POUND RIDGE

WWII device causes bomb scare 

On Wednesday, March 18, at 10:47 a.m., police were dispatched to an unoccupied home undergoing renovation on West Lane after a suspicious metal object was reported inside the house that resembled an explosive device. The Westchester County Police Hazardous Device Unit also responded. The roadway was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until emergency personnel concluded the object was a WWII era device and not a danger or threat to anyone at the residence. Police called it “an isolated incident.”


Wires down around town

Tuesday, March 17

1:20 a.m. — Traffic was reopened on Upper Shad after a tree was reported blocking the roadway. The limb was small enough an officer could move it. 

1:52 a.m. — A caller on Old Church Lane reported “a suspicious glow” in the sky and thought it might be an exploded transformer. Police saw no glow but said power was out in the area due to rain and high winds. 

2:06 a.m. — Police set out caution tape on Trinity Pass Road after downed trees blocked the road and wires were down. The utility was notified and said they would respond. 

4:45 a.m. — A Bender Way caller reported a partially blocked road due to a downed tree. The highway department was notified. 

7:05 a.m. — The utility was notified of wires down on Shad Road West due to fallen tree limbs.  

9:38 a.m. — Wires were reported down on Hack Green Road. The utility was notified.  

9:40 a.m. — Wires were reported down on Clearwater Lane. 

9:41 a.m. — Wires were reported down on Westchester Avenue.  

10:53 a.m. — A busted utility pole and wires down were reported on Donbrook Road.  

1:50 a.m. — After police helped a High Ridge Road resident up off the floor, he said he wanted no further assistance. 

Wednesday, March 18

7:50 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was pulled over and ticketed for doing 54 mph in a 30-mph zone. They were also given summonses for having alcohol in the car and evidence of cannabis.

4:18 p.m — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for their heavily tinted windshield.  

Thursday, March 19

4:21 a.m. — A woman refused medical attention after requesting it. No further information was provided.

7:55 a.m. — A resident came to headquarters to report a car pulled into their driveway and took a picture of the house. Police advised they get their own cameras to monitor suspicious activity at the residence. 

10:53 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was issued a summons for not having insurance.  

4:09 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for illegal signalling. 10:30 p.m. — A driver doing 48 mph in a 30-mph zone was given a ticket on Westchester Avenue.  

Friday, March 20

3:32 p.m. — A tractor trailer making a delivery was assisted with controlling traffic on Westchester Avenue after a caller complained it was blocking the roadway.  

Saturday, March 21

3:15 a.m. — No violations were observed during a traffic detail on Westchester Avenue.  

10:48 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

11:30 a.m. — The involved utility responded to a report of wires down on White Birch Road. They also removed a damaged pole.  

6:45 p.m. — A driver going 51 mph in a 30 mph zone was ticketed on Westchester Avenue. 

Sunday, March 22

12:20 a.m. — Someone reported driving erratically on Westchester Avenue was gone on police arrival.  

8:00 a.m. — A water break reported on Westchester Avenue resulted in a flooded basement. A message was left for the building owner.  

11:05 a.m. — Three summonses were issued to drivers on Salem Road: two were for no insurance; the third for driving 50 mph in a marked 30-mph zone.

12:17 p.m. — A traffic detail on Westchester Avenue resulted in one person receiving a summons for their invalid insurance card.  

10:44 p.m. — A woman was transported to Stamford Hospital by Stamford EMS. No further information was provided. 

Monday, March 23

7:20 a.m. — A car and a deer collided on Westchester Avenue. No injuries were reported and no tow. Police could not find the deer. 


BEDFORD

Strewn fast food wrappers anger resident 

On Thursday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m., a caller on Oak Road, Katonah, reported Burger King wrappers on their lawn. They blamed a crew working next door. Police said that due to the vegetation between the homes, they guessed the wrappers blew in from the road. No further action was taken and it is unknown who cleaned the wrappers up. 

