Police Reports — July 4-July 12

BEDFORD

Monday, July 6

12:10 a.m. — Police and Katonah fire personnel were on scene for a transformer fire  on Holly Branch Road. The fire was extinguished and the scene was turned over to the utility.  

9:59 a.m. — A 911 call coming from a residence on Greenwich Road, Bedford, was deemed accidental.  

12:38 p.m. — A Bedford man came to headquarters with his son to report fraud. The older man said he was contacted by an unknown party who said his grandson had been arrested and needed bail money. His son told him this was a scam. Police arranged a controlled hand-off where they thought they would be able to arrest the unknown party who was coming to the Bedford resident’s home to collect a bag of money. The older man balked and was uncooperative at the last moment and the scammer was likely scared off. Another vehicle coincidentally pulled into the man’s driveway moments later; police determined the operator was not the fraudster but just someone pulling into the driveway. The would-be victim of the fraud is not out any money.  

Tuesday, July 7

11:11 a.m. — A Katonah resident reported they’d had a party at their home; the party was by invitation only but a few extra guests showed up. After the party, the host saw on Ring video an unknown person stealing a golf bag, golf clubs and an XBOX. The suspect was identified. Police said the host reported the next day that all the stolen items were returned.  

12:36 p.m — Police and Katonah firefighters responded to a report of a car fire on Bedford Road. A tow truck that was taking away the burned vehicle reported the fire reignited while on the tow truck. No one was injured and the secondary fire was extinguished. 

7:10 p.m. — A report of a car on fire in the vicinity of Interstate 684 and Cross River Road was unfounded. 

7:17 p.m. — A fraud victim was reported to police after a transaction involving the sale of a laptop through QuickBooks turned sour. Police said the complainant received an alert indicating the buyer was using multiple cards to make the purchase. Police said the matter is being investigated by detectives.  

Wednesday, July 8

11:34 a.m. — Police went to a home in Katonah after someone requested a welfare check on the resident. The woman answered the door and told police she was well.  

1:04 p.m. — Police and Katonah firefighters went to Katonah Memorial Park after the driver of a tanker truck was accidentally shot in the face with chlorine when a hose disconnected and malfunctioned. While the man was attempting to rinse his face, the malfunctioning equipment caused a motor to catch fire. The tank truck driver, 27, from Bridgeport, Conn., was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. Katonah firefighters extinguished the fire. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and was on the scene. 

5:00 p.m. — Police went to a residence on Cherry Street, Katonah, after someone called 911. A mother told police her young daughter was known to play with the phone and there was no emergency.  

Thursday, July 9

12:07 p.m. — Katonah firefighters and Bedford Hills fire personnel went to a residence in Katonah after a belt in the home’s heating and cooling system burned out, resulting in a fire alarm activation. The family was outside the residence on police arrival. The homeowner was advised to contact a heating and cooling technician. 

Friday, July 10

3:32 p.m. — A resident of Babbitt Road, Bedford Hills, who was burning refuse in a barrel behind his home was advised of the ban on open burns. The fire was extinguished.  

7:18 p.m. — Police visited a home in Katonah after an argument over washing dishes became physical between a man and his stepson, 15. Other family members were present. EMS was on scene to evaluate the son. His mother declined further attention for him and a New York state domestic incident report was completed. 

Saturday, July 11

3:37 p.m. — A two-car collision on Old Post Road and Stone Hill Road resulted in one driver being issued two summonses and having their car towed. That driver, a Hopewell Junction man, told police he didn’t see the woman driving the other car making a left turn. That driver, a Pound Ridge resident, wasn’t injured and her car was not towed. 

11:33 p.m. — Police went to a residence on Croton Lake Road, Katonah, after someone called 911. On arrival they spoke with a woman who said her adult daughter might have made the call but wasn’t sure. She said there was no emergency. Police say these residents are frequent 911 callers. 

Sunday, July 12

5:21 p.m. — A car vs. scooter collision that took place in the ShopRite parking area on Bedford Road, Mount Kisco, was turned over to Westchester County Police.  

POUND RIDGE

Tuesday, July 7

6:00 a.m. — Police responded to a road block on High Ridge Road; on arrival they saw a tree blocking the northbound lane. The highway department was notified and the tree was moved.  

1:30 p.m. — An animal bite was reported on Scofield Road. No further information was provided. 

9:09 p.m. — A traffic summons was issued to a driver on Westchester Avenue for speeding 56 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

Wednesday, July 8

7:14 a.m. — Police assisted a High Ridge Road resident who requested a lift assist back into their chair.  

8:36 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

12:00 p.m. — A Westchester Avenue man was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital.  

4:15 p.m. — Police investigated a dumping incident on Westchester Avenue. A person was identified and told not to come onto private property or dump there again. 

6:10 p.m. — A driver on Stone Hill Road was given two tickets: one for deliberately trying to obscure their fake license plate; and a second for failure to obey a traffic control device.  

10:10 p.m. — A Trinity Pass Road woman was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided. 

Thursday, July 9

9:02 p.m. — A Bishop Park Road resident was given a lift assist by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  

Friday, July 10

7:02 a.m. — A loose dog reported on Salem Road was not located by police. 

