 p.m. — The owner of a liquor store in South Salem reported he’s being harassed by a man in a white Volkswagen Golf who told the responding officer he was  sitting in his car eating lunch. 

7:25 p.m. — A caller on South Shore Drive, South Salem, reported a woman was on their property which had been condemned. Police spoke with the woman who declared she had permission; she was told, no, she didn’t, and she must close the doors and leave immediately. Police spoke with a Twin Lakes Drive resident who may or may not have given the trespasser permission; they were reminded the property is condemned and no one is allowed to be there. 

8:00 p.m. — A South Salem man told police he was outside watering his flowers when a blue Ford F-150 truck drove by. The driver yelled at him, stopped their truck and got out yelling, “Get a real job!” before driving off. A report was made for documentation. Police observed tire tracks in the reporting party’s garden. No flowers were harmed. 

Thursday, April 16

7:55 a.m. — Police pursued a speeding motorcycle going 58 mph in a 30-mph zone in the vicinity of the Goldens Bridge firehouse, ending when the motorcyclist first ran a stop sign and then fled west on Todd Road before crashing the bike. 

Minor damage was sustained to his hands and one knee. The driver refused medical attention. The bike was towed and impounded. The operator was taken to headquarters where he received several tickets before being given a courtesy ride to the Goldens Bridge train station to be reunited with his property. 

9:30 a.m. — Police returned to the condemned house on South Shore Drive for a report someone was on the property. They saw a generator with a cord running into the interior of the house but were unable to determine if anyone was inside. 

6:10 p.m. — A Connecticut driver was extricated from their vehicle after a two car, head-on collision on Route 35 near Waccabuc River Lane. Police said one car was passing the other in a no passing zone. 

South Salem firefighters and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps removed the doors and roof of one vehicle to extricate the operator. One driver was transported by Vista ambulance to Norwalk Hospital for minor hand injuries. 

The second driver was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for severe leg pain. Both cars were towed. 

Friday, April 17

1:32 p.m. — Police went to a home in the vicinity of Silvermine Drive, South Salem, on a report of a loose dog. A woman who said she has five dogs, all registered with the town, said she was fixing a fence and that the husky had escaped when she was moving the animals from their pen to her home. 

6:50 p.m. — A Quincy Court resident reported their neighbor keeps parking on their property. They also complained about kids on the street they find annoying. Police spoke to all involved parties. 

Saturday, April 18

5:35 p.m. — Police went to Kenfield Road, South Salem, for a report of an intoxicated woman. She was located in a driveway on East Street, visibly intoxicated with an abrasion at her elbow. She told police she’d just been at a memorial service and fell down. 

She asked if she could get a ride to the restaurant One Twenty Three to get her car and was refused. Another person who was at the memorial with her said he would get her safely home. 

Sunday, April 19

5:15 p.m. — A dead dog was reported on the shoreline of Lake Truesdale; police on arrival saw it was an opossum, not a dog.

Birthday bash complaint 

On Saturday, April 18, an Upper Shad Road resident learned his neighbor called the police just before 10 p.m. to complain about loud music. The man told police he was throwing a 50th birthday party. He said he was sorry and would turn down the volume. 

Tuesday, April 14

8:15 a.m. — A man was taken to Norwalk Hospital by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided.

12:05 p.m. — A woman was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.

6:45 p.m. — Police went to a home on South Bedford Road for a report of a gas-powered pressure washer being used after 6 p.m. in violation of local ordinance. The worker apologized and left.  

Wednesday, April 15

3:42 a.m. — A man was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.

6:02 a.m. — A woman was taken by ambulance to Stamford Hospital. No further information was provided. 

8:14 a.m. — A driver on Lower Trinity Pass Road was given a summons for failure to obey a traffic device.  

3:43 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was given a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

5:40 p.m. — A Seminole, Fla., woman was arrested and issued two tickets on Westchester Avenue after police initiated a traffic stop for her failure to stop at a stop sign; it was also noted her registration was suspended. The woman is originally from Stamford, Conn., and was back in the area visiting. She is to appear in court May 18. 

Thursday, April 16

1:28 a.m. — Police went to Cedar Hill Road after a suspicious person was reported trespassing. Police saw no one or any signs of criminal behavior. 

3:05 p.m. — A woman was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital.  No further information was provided.

Friday, April 17

8:45 a.m. — Seven traffic summonses were issued to a driver on Long Ridge Road for loose cargo without a cover, tinted windshield, and other infractions. 

6:00 p.m. — Three motor carriers were given summonses on Westchester Avenue for violation of safety rules.  

8:23 p.m. — A disabled vehicle was reported on Cross River Road. Police could not locate the vehicle. 

Saturday, April 18

7:22 a.m. — A caller on Indian Hill Road reported a dog in the roadway. The dog was wearing identity tags and the police called the number and the dog’s owner came to retrieve it.  

12:34 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was given a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign. 

Sunday, April 19

8:30 p.m. — No violations were observed during a traffic enforcement on Westchester Avenue.
