David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community.

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

Eat. Shop. Explore Bedford

IN BRIEF

Sixty-plus local artists, three hamlets to unite in Bedford Art Crawl

The Town of Bedford will feature a day of art, shopping, live music and festivities at its inaugural Art Crawl Saturday, Oct.19. The first-of-its kind event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the town’s three hamlets of  Katonah, Bedford Village and Bedford Hills.

More than 60 local artisans working in an array of art forms will display their work for sale. Available items include painting, pottery, photography, vintage finds, leather goods, stationery and jewelry. Arts Westchester will also provide their Mobile Art truck, providing art classes for adults.

Each hamlet will feature different artisans and live music, and local shops will be open for business, dining and drinks. For a full list of participants and festivities in each hamlet, visit bedfordartcrawl.com.

Visitors from outside the area are invited to take Metro-North trains to Katonah or Bedford Hills stations, where free transportation will be provided to the Art Crawl.

“Inspired by Katonah’s Fall Art Walk, where we typically attract hundreds of visitors, I am thrilled that Bedford is expanding the program to showcase regional talent. Inviting artisans from around the region has contributed to the success of the Katonah Art Walk and we are thrilled to expand this to a townwide event,” said Casey Carter, head of the Katonah Chamber of Commerce.

“Bedford is a magnet for creativity and talent,” commented Bedford Town Supervisor Ellen Calves. “With Caramoor, the Katonah Museum of Art and the Bedford Playhouse serving as cornerstones for the arts, our ability to now bring together local artists, exhibits and merchants is a perfect example of what makes Bedford unique and special.”

Laurie Hilliard, Bedford business promoter, added, “We can’t wait to welcome neighbors and visitors from around the region to spend the day exploring, shopping, dining and enjoying the vibrancy of Bedford’s historic hamlets.”

The Bedford Art Crawl is a collaboration between the Town of Bedford, Destination 39.3, the Katonah Chamber of Commerce and the Bedford Village Business Association. The Recorder is the event media sponsor.