7:36 a.m. — A High Ridge Road woman was taken by Westchester EMS to Westchester Medical Center. No further information was provided. 

8:41 a.m. — Reckless driving was reported on Pound Ridge Road. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. 

10:16 a.m. — Police went to an address on Westchester Avenue for reported use of a gas leaf blower; they couldn’t find any violators.  

3:00 p.m. — A caller on Stone Hill Road reported a bear sighting. Police didn’t see the bear. 

6:50 p.m. — A Salem Road resident was provided a lift assist by Westchester EMS.

Saturday, July 11

1:40 p.m. — A caller on Kinnicut Road reporting a neighbor using a gas leaf blower proved unfounded.  

3:30 p.m. — A caller West Lane reported a neighbor using a gas leaf blower. Police said no landscapers or property owners were on scene. 

5:25 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was issued summonses for no valid driver’s license, broken or damaged brake lights and other safety violations. 

9:00 p.m. — Fireworks reported on High Ridge Road were not located. 

Sunday, July 12

4:00 a.m. — Police went to an address on Pettit Lane after a caller reported “noises” coming from inside a house. The area was checked with negative results. 

7:47 a.m. — A Salem Road man was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided. 

10:15 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign. 

2:18 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

LEWISBORO

Monday, July 6 

10:16 a.m. — While patrolling Michelle Estates, an officer observed a tree down and blocking the roadway on Lambert Ridge. A second tree was blocking the roadway at the intersection of Gideon Reynolds and Silkman. The highway department was notified. 

Tuesday, July 7 

12:14 p.m. — Two dog incidents in the past were reported to police. One party said that on May 22, she was walking her dog at Ward Pound Ridge just south of the Lewisboro Town Park when two huskies off leash attacked her dog. Her dog was not injured. A second party reported via phone that on June 24, their dog was also attacked, reportedly by the same dogs. This dog sustained an eye injury. Police said these incidents were also reported to Westchester County Police. 

1:50 p.m. — Police went to an address in South Salem for a welfare check on a child. The request was made by Ridgefield Police after a caller in that jurisdiction reported a woman yelling at a toddler. The witness provided license plate information. The mother answered the door and said her child was having a tantrum. No further action was taken. 

Wednesday, July 8

11:47 a.m. — A residential program manager of a multi-dwelling facility in South Salem came to headquarters to report an assault. They said the victim was going to be seen by a nurse to determine if there were internal injuries. An investigation is pending. 

Thursday, July 9

8:08 a.m. — Police attempted to serve a summons at a residence in Katonah. It was unclear from the report if the attempt was successful. 

9:04 a.m. — Police served an appearance ticket to a resident on Hunts Farm Road, Waccabuc. The recipient is required to appear in court July 27 to answer the offense of an unlicensed dog. 

9:30 a.m. — A suspicious person was reported at the train station in Goldens Bridge. He identified himself as from Poughkeepsie but said he was currently unhoused. Police contacted his brother who said he hadn’t seen or heard from him in 10 years. Police left him alone. 

Friday, July 10

12:24 p.m. — A child, 12, suffering a severe head laceration from an electric  bicycle incident in the vicinity of Church Tavern Road, was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. Police said he had other injuries but only complained about his leg. He said the brakes gave out and he struck and flipped over a guard rail. He was wearing a helmet. His father arrived and traveled in the ambulance with him. 

Saturday, July 11

9:13 a.m. — Neighbors were reported arguing in Goldens Bridge. Police went to the residence about a complaint of what appeared to be a landscaper issue involving survey reports and property lines. Police advised both parties to stop communicating with each other and to seek out a professional surveyor to mark the property lines. 

2:45 p.m. — Criminal mischief was reported in South Salem in a shopping plaza. As the report was heavily redacted, no further information was available. 

6:30 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem after a cat-sitter requested assistance with a jammed front door. Police showed her how the door had two locks and how to operate the locks. No further assistance was needed. 

Sunday, July 12

12:45 p.m. — Police went to Four Winds Hospital for a report of a man refusing to leave the property. They spoke with a man who said he wanted his daughter’s things back; she was admitted as a patient by her mother on July 4. It was explained to the man that his daughter was a patient and he had no authority. He finally left the area. 

3:30 p.m. — A South Salem resident complained to police about a neighbor operating an excavator for most of the day in the vicinity of Smith Ridge Road. Police went to the location but the machine was off and the operator was gone. A note was left for the homeowner who apologized for the noise and said it wouldn’t happen again.  

MOUNT KISCO

Saturday, July 4

7:34 a.m. — Officers responded to the 600 block of East Main Street on a report of two men walking into an adjacent trailway carrying two 12-packs of beer. Officers located the two men and observed open cans of beer and discarded ones. The two men, 48 and 52, were issued summonses for public consumption of an alcoholic beverage and littering, both violations. They are due in village court Aug. 8.

8:27 a.m. — An officer on patrol on Lexington Avenue observed a man drinking a beer on the street. He was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol. He is due in village court Aug. 8.

