Theodore “Ted” Holt Chase, a former deputy supervisor of the town of Lewisboro and longtime Goldens Bridge resident, died June 17 at the age of 93.

Born in Springfield, Mass., Chase was a graduate of Yale University and an Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He moved to Goldens Bridge with his wife, Barbara, in 1969, where they raised their three children and became deeply involved in the community.

His legacy in Lewisboro is one of tireless public service. He served four terms on the town board, including as deputy supervisor, and was instrumental in guiding planning and development efforts. He also chaired the local United Way campaign, coached youth sports, led fundraising efforts for the original track at John Jay High School, and served as fire commissioner for the Goldens Bridge Fire Department. In 1996, he was named Lewisboro’s Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.

After retiring from IBM, he and his wife relocated to Maryland, where he continued his civic work.

He is survived by Barbara “Bobbie” Chase, his wife of 63 years; his children, Eliza Chase Morton, Theodore Van Vleck Chase, and Susannah Chase Sutley; his brother, Robert Chase; six grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown in Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington College, at washcoll.edu/give in honor of Ted Chase to support an annual dinner for business students. Please note “Chase Dinner” with your gift.