Monday, March 16

11:29 a.m. — A caller in Bedford Hills reported four pillars in front of her house were intentionally knocked over by her neighbor, who she doesn’t get along with. She also accused the neighbor of scraping paint off the pillars. Police observed some chipping which they thought were due to prolonged exposure to the weather. The caller was advised to contact the police if they saw the neighbor on their property.  

Tuesday, March 17

1:59 a.m. — A caller on Cross River Road, Katonah, reported that a tree fell on two of their unoccupied cars. The tree belongs to a neighbor. Also observed by police were power lines across the roadway. Due to the size of the tree police were unable to get close enough to observe the extent of the damage. A report was made for the caller for insurance purposes. The power company was contacted and that part of the street cordoned off for safety concerns. 

9:46 a.m. — A caller reported logs in the roadway on Cross River Road, Katonah. Police on arrival saw tree branch debris which they removed to the side of the roadway. 

11:31 p.m. — A caller on High Street, Katonah, requested to speak with the dog control officer regarding an incident that happened a few days prior. The reporting party said a neighbor’s small dog nipped him on the thigh and calf while he was in his own driveway. The owner called to their dog which returned to its own home. The caller did not want the dog control officer to speak to the neighbor but wanted to document the event in case there was a recurrence.  

Wednesday, March 18

9:16 a.m. — A woman, 60, on Guard Hill Road, Bedford, told police she was playing with her dog with a toy when the dog became excited and accidentally bit her hand. Bedford Hills firefighters were already on scene treating her injury. She decided her husband would drive her to the hospital and she didn’t need an ambulance.  

11:15 a.m. — Police responded to a disabled vehicle that broke down at a stop sign on Katonah Avenue and Jay Street. On police arrival the operator said they were fine and able to restart the car.  

Thursday, March 19

7:01 p.m. — The owner of a commercial property on Bedford Road, Katonah, was advised they have been trespassed from their commercial neighbor’s property, which is for sale. Police said the trespassed party made an offer; the offer was declined. The rebuffed party took issue and began arguing with their neighbor who reported the argument to the police. That person said they wanted their neighbor trespassed and paperwork was completed. 

10:13 p.m. — Police were contacted by Northern Westchester Hospital regarding a patient mistakenly released from the hospital before a mental health evaluation could be completed. They requested an officer go to that person’s home and bring them back. Police went to the Bedford Hills residence and spoke with the patient who agreed to return to the hospital with them.  

Friday, March 20

9:09 a.m. — A man, 45, from Mount Kisco, told police he lost control of his Chevy van on black ice on Greenwich Road and hit a utility pole. The van bounced off the pole and went through a fence and some shrubs before hitting a large tree. The driver was taken by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital for chest pain. The van was towed.    

1:13 p.m. — A man, 62, from Bedford Hills was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for bleeding. No further information was provided.

4:45 p.m. — Two men were reported dumping tires on Harris Road, Katonah. Police spoke with the manager of an auto shop nearby who said no one was dumping tires but they were pushing weeds back into the tree line. The weeds were observed by police but no tires.  

Saturday, March 21

11:49 a.m. — Police went to a home in Bedford Hills where they spoke with a man, 42, who was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital due to his level of intoxication. His wife said he’d come home drunk, argued with her and went to bed. He woke up angry because he said the home was too noisy and he was still trying to sleep. His wife took the children and locked them and herself in a bedroom. He responded by banging on and damaging the door. A New York state domestic incident report was completed and child protective services notified.   

3:02 p.m. — A Bedford Hills resident reported fraud when four iPod Airs were delivered to her door she never purchased. She soon discovered a fraudulent T-Mobile account was made using her information after she went to their phone store in Mount Kisco to say she’d never ordered the devices. A UPS driver first attempted to deliver the package but was intercepted by a person the caller said was parked near her home for a length of time. That person told the delivery driver the package was for them but the driver refused to hand it over and returned later to deliver it to the resident. The defrauded party is not out any money. A report was made for documentation.

