Monday, May 5
8:36 a.m. — Harassment was reported at a government office in South Salem. No further information was provided.?
10:33 a.m. — Police went to a nail salon on Route 35 for a possible burglary after it was noticed that a door frame in a shared common area appeared broken. It was learned that South Salem firefighters used it earlier to gain entry to the building after a fire alarm was activated. There were no problems and the salon owner was notified.
2:15 p.m. — A person, name and address unknown, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by ambulance after reporting arm and shoulder pain following a two-car collision on Route 35 in Cross River in the vicinity of Bisbee Lane. The other driver fled the scene but was stopped by Somers Police and New York State Police while attempting to get on Interstate 684. That driver was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and his car was impounded and towed. The operator told police he “didn’t think it was a big deal” which is why he continued driving to his hotel. He was arraigned by a judge and is scheduled to return to court June 9. Police also reported that the man doesn’t have a valid driver’s license.
2:50 p.m. — A man who owns a tow business in Stamford, Conn., came to headquarters to report an issue with a used tow vehicle he purchased a few months ago that he took to a friend’s repair shop in the Bronx. When he went to get the truck, he was told someone else had already picked it up. The truck, which has a tracking device on it, was located at a service station in Cross River. The reporting party went to that location and saw what he believed was his vehicle. Lewisboro Police went to the service station where they were told by a mechanic on-site that someone brought the truck in a few months ago to have the alternator changed but never came back for it. The matter is currently in the hands of New York State Police.
4:20 p.m. — Police went to a mental health facility in Cross River after an outpatient declared to staff he planned to stab his mother, a Peekskill resident. An officer spoke to the individual who said he was just angry. He agreed to be transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. His mother was advised and said she is fearful of him. Peekskill Police were advised and the mother said she was going to the hospital to find out when he would be discharged.
Tuesday, May 6
9:40 a.m. — Police went to Route 35 in Katonah for an assault reported during a motor vehicle accident and controlled the scene until the arrival of Bedford Police. No further information was provided.
12:35 p.m. — A domestic incident was reported at a home on Old Oscaleta Road, South Salem. Police spoke with a female who said she’d argued with her mother; one of them called 911. The mother drove off before police arrived to go to a grocery store in Ridgefield, Conn. She was located in South Salem on her way home. A New York state domestic incident was completed. No further information was provided.
Wednesday, May 7
9:30 p.m. — Foul language was used by a patron at police headquarters, directed at another person who is no longer in a relationship with them. The insulted person said they did not wish to press charges but wanted a report made of the incident.
Thursday, May 8
10:42 a.m. — Police went to Four Winds Hospital, Cross River, after a parent complained they were there to pick up their daughter but were informed she wasn’t being released. Discharge papers were signed while police watched and the daughter was discharged.
3:45 p.m. — Five people were reported trespassing at an address on Deer Track Lane, Goldens Bridge. The resident, who told police he was informed of the trespass by a neighbor, got home shortly after police arrived. He asked that his house be searched. Police say they have been to this address before with similar requests and there have been no issues and no trespassers.
Friday, May 9
10:00 a.m. — A South Salem couple came to headquarters to report an oil spill on their property which is a rental. They said they didn’t know if the spill originated from their property or the neighbor who is also their landlord. They said they don’t have much of a relationship with him. They also mentioned a man who sporadically shows up at their door demanding rent payment. Social services have also shown up at their door and left paperwork. Police suggested this is a matter for civil court and spoke with the landlord who said the couple haven’t paid rent in 14 months and he is starting the eviction process. He said he authorized his daughter’s boyfriend to try to collect rent. Police reminded him this is a civil matter.
Saturday, May 10
12:58 p.m. — A German shepherd wearing no collar or tags was found on Todd Road, Goldens Bridge. A South Salem veterinary practice who temporarily took custody of the dog said they were familiar with it despite it not being a patient. The dog has been reported loose in the past in the vicinity of Duffy’s Bridge Road and Route 22. Police went to what they believe is the dog’s home and left a note on the garage door to let the owner know where the dog was.
2:20 p.m. — A caller in South Salem reported two rabid raccoons on the property. Police arrived and saw raccoons hiding behind garbage cans. They appeared healthy and very young. The caller was informed the kits were not rabid.
Sunday, May 11
6:40 p.m. — Police responded to an ongoing dispute between some neighbors. One person was warned not to trespass on the other person’s property.
8:30 p.m. — An activated fire alarm brought police and South Salem firefighters to a home in Waccabuc. There was no fire. Police say the alarm was set off by cooking.
