Raymond J. Harting (Ray) died June 15 at the age of 82 with his wife Carolyn at his side.
He was born Feb. 15, 1943, to George and Ellen Harting. His childhood was spent in Brooklyn, being educated in Catholic schools. During his youth, he served as an altar boy, part of his commitment as a lifelong Roman Catholic. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford before moving to Brewster.
After attending college at night and graduating in 1965 with a degree in accounting, he went to work for Peat Marwick Mitchell as an auditor. In the early 1970s, he opened up his own firm, eventually sharing an office with his wife, Carolyn, an attorney, in Bedford Village.
Harting and his wife had two children. He coached the kids in a number of sports during their adolescence and was a lifelong baseball fan and had a passion for golf. He was an Army veteran, having served more than six years as a reservist after his active duty ended.
Harting is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn; his son, Dennis, and daughter, Debbie Lindstrom (Michael), and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen (Smith) and his brother, George.
Memorial donations can be made to Brewster-Southeast EMS or Bedford Lions Club.
