Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Bedford Police Report March 3-9

Having a bad trip 

Police responded Saturday, March 8, at 3:13 a.m., to a report of people running in the roadway on Middle Patent Road, Bedford. They encountered a male, age and address not reported, in the roadway. He said he’d been at a friend's house and they were tripping on mushrooms. He provided a location in Bedford where he’d been with three friends. An officer called an ambulance for him as he said he was having a bad trip and sent a second ambulance to the address provided to check on the friends. They all said they were fine but a medic checking one person was experiencing elevated blood pressure. That person was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS. The male in the roadway was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters. 

Monday, March 3

3:50 p.m. — Callers on Maple Avenue, Katonah, reported a man harassing joggers. Police looked for him after one jogger reported the man was heading in the direction of Route 35, but didn’t find him.  

4:03 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 55, was taken from a location on Croton Lake Road after complaining of abdominal pain from falling off a horse. She was in the care of Westchester EMS on police arrival and was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  


Tuesday, March 4

4:43 p.m. — A saddled but riderless horse was reported running loose in the roadway on Old Post Road, Bedford. Police met with the caller who said the horse took off out of a driveway; a second officer located a man on his horse who said he was looking for the riderless horse when his wife called and said it returned to the barn. 

6:27 p.m. — A hiker who reported himself lost and hiking alone in the Butler Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road, Bedford Hills, was assisted by officers on foot and an officer riding a UTV as well as county police out of Mount Kisco. The hiker was found by Bedford Police and returned to his parked car. 


Wednesday, March 5

6:08 a.m. — Police responding to a report of an injured fox on Fox Lane, Bedford, instead saw a dead coyote in the vicinity of Interstate 684. The Department of Transportation was notified to remove it.   

2:00 p.m. — A man reported his wallet was taken from his unlocked vehicle while working at a property on Chestnut Ridge Road, Bedford Hills. His co-worker noticed an unknown man milling around the area who threw something into the woods. The co-worker entered the woods and found the wallet which appeared to be intact. The co-worker was unable to give a good description of the person they saw. Nothing was reported missing from the wallet. A report was made for documentation.  


Thursday, March 6

1:47 a.m. — A man was reported yelling at drivers on Harris Road, Bedford Hills. His behavior was reported as erratic. Police found a calm and quiet person walking on the sidewalk. He asked for directions to the train station, directions were given, and the man continued on his way.  

4:27 p.m. — An employee at a body shop on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, reported an ongoing issue with a customer known for creating a scene over his repair bill. The employee said the man was coming in to collect his vehicle and thought it would be helpful to have a police officer present. The customer arrived, the bill was settled without argument, and the man drove away in his car.  

10:26 p.m.  — A woman hanging around the Kohl's parking lot on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, arousing suspicion told police she was finishing up a phone call and would be leaving shortly. 


Friday, March 7

8:20 a.m. — A resident of Katonah, male, 91, was reported deceased by a medic already on scene when police arrived. His wife said she saw him the night before when he went to bed and found him deceased in the morning. The medical examiner responded and his primary physician was called. His wife called a funeral home and police stood by until his body was removed. 

11:27 p.m. — A woman told police she ran out of gas when they saw her car stopped in Katonah in the vicinity of Woods Bridge Road. She said a tow she called couldn’t put gas in her car and she had agreed to it being towed. 


Saturday, March 8

1:19 p.m. — A lawn on fire on Cottage Terrace, Bedford Hills, was being extinguished by Bedford Hills firefighters when police arrived. Firefighters said the fire started from embers blowing from a barbecue grill. 


Sunday, March 9

8:36 a.m. — Police assisted a resident of Rome Avenue, Bedford Hills, whose oxygen tank malfunctioned. No medical assistance was required.  

1:14 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills reported identity theft that occurred when an unknown party secured a small business loan using his information in 2021. The reporting party only recently became aware of the fraud. He learned from the Small Business Administration his pension was imperiled if he didn’t repay the loan. He was advised to obtain a police report to prove he was a victim and not responsible. The necessary paperwork was provided.  

11:09 p.m. — A resident of Mahopac, male, 65, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a collision that occurred on Cross River Road had shut down portions of Route 35. A police officer had positioned his car on the roadway at an angle to create a traffic barrier; the Mahopac man never saw the police car and crashed into it. The officer, seeing it approaching, leaped from his vehicle before the crash. The Mahopac man told police he never saw the police car. He was observed intoxicated but denied drinking. He was arrested, brought to headquarters for processing and issued a slew of tickets, including a summons to appear in court April 2.
