ATM heist from Katonah American Legion Post
On Sunday, May 25, at 10:23 a.m., police went to Katonah American Legion Post 1575 on Jay Street, Katonah, after burglary and theft were reported. Someone broke into the building around 5 a.m. that morning and took the ATM machine, which was put into a truck and driven away. The break-in and the theft were observed in the late morning when the post commander and a caretaker arrived to open the building. The incident is under investigation.
Warrant served in electric toothbrush theft
On Wednesday, May 21, at 3:11 p.m., a resident of Yonkers, male, 36, wanted on an outstanding warrant, was transported from the jail where he is presently incarcerated for an unrelated charge to Bedford police headquarters to be charged with petty larceny. Police say he stole an electric toothbrush from the CVS pharmacy on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, in August. After being processed in Bedford, he was returned to the Department of Corrections Jail.
Monday, May 19
5:26 p.m. — A resident of Wood Road, Bedford Hills, contacted police about what she thought was an odd occurrence at her home; she showed an officer white droppings on chairs in front of her residence and was unsure of their origin. The officer said they were pigeon droppings from birds nesting at her home and there was nothing to worry about.
7:44 p.m. — A person reported losing their phone at the Bedford Hills Memorial Park basketball court after they placed it in a sweatshirt pocket and left it on a bench while they played. When they returned to their sweatshirt, the phone was missing. Several people in the area were asked if they’d seen the phone; no one had. The reporting party had not installed the locator app. A report was made for documentation.
Tuesday, May 20
10:47 a.m. — A concerned party requested a welfare check on a homeless man known to be living in his disabled vehicle in the parking lot on Woods Bridge Road, Katonah. Police met with the man and contacted the Westchester County Crisis Team who are working with the man to correct his car issue and possibly his return to his family to end his homeless situation.
5:10 p.m. — A resident of Brewster, male, 36, who fell off a roof he was working on in Bedford Hills was taken to Westchester Medical Center via Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Police said he was bleeding from his left arm.
Wednesday, May 21
11:26 a.m. — A resident of Katonah, female, 86, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for difficulty breathing. Medics on scene took over primary care until she was transported.
8:05 p.m. — A caller on Mclain Street, Bedford Hills, reported an 18-wheeler flatbed tow cab parked in a neighbor’s driveway. The owner was directed to code enforcement for follow up.
Thursday, May 22
3:32 p.m. — An odor of gas was reported on Bedford Road, Katonah, in the vicinity of a preschool. Katonah firefighters and Con Ed arrived on scene and determined there was a leak which would be corrected. No further information was provided.
12:43 p.m. — A good Samaritan turned in a handbag they found on the stairs in Bedford Hills near Lot 4 by Depot Plaza. Police found the owner’s driver’s license inside and that person was contacted and an arrangement was made to drop her bag off at her residence. She reported some items were missing but said she might have left them in an Uber. She was advised to contact the Uber service.
7:31 p.m. — Bedford firefighters went to a home on Littletown Lane, Bedford, after a smoke alarm was activated. The homeowner said it was set off by burnt food and there was no fire.
Friday, May 23
3:02 p.m. — A battery and a spare tire were reportedly taken from a car parked at a residence on Davids Hill Road, Bedford Hills. The homeowner said the car was parked on the property for eight months; they believe the items were taken recently as the car is often checked. A report was made for documentation.
6:20 p.m. — Three summonses were issued to the operator of an ATV reported speeding on West Patent Road, Bedford Hills.
Saturday May 24
9:15 a.m. — A caller reported their car missing from the Jay Street commuter lot in Katonah; they said they’d parked the car there while staying in New York City. Police said the car wasn’t missing but after being left there for three days was considered abandoned and it was towed to impound. The owner was given information on how to retrieve their car.
4:48 p.m. — A caller on Bisbee Lane, Bedford Hills, reported two men in a pickup truck going door-to-door attempting to sell their services for home improvements. Police located the vehicle on Bedford Center Road and a traffic stop was conducted. The operator was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license. The passenger was allowed to drive the car away from the area after police advised them to leave because they have no permit to solicit.
Sunday, May 25
12:27 p.m.— A person taking a walk in the Butler Sanctuary in Bedford Hills returned to find their car window smashed and their handbag and all its contents stolen. Police are investigating.
