David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community. 

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.


Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

Pound Ridge Police Report Sept. 24-29

Chipmunk trapped in bathroom 

On Sunday, Sept. 28, at 10:04 a.m., a resident of Pine Brook Road reported they had a chipmunk locked in a bathroom and needed assistance. Police arrived and the rodent was safely released. 

 

Tuesday, Sept. 24 

9:05 a.m. — A parking complaint on South Bedford Road was made by a caller reporting a vehicle blocking the roadway. On arrival, police saw traffic was easily navigating the vehicle in question but placed hazard cones in the area as a precaution. 

9:20 a.m. — Two traffic summonses were issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue: one for failure to stop at a stop sign, the second for operating an unregistered vehicle on the highway. 

12:45 p.m. — A caller complained about a parking situation on Upper Shad Road. Police said the car in question was gone before they arrived. 

2:07 p.m. — A female, age unknown, was taken from her residence to Northern Westchester Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Corps for an unknown condition. 


Wednesday, Sept. 25 

9:40 a.m. — A traffic summons was issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue for failure to obey a traffic device. 

11:25 a.m. — A caller on Westchester Avenue complaining about someone using a gas leaf blower resulted in police speaking with a landscaper who was advised of the ban. 


Thursday, Sept. 26 

11:10 a.m. — A resident of Old Stone Hill Road was cited for a leaf blower violation of local ordinance. 

1:15 p.m. — A parking complaint was reported on Lons Lane. Police on arrival said there was no problem and the operator of a truck agreed to move his truck. 


Friday, Sept. 27 

8:30 a.m. — A male, age and condition unknown, was taken by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stamford Hospital from his residence. 

2:05 p.m. — A caller on Lower Shad Road reported a neighbor’s landscaper was violating a local ordinance regarding use of gas powered leaf blowers. The landscaper was given a letter explaining the ban. No summonses were issued at this time as the landscaper was unaware of the ordinance.

3:25 p.m. — A caller reported a local ordinance violation for use of gas leaf blowers being used at a residence on Old Stone Hill Road. Police arrived and spoke to the homeowner. No violations were witnessed. 

10:30 p.m. — A pickup truck on fire was reported by a caller on High Ridge Road. Pound Ridge firefighters arrived quickly to extinguish the fire. Police say the car was able to be driven from the scene. 


Saturday, Sept. 28 

9:45 a.m. — A caller reported Brook Farm Road was blocked; police saw a tree blocking the roadway and the highway department was notified. 

10:50 a.m. — Mental health incidents were reported on Kinnicutt Road. No further information was available. 

1:25 p.m. — An animal bite was reported on Lower Shad Road. No further information was available. 

 5:30 p.m. — A second mental health incident occurred on Kinnicutt Road. No further information was available. 

10:37 p.m. — A driver was issued a summons on Westchester Avenue after an officer on patrol observed them doing 46 mph in a marked 30-mph zone. 


Sunday, Sept. 29

6:55 p.m. — A dog reported running loose on Kinnicutt Road was gone on police arrival. 

9:11 p.m. — A woman was transported from her residence by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stamford Hospital for an unknown condition.
