BEDFORD

Man accused of grocery thefts 

On Tuesday, July 14, at 1:58 p.m., a Somers man, 62, was arrested after he turned himself in to Bedford police headquarters to be charged with two counts of petty larceny. Police said he stole approximately $67 in groceries from DeCicco & Sons in Bedford; store management recorded his theft on video and said he stole items on July 7 and July 14. He was released on his own recognizance and is due in court July 29. 

Aggressive driver arrest

On Thursday,  July 16, a Mount Kisco man, 51, was arrested after he turned himself in at police headquarters charged with criminal mischief. Police said earlier that day he was in traffic on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, in an area where two lanes merge into one when he became irate with a female driver who merged before him. At the red light near Hill Street he exited his vehicle and approached hers; he bashed her driver’s side mirror before getting back into his car and continuing into Mount Kisco. She got his license plate and reported it to the police who called and asked him to come to the station. He was released on his own recognizance and given a ticket to appear in court July 22. 

Monday, July 13

8:53 a.m. — An odor of smoke and possible fire reported at an address on Quarry Lane, Bedford, was determined to be unfounded.   

1:54 p.m. — Police took a report from a resident on Croton Lake Road, Katonah, who came to headquarters to report she’d been defrauded and scammed by what she thought was a scam recovery agency who also scammed her. Police say between the two scams she is out over six figures. A report was made at this time for documentation. 

5:13 p.m. — A caller on Grove Road, Bedford, reported a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road. Police spoke to the homeowner of a nearby residence who said the van belonged to housepainters working at her home. The van broke down and they were waiting for a tow.  

9:11 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Katonah for a domestic altercation that began over measuring cups. The couple in question are divorced but for the time being are sharing the house. The man said he would sleep in the basement and would be leaving soon on a trip. A New York state domestic incident report was completed. Police say the argument was verbal in nature only.  

Tuesday, July 14

5:57 p.m. — Police responded for a welfare check on a Katonah man after a friend became concerned when they hadn’t heard from him. The man said he’d been very busy with medical appointments but was fine and would contact his friend. 

10:11 p.m. — A man, 71, on Rome Avenue, Bedford Hills, reported needing assistance after falling in his home; instead he needed help with his mattress slipping off the bed. Police said he did not fall. He was assisted by police who fixed his mattress.  

Wednesday, July 15

10:12 a.m. — An officer responding to a parking complaint on Sarles Street regarding a tractor trailer unloading found nothing irregular and said traffic was not impeded. 

5:49 p.m. — A dead deer reported in the vicinity of Woods Bridge Road and Cherry Street, Katonah, was moved off the roadway. The Highway Department was notified for collection.  

Thursday, July 16

11:19 a.m. — Sheep were reported in the roadway in the vicinity of Chestnut Ridge Road and South Bedford Road, Mount Kisco. Police couldn’t find them.  

3:46 p.m. — A Katonah woman came to headquarters to report receiving a letter from a bank she had no business with that contained a credit card. That bank told her an account was fraudulently made in her name connected to a Georgia address. She is not out any money and the bank is aware of the fraud. 

5:45 p.m. — A black bear was reported in the vicinity of Northwind Kennels, Bedford. The area was checked but no bear was found.  

Friday, July 17

7:49 a.m. — A Bedford Hills man told police he made a video of his wife getting in his face and yelling. Nothing physical occurred. He reported the argument was over their parenting differences. He told police he would be taking an Uber to work. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.  

10:16 a.m. — A raccoon reported caught in a storm drain in Bedford Hills managed to extricate itself  before police arrived 

1:59 p.m. — A turtle was reported in the roadway in the vicinity of Cherry Street and Lily Pond Lane, Katonah. The turtle made it across the street and was gone before police arrived.  

Saturday, July 18

7:08 a.m. — Katonah firefighters and police went to a home in Katonah for a report of an electrical fire. The fuse box was shut off by fire personnel and the homeowner was advised to contact their electrician.  

11:16 a.m. — Police went to the Bedford Hills Memorial Park for a complaint of a dog biting another dog on the snout. Both dog owners said their pets were up to date on their vaccines. One dog was reportedly off leash when it grabbed the other dog’s snout. The dog control officer will be following up with both owners.   

