Evelyn (Gallagher) FitzGerald, 91

Evelyn (Gallagher) FitzGerald, 91, died Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Brighton Gardens, Stamford CT. She was born in 1934 in Eastchester, NY where she grew up the youngest of six children. She graduated from Eastchester High School, where she was a standout athlete and was voted "Most Carefree." After moving to Katonah, NY, to raise her family, she received a Bachelor of Science from Mercy College and a Master of Psychology from Long Island University, which led to a very successful career as a school psychologist and Guidance Counselor in the New York City public school system, where she touched and positively affected many young lives.

Evelyn loved the beach, poetry, literature, museums, movies, theatre, and especially music. As a young girl she loved live music and had the opportunity to attend many live concerts including her favorite duet Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park. She had an abundance of faithful friends throughout her lifetime, from her close-knit neighborhood and tennis group in Katonah, to her chair yoga and book swap groups in Bedford Hills. Evelyn was proud of her Irish heritage and loved her travels to Ireland to visit the birthplace of her parents in County Mayo.

She is survived by three children, Denise Cirillo (Joe Cirillo) of Goldens Bridge, NY, Gail Marshall of Mt. Kisco, NY, and Jennifer FitzGerald (Jeffrey Gore) of South Carolina, her grandchildren, Andrew Marshall and Sarah Bennett, Clare and Joseph Cirillo and three great grandchildren, Theo, Wilma and Luna. She is predeceased by her son Terrence and five siblings.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude for the kind, loving support that she received from her caregivers in Bedford Hills and the many dedicated caregivers at Brighton Gardens.     

SERVICES: There are no visiting hours. A private memorial service for Evelyn will be held in the fall.