8:30 a.m. — An officer observed a man walking with an open can of beer in his hand on the 600 block of Lexington Avenue. The man, 52, was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol. He is due in village court Aug. 8.

10:54 a.m. — Officers responded to Lundy Lane on a report of a man in emotional crisis. The man requested to be taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation. The Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and took him to the medical center.

1:13 p.m. — A welfare check was requested at a Grove Street residence where a ceiling collapse occurred due to a water leak. There were no injuries to tenants.

8 p.m. — A large tree fell on Stewart Place, taking down power lines and blocking both lanes of travel and the sidewalk. Officers closed both ends of the street and maintained a presence due to live wires. The condition was not resolved until the following day.

Sunday, July 5

8:05 a.m. — Police received a report of an injured hawk on Kisco Avenue. A wildlife rehabilitation specialist was contacted and responded to take possession of the animal.

9:53 a.m. — Officers responded to Kirby Plaza on a report of an assault that occurred a short time earlier. A man told officers that he had been punched several times by another man at a Maple Avenue deli. The man said he had an ongoing dispute with his attacker over money but he refused to identify his assailant or cooperate further. EMS was requested to respond because the man was bleeding from his face and needed care and transport to the hospital.

10:57 a.m. — An officer responded to a fast-food restaurant on North Bedford Road on a complaint that a woman was sleeping in a booth and ignoring requests to leave the premises. Condition corrected.

3:44 p.m. — Police received a report of a dispute between neighbors. A man reported that a large tree branch had fallen onto his property from a neighbor’s tree and the neighbor refused to pay for it to be removed. The man was advised the issue was a civil matter. He requested a report be prepared to document that he had reported the matter when it occurred.

10:42 p.m. — An officer on patrol observed a small rubbish fire in a milk crate in the 500 block of East Main Street. The fire was extinguished.

Monday, July 6

8:41 a.m. — An officer responded to Victoria Drive on a report of an unresponsive woman. A 94-year-old woman was found deceased at her residence. Westchester EMS and the Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded and a paramedic pronounced the woman dead of apparent natural causes.

11:45 a.m. — An intoxicated man was found behind a business on South Moger Avenue. EMS requested to respond to evaluate him.

1:32 p.m. — A Gatto Drive resident requested that the Mobile Crisis Response Team assist a relative in crisis. At 2:15 p.m., the team requested a police response to assist at the scene.

2:41 p.m. — A 57-year-old South Salem resident was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, on a complaint from staff at Target on North Bedford Road. The woman is accused of failing to scan almost $300 worth of merchandise while using the self-checkout lanes and then leaving with those items in her possession. The woman was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a July 23 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.

Tuesday, July 7

7:48 a.m. — A man arrived at the Green Street precinct to turn in a wallet he found near the Mount Kisco Library. The property was vouchered for safekeeping.

10:23 a.m. — Multiple officers responded to Barker Street and Carpenter Avenue after a pedestrian was stuck by a car while crossing the street. The Mount Kisco Fire Department, Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Westchester EMS also responded. A woman in her 80s was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. The driver, a Connecticut man in his 60s, remained at the scene and told officers he did not see the woman as he made a left turn from Carpenter Avenue to Barker Street. The Westchester County Police Accident Investigation Team was requested to respond from headquarters. Several streets in the area were closed while that investigation was conducted by the accident investigation team and detectives. Westchester County officers from outside the village were requested to respond to assist with those closures.

2:48 p.m. — Officers responded to a North Moger Avenue business on a report of a dispute between a customer and clerk. The customer was issued a trespass warning barring him from returning.

6:35 p.m. — A woman reported that a taxi driver who brought her home the previous Friday took photos of her house after she got out of the cab. She asked for a report to document her concern about his behavior.

9:41 p.m. — Officers responded to Gatto Drive on a report of a domestic dispute. The incident was determined to be verbal in nature only. A report was prepared.

Wednesday, July 8

6:41 p.m. — A West Hyatt Avenue resident reported that her dog was missing. The dog was located at 7:18 p.m. on Maple Avenue and reunited with its owner.

7:30 p.m. — Multiple officers responded to a North Moger Avenue residence on a report of a man having a mental health crisis and refusing to cooperate with a caregiver. Westchester EMS and the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded. The man agreed to be taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation.

10:34 p.m. — Police received a report of a loud party at a Barker Street residence. The condition was corrected.

11:41 p.m. — An officer responded to the 500 block of East Main Street to assist a man who said he was experiencing pain in his rib cage. The officer determined the man was highly intoxicated. The Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to take him to the hospital.

Thursday, July 9

10:08 a.m. — The Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen car was being driven on West Main Street and Manchester Drive. Officers canvassed the area but did not locate the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently reported to be in the area of Grant Street and the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville. Mount Pleasant Police located it at a gas station in Thornwood and took the driver into custody.

2:16 p.m. — A 25-year-old North Salem resident was arrested following a traffic stop on Sarles Avenue. He was found to be in possession of seven small, clear packages containing a total of 6.9 grams of cocaine. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; and driving without a seat belt, a violation. He was arraigned in Mount Kisco Justice Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail. He was due back in court July 14.