Sunday, July 19

12:09 p.m. — Two cars collided in the vicinity of Cross River Road and Goldens Bridge Road, Katonah; one was traveling east on Route 35 and at the Route 22 intersection was struck by a car heading north. Police said the traffic safety devices were malfunctioning and flashing red and yellow. One driver was from Katonah, the other from Dobbs Ferry. There were no injuries; both vehicles were towed. No citations were given.    

6:36 p.m. — A small Maltese-type of dog was reported wandering on South Beechwood Road, Bedford Hills. A resident who found the dog brought it into their home. Police located the dog’s owner who was in the neighborhood searching for her pet. An officer brought the dog to the owner.

LEWISBORO

Monday, July 13

1:15 p.m. — A caller at the John Jay High School campus reported an employee of a subcontracted plumbing company working on the property was in the parking lot behaving strangely. They said he had “one shoe off” and seemed disoriented. Police spoke to the man who said he had a painful ankle injury. Police observed swelling and an abrasion and it was clear it hurt to walk. He declined medical attention. Multiple officers suggested he go home early and seek medical treatment and he said he would leave for the day. 

4 p.m. — Police went to Cameron’s Deli in Cross River where a woman was reported sitting inside her vehicle consuming alcohol. Not long after, the woman was observed by police starting her car. Police knocked on the window; an open container of alcohol was in the door. Field sobriety tests were performed. The driver was not in violation. She agreed to have another driver move her vehicle and she was issued one summons. 

Tuesday, July 14

9:24 a.m. — A woman was taken by ambulance from the Leon Levy Preserve to Norwalk Hospital by Vista EMS for a leg injury after falling on a walking trail. 

1:01 p.m. — A Cross River woman reported an iPhone she purchased online that was scheduled to be delivered via FedEx was not delivered despite FedEx saying it was signed for July 14. A report was made for documentation. 

7:30 p.m. — A bear was reported on a deck at a home in South Salem. Police saw it traveling west on East Street and then watched it cross Route 123 to enter a wooded area. Police activated their siren to encourage the bear to head deeper into the woods and away from people. 

Wednesday, July 15

9:15 p.m. — Police responded to an activated burglar alarm at a doctor’s office in Katonah. All doors were checked; one was insufficiently closed but then latched. Police said when they left all was in good order.  

Thursday, July 16

3:35 p.m. — A scam purporting to provide individual basketball instruction to kids was reported by a resident who received an email from an unidentified party about their two kids; a request to deposit money in a bank account was involved and address information was provided by the resident. Police advised them to go to the bank and close their account and for their own safety to utilize outdoor cameras they have around the house. 

Friday, July 17

9:40 a.m. — A person was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital for arm/elbow pain after they were involved in a collision on Route 35 in Cross River. Police said two cars collided after one driver failed to yield the right of way to the other.  

5:20 p.m. — A man came to headquarters to report eight months prior his wife moved out of their South Salem residence while he was hospitalized. He said she texted him to say she was moving back in; in 10 days they are supposed to sign a court-ordered settlement agreement. His attorney advised him not to allow it and to file a police report. No further action was requested.

Saturday, July 18

9:20 p.m. — Police went to a condo parking lot in Cross River after a woman tripped in front of her condo residence. She was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for a small laceration on her forehead. 

Sunday, July 19

9:43 a.m. — A dead fox apparently struck by a car was reported in the roadway in Cross River. The fox was not causing any traffic hazard. The Department of Transportation was notified. 

12 p.m. — A woman, 83, was transported from her South Salem home to Danbury Hospital by the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a Westchester County paramedic after reporting feeling poorly. 

1:50 p.m. — Police went to a home in Katonah for a report of a squirrel stuck in a basement. On arrival the caller said her husband was angry she called the police. She was offered domestic violence resources but said she had all the numbers. Police said she appeared reluctant to speak freely. An officer attempted to speak with her later in the day but she said she was unable to talk. The Westchester County Domestic Violence High Risk program was notified and updated on the situation. 

9 p.m. — A man was reported on the tracks at the Goldens Bridge train station. On police arrival he’d returned to the platform. Police said he told them he’d been drinking in the city all day and that when he got off a train at the station, his glasses fell onto the tracks. He was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital to be treated for intoxication.

POUND RIDGE

Bear-naked swimmer 

On Thursday, July 16, at 4:05 p.m., a Pine Brook Road resident reported a bear swimming in their pool. The bear was gone on police arrival; the resident said it climbed over the fence, took a quick dip, and then left to return to the woods. See story and photos on page 1.