7:37 p.m. —  A caller reported open flames between houses near the Bedford Hills Elementary School at Babbitt and Buxton roads. Police and Bedford Hills firefighters responded and saw a resident burning wood in their backyard. They were advised to put out the fire as open burns are illegal.  

Sunday, March 22

12:14 p.m. — A woman, 42, from Bedford Village, requested police contact the Westchester County Mobile Crisis Team for her as she was experiencing anxiety following a change in medication. The team arrived and arranged to have her taken to a hospital in the Hudson Valley. Her husband was contacted to advise him.

5:18 p.m. — A man reported sleeping in his car in the vicinity of Cross River and Goldens Bridge roads, Katonah, told police he had a flat tire and was waiting for his tow. 


LEWISBORO

Man chokes on corned beef

On Wednesday, March 18, at 6:19 p.m., police and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to a home in Cross River after a man, 73, was reported by his wife as having fallen down stairs; she said he wasn’t breathing. Police performed CPR until medics arrived and attempted to intubate him only to discover a large piece of corned beef lodged in his throat which they removed. His color and breath immediately returned. His wife told officers she’d spoken to him earlier and he was making dinner. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital for further treatment. 

Monday, March 16

7:30 p.m. — While patrolling Route 36 near Spring Street, an officer saw a man defecating on the westbound shoulder of Route 35. He told police he was walking to the Catskills. As he did not appear to be in medical distress, he was advised not to defecate in the roadway again and continued on his journey. 

8:00 p.m. — Police went to a home on Grandview Road, South Salem, after a couple argued over a mortgage payment. Someone put their hands around another person’s neck, resulting in that person leaving the house to call the police and hide in their car. Police said no one was injured and all parties were referred to family court.  

Tuesday, March 17

8:45 a.m. — Lewisboro and Pound Ridge police assisted Westchester County Police with a lockdown drill at John Jay Middle School. 

9:25 a.m. — A woman was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps after falling in her home. She told police she got up to use the bathroom during the night and became dizzy and fell. She complained of hip pain prior to transport. 

2:45 p.m. — Police assisted staff at Four Winds Hospital, Cross River, after a patient was reported missing and had stolen her therapist’s phone. The patient, female, was located on the premises. In the presence of her therapist she told police she’d been “kidnapped by Jeffrey Epstein in 2017.” She returned the phone to the therapist and police left the premises. 

Wednesday, March 18

4:00 p.m. — A South Salem man told police he tripped and fell while retrieving mail from his mailbox, resulting in an injury to his eye. He was taken by EMS to Norwalk Hospital. 

Thursday, March 19

1:17 p.m. — A sick raccoon was reported at a residence on Perch Bay Road, Waccabuc. The caller said crows were swarming it. On arrival police saw a disoriented raccoon whose back legs appeared paralyzed. It was dispatched and the carcass double bagged and put in the reporting party’s outdoor trash. 

8:30 p.m. — A black Jeep Wrangler was reported stopped at the stop sign at East Street and Smith Ridge Road; the operator told police his front tires had locked and he was unable to turn the wheel. A tow was called. 

Friday, March 20

3:30 p.m. — A person walked into headquarters to report their lost license plate from their 2016 Toyota pickup. They said they saw it was missing but have no idea when or where.

6:65 p.m. — Pushing and shoving was reported during a domestic disagreement at a home in Cross River, bringing police to the door; police only were able to speak with the reporting party who was visibly upset. No further information was provided.

Saturday, March 21 

5:35 p.m. — Multiple police officers went to a home in Katonah after a man’s parents requested help as their son was in a mental health crisis and breaking furniture. Police restrained him with hand and ankle cuffs. His parents hoped he would calm down and not require transport but after some time passed and he did not calm down, he was brought by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital. His mother followed in her own car. The Westchester County Mobile Crisis Team was contacted to meet the family there. 

9:45 p.m. — A suspicious incident was reported on school grounds at a school in Cross River. CCTV footage pertinent to the incident was said to be provided later in the week. Police said the incident is under investigation. 

