David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community. 

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.


Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

Pound Ridge Police Report Sept. 17-21

Speeders, tinted windows and cellphones lead to citations

Multiple summons were issued for traffic violations observed by an officer on Westchester Avenue between 8:30 a.m and 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 19. Summonses were issued to three separate drivers for a nontransparent windshield, and driving while using a cellphone. 


Tuesday, Sept. 17

9:14 a.m. —  A male, age unknown, was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided. 

10:55 a.m. — A summons was issued at an address on Kinnicutt Road for violating a local ordinance regarding the use of gas leaf blowers. 


Wednesday, Sept. 18

7:30 a.m. — A summons was issued to a driver traveling on Salem Road during a traffic detail for speeding. The operator was going 54 mph in a 40-mph zone. 

11:38 a.m. — A traffic summons was issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue for using a cellphone while operating a moving vehicle. 


Thursday, Sept. 19

Multiple summons were issued for traffic violations observed by an officer on Westchester Avenue between 8:30 a.m and 12:20 p.m. Summonses were issued to three separate drivers for a nontransparent windshield, and driving while using a cellphone. 

1:05 p.m. — A boy, age unknown, was transported from their home in Pound Ridge to Westchester Medical Center Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  

4:20 p.m. — A traffic summons was issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue while using a cellphone. 

4:30 p.m. — A citizen walked into police headquarters with a dog they found at large. Police located the owner of the dog. 

4:50 p.m. — A caller reported a dog locked inside a car parked on Westchester Avenue. When police arrived, the car (and dog) were gone.  

5:15 p.m. — A summons for speeding was issued to a driver traveling on Salem Road. Police say the operator was doing 61 mph in a 40-mph zone. 

8:20 p.m. — A two-car collision was reported on Pine Brook Road. Police say no one was injured and neither car required a tow.  


Friday, Sept. 20

12:47 p.m.—  A caller on Westchester Avenue reported a parking complaint involving another vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was located and agreed to move their car. 

6:50 p.m. — A summons was issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue for unapproved headlights.  

7:30 p.m. — A summons for speeding was issued to a driver on Westchester Avenue. Police said the operator was doing 51 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

8:10 p.m. — A summons was issued to a driver traveling on Westchester Avenue for failure to obey a traffic device. 


Saturday, Sept. 21

12:55 a.m. — A caller on Apple Tree Lane reported a tree blocking the roadway and a problem with their utility. The highway department was notified about the tree and the utility company notified. 

12:30 p.m. — Another caller or possibly the same caller reported the tree was still blocking the road on Apple Tree Lane. The highway department was contacted and advised of the ongoing complaint. 

12:46 p.m. — A suspicious person was reported on Dann Farm Road. The caller thought it was possibly a solicitor leaving political flyers. Police looked for the individual with negative results.  

5:39 p.m. — A resident of Pound Ridge, female, age unknown, called for medical assistance. When Westchester EMS arrived she declined assistance. 

9:42 p.m. — A caller on Barnegat Road reported their dog was lost. Police took down the information but then the caller called back to say their dog had been found.