Tuesday, July 14

7:50 a.m. — A two-car collision on Pound Ridge Road resulted in no injuries and no tows. 

10:09 p.m. — A complaint about traffic being blocked on Donbrook Road brought police to the area where they saw utility work being done and no traffic issues. 

2:45 p.m. — A White Birch Road South woman was taken to Stamford Hospital by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided.

9:14 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was issued a speeding ticket for traveling 49 mph in a marked 30-mph zone. 

Wednesday, July 15

4:20 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was given a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

10:23 a.m. — Wires were observed hanging low on Rolling Meadow Lane; police set out caution cones and the utility was notified.  

Thursday, July 16

7:20 p.m. — An illegally parked Porsche on Westchester Avenue was blocking fire trucks. The operator was located and moved their vehicle.  

9:05 p.m. — A caller on Hack Green Road reported a suspicious person dressed in a black hoodie sitting on a rock. Police said the person was gone prior to their arrival.  

Friday, July 17

2:00 p.m. — No violations were observed during a radar speed detail on Westchester Avenue. 

7:20 p.m. — Police went to a residence on West Lane in response to an activated medical alarm. The resident said it was accidentally activated and they didn’t need assistance. 

Saturday, July 18

2:15 a.m. — A dead raccoon likely struck by a car was removed from the roadway on High Ridge Road. 

10:50 a.m. — A speeding driver on Westchester Avenue was issued a ticket for doing 53 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

5:30 p.m. — A driver on Salem Road was ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign.  

Sunday, July 19

8:29 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for using their mobile device while driving. 

9:30 a.m. — A person parked on Westchester Avenue sitting in their car said they were struck by another driver who kept going. That operator’s license plate was provided to police who made contact with that driver who said they never saw the other car. Damage was minor. 

12:30 p.m. — A man was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital from his home on Major Talmadge Lane. No further information was provided.

7:00 p.m. — A caller on Spyrock Road reported a brown dog in their yard. The dog ran off. The caller later told police it was likely a coyote. 

MOUNT KISCO

Sunday, July 12

4:11 p.m. — An officer on patrol on West Hyatt Avenue observed a man drinking a can of beer. The man was issued a summons for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a violation. He is due in village court Aug. 13.

7:48 p.m. — An officer on patrol in the 100 block of Lexington Avenue observed a man drinking from a can of beer. The man was issued a summons for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a violation. He is due in village court Aug. 13.

Monday, July 13

1:43 p.m. — Officers and members of the Mount Kisco Fire Department were notified to establish a landing zone in Leonard Park for a medical helicopter that was bringing a patient to Northern Westchester Hospital.

3:58 p.m. — The Mobile Crisis Response Team was requested to help a person in crisis in the 400 block of Main Street.

5 p.m. — The Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a vehicle wanted in connection with a road rage incident on the Saw Mill River Parkway earlier in the day was traveling on South Bedford Road. The driver of the suspect vehicle was said to have thrown a rock at another motorist during the incident in Thornwood, striking her in the face. An officer located the vehicle on Route 117 as it entered New Castle and made a traffic stop. The driver, who denied throwing a rock at the other motorist, was issued a summons for an observed vehicle and traffic law violation and was permitted to leave. Detectives at headquarters are continuing the road rage investigation.

Tuesday, July 14

9:31 a.m. — A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had a license plate from her vehicle and would not return it. An investigation is continuing.

1:23 p.m. — Officers responded to Leonard Park to help establish a landing zone for a medical helicopter coming to pick up a patient from Northern Westchester Hospital.

Wednesday, July 15

6:57 p.m. — An officer responded to Sarles Avenue on a report of a verbal dispute. The incident was a landlord-tenant issue. The parties were advised the issue was a civil matter, not a police matter.

Friday, July 17

7:45 a.m. — A business on Kensico Drive reported an apparent break-in attempt had occurred the previous day. Damage to two rear doors was found at 10 p.m. the night before but police were not notified until the morning. An investigation is continuing.

3:57 p.m. — An officer responded to South Bedford Road on a report that a woman had fallen in a parking lot there. The woman declined medical attention.

8:20 p.m. — An officer on patrol on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers stopped a vehicle driven by a man with an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Mount Kisco Justice Court. The man was transported to village court where he was arraigned on a charge of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. He was released on his own recognizance at 9:30 p.m. He was scheduled to appear in court July 23.