Sunday, March 22

3:48 p.m. — A car parked for 36 hours at the rear of the Oakridge Commons Shopping Center brought police who spoke with the operator of a white Nissan Rogue with no plates. He showed his driver’s license and said he had family issues and decided to leave home. It was explained he was on private property and would have to leave. His friend was arriving with a tow truck to remove his vehicle.

7:23 p.m. — Police went to a home in Cross River in response to a choking victim. Their airway was cleared and they were taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by unknown conveyance. 

8:30 p.m. — A person wearing a hoodie was reported as suspicious by a caller on Brundige Drive. Police checked the area but  were not able to find the person.


MOUNT KISCO

Monday, March 16

1:17 a.m. — Officers responded to Northern Westchester Hospital on a report of a disorderly patron. The condition was corrected.

5:23 p.m. — An officer on patrol on Main Street observed a man with an open can of beer and stopped to issue him a summons for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a violation. The man was found to have a warrant for his arrest issued on March 9 for failing to appear in court to answer a similar charge. He was taken into custody and booked at the Green Street precinct. He was held for arraignment, where he was released on his own recognizance pending a March 19 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.

Tuesday, March 17

10 a.m. — An officer responded to a South Bedford Road building on a report of a man in his 80s who passed out in the lobby. The Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded and took him to the hospital.

2:12 p.m. — Officers responded to Gregory Avenue after a parent called to say her son was throwing items around in the residence and was possibly intoxicated. The condition was corrected.

5:05 p.m. — The Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert of a vehicle traveling northbound on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville wanted in connection with a “menacing with a handgun” incident. Officers positioned themselves at Route 133 and Kisco Avenue to watch for the suspect vehicle and made a traffic stop just north of Kisco Avenue. Carmel Police verified that the driver was the wanted party in an investigation and he was detained. Carmel Police responded and took the man into custody on assault and menacing charges.

7:31 p.m. — An officer responded to Carpenter Avenue after a mom called to report that she was unable to reach her 12-year-old son and was concerned for his welfare. While efforts were underway to locate the youth, he returned home at 8:10 p.m. and said his phone had died. 

Wednesday, March 18

1:09 p.m. — Police received a report of a man harassing people outside Target on North Bedford Road. The condition was corrected.

11:51 p.m. — An officer responded to South Moger Avenue after a man called to complain that he was being denied entry to a residence. The man was advised that the residents did not want him there and he left the area.

Thursday, March 19

12:21 a.m. — Police received a report of a man lying on the ground on Lenox Place. A responding officer determined the man was highly intoxicated and EMS was requested. Westchester EMS took the man to the hospital.

6:05 a.m. — A disorderly patron was reported at a Main Street deli. The condition was corrected.

8:25 a.m. — An officer on patrol in the 600 block of Main Street observed a man on private property that is posted with “no trespassing” signs. The man was issued a summons for trespassing, a violation. He is due in village court on April 2.

11:37 a.m. — An officer was dispatched to the Green Street precinct to meet a woman who wanted to report that someone may have entered her Carpenter Avenue apartment while she was out. The woman said she found her front door ajar when she came home a short time earlier and she believed she closed it behind her when she left. No one was found in the apartment nor did it appear that anything was missing or vandalized. A request was made for the building superintendent to review video that captures the front door of the apartment and report if it appears anyone had entered other than the tenant.

12:41 p.m. — Report of a panhandler obstructing the entrance to a store in Kirby Plaza. The condition was corrected.

3:50 p.m. — Staff at Mount Kisco Elementary School reported that a child told them her mother hits her and she is afraid to go home. Child Protective Services was notified and responded. Westchester EMS also was requested to assess the child for any injuries. Officers and CPS personnel turned the child over to her father who does not live at the same residence as the mother. An investigation is continuing.

7:27 p.m. — Staff at Target on North Bedford Road reported that a man was in the bathroom for three hours and refusing to leave. The man left the store when police were called and was gone upon an officer’s arrival.
