A 22-year-old Mount Kisco man known by police for having multiple active warrants for quality-of-life offenses was arrested twice last week in the village within 24 hours on burglary-related charges.

Candelario Cervantes-Seferino, a Britton Lane resident, was arrested the second time during the afternoon of June 4 by Westchester County police officers in an attempted burglary shortly after midnight earlier that same day at 7 North Moger Ave. Police said security surveillance video in the area revealed that the suspect used a large stone in an attempt to shatter a storefront door and enter the premises.

Nothing was stolen in the attempt, but there was about $5,000 in damage to the door frame and glass, police said.

Cervantes-Seferino’s arrest came after he was first taken into custody at about 4 p.m. on June 3 on accusations he broke into a restaurant on May 31 in Kirby Plaza. He was accused of stealing $500 in cash and causing $1,000 in damage to the front entrance, authorities said.

Police said Cervantes-Seferino was known to have warrants. Officers took him into custody on Sarles Avenue while on routine patrol.

While being detained following the June 3 arrest, police confirmed there were eight active warrants against Cervantes-Seferino for several different types of offenses — disorderly conduct, public urination, public consumption of alcoholic beverages, littering and trespass. He was also charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and petty larceny.

Cervantes-Seferino was arraigned on those charges and released on his own recognizance by Judge Anthony Markus at 7:40 p.m. June 3.

The next day, detectives identified Cervantes-Seferino as the suspect in the North Moger Avenue burglary. Officers canvassed locations where they had previous contact with him, including in the vicinity of Main Street and Lexington Avenue. He was found sleeping behind a gas station in the 600 block of East Main Street and arrested at 2:44 p.m., police said.

Cervantes-Seferino was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and second-degree criminal mischief in connection with the break-in attempt on North Moger Avenue.

After being booked at the Green Street precinct, Cervantes-Seferino was arraigned in village court. Bail was set at $3,500 by Markus, police said. Cervantes-Seferino was then sent to Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.

Police did not reveal the names of the businesses that were broken into.
