Bedford

Bear not welcome 

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 5:33 p.m., a caller in Bedford reported she was stuck in her car on her own property as there was a black bear hanging around. The bear had gone around to the rear of the house when police arrived and an officer chased it off. The caller was advised to contact the Department of Environmental Conservation.   

Monday, Oct. 27

9:09 a.m. — A Bedford man, 81, who suspected he might have COVID-19, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters to be treated for fever.  

10:35 a.m. — A Yorktown man who owns a residential property in Katonah came with his attorney to headquarters looking for advice for legal eviction. The property owner said his tenant, whose lease agreement expired this summer, was currently in jail. Since his incarceration, friends or family members whose names are not on the lease moved in. The landlord attempted to collect rent from them without success.   

3:27 p.m. — A landscaping worker who collapsed while doing yard work in a Katonah yard was found unconscious on the grass. An officer who arrived first on scene began providing CPR; they were soon joined by a medic. He was transported by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps  to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.

Tuesday, Oct. 28

12:57 p.m. — A Bedford resident came to the police with an envelope containing $170 in cash with a first name handwritten on it. He said he found it on the ground near a bank. His wife posted the envelope on social media looking for a claimant but no one came forward. The bank told the man someone did come inside inquiring but didn’t leave their information. Police took the envelope into safekeeping. 

Wednesday, Oct. 29

8:36 a.m. — A poorly secured load of lumber fell off a truck and onto a Porsche traveling on Pound Ridge Road near Old Post Road. No one was injured and neither vehicle required a tow. No citations were issued.  

9:12 a.m. — A caller reported a Honda minivan with swastikas painted on the hood in Bedford Hills in the vicinity of Adams Street and Depot Plaza. Police say it was gone on their arrival. 

12:45 p.m. — Police say detectives are investigating a fraud situation involving a town employee; the victim is the town of Bedford. An email was received that turned out to be fraudulent. No further information was provided. 

5:10 p.m. — A horse who escaped from its stable at a property in Bedford ventured out to the pool area where it stepped out onto the pool cover and then was stranded. The horse was safely back in its stall on police arrival thanks to a farmhand who hand walked it off the cover without incident. 

Thursday, Oct. 30

10:26 a.m. — The president of the Westchester Land Trust reported an unknown party used someone else’s identity to log on to a Zoom meeting and then harassed and harangued another person on Zoom. The person whose identity was stolen was contacted by police but knew nothing about the matter. A report was made for documentation.  

1:52 p.m. — A FedEx driver reported they were bitten by a dog at a residence in Bedford Hills. The health department was notified and police said there is paperwork being prepared to be served to the homeowner.     

Friday, Oct. 31

9:55 p.m. — Teens reported stealing pumpkins on Succabone Road, Bedford Hills, were gone on police arrival. 

Saturday, Nov. 1

11:50 a.m. — A 2-year-old who became unconscious from an allergic reaction was breathing and alert when medics arrived at her Katonah home. She was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by the Katonah Bedford Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Sunday, Nov. 2

9:27 a.m. — A resident of Redding, Conn., male, 69, told police he didn’t know what made him fall when he was reported as a cyclist down on Old Post Road in Bedford. He was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters for evaluation.  

10:04 a.m. — A parent came to headquarters to report and document an incident involving their child and another child at the Bedford Village Elementary School that happened Oct. 20. The reporting party said they were attempting to discuss this with school staff. The school resource officer is aware of the altercation and will be following up.  


Pound Ridge

Tuesday, Oct. 28

6:00 a.m. — Six summonses were issued to drivers traveling on Westchester Avenue: four for speeding, one for talking on the phone or texting while driving; and one for driving to the left of pavement markings.

9:20 a.m. — A driver on Salem Road got a ticket for disobeying a traffic device. 

5:30 p.m. — Four summonses were issued to drivers on Salem Road for failing to obey a traffic device.  

Thursday, Oct. 30

3:10 a.m. — Fallen tree limbs and wires down were reported on Old Pound Road. The utility and the highway department were notified. 

2:00 p.m. — High Ridge Road was closed and then reopened after a situation involving dangling wires and a tree blocking the roadway was remedied. 

Friday, Oct. 31 

11:35 a.m. — A downed tree with wires was reported on Old Snake Road. The utility was notified. 

Sunday, Nov. 2 

11:55 a.m. — Three summonses were issued to drivers on Westchester Avenue for minor vehicular infractions. 


Mount Kisco 

Friday, Oct. 24

4:42 p.m. — A man, 29, was charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into a domestic incident at a Carpenter Avenue residence on Oct. 23. The man is accused of shoving a 9-year-old boy to the ground, causing an injury to the child’s hand. The suspect was booked at the Green Street precinct and held for arraignment. A New York state domestic incident report was prepared and child protective services was notified.

7:11 p.m. — Staff at T.J. Maxx on East Main Street reported a prior larceny; video from Oct. 8 was provided showing a female shopper in her 60s selecting multiple items of jewelry, clothing and perfume and paying for 14 of those items at a register. The video also showed the woman had not paid for about $500 worth of merchandise that she hid in some shopping bags. An officer prepared a report and turned the case over to detectives for continued investigation.

10 p.m. — Police received a report of an intoxicated man behind Village Hall on Main Street. A responding officer located the man and requested an EMS response because the man was highly intoxicated. The Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the man to Northern Westchester Hospital.

10:21 p.m. — A patron of a bar on South Moger Avenue reported that someone stole his backpack while he was inside the bar. He believes that another man left with the backpack and got into a taxi. The victim said there was nothing of value in the backpack but asked for a report to be prepared to document the incident. 

Saturday, Oct. 25

12:14 a.m. — Police received a report of a man asleep behind the wheel of a parked car on Maple Avenue. An officer checked on the man and determined he had not been drinking but had fallen asleep while waiting to pick up a friend who lives on the street. When the friend came out of his house, he volunteered to drive because his friend was very tired. He showed the officer a valid driver’s license and was allowed to drive from the scene.

6:59 p.m. — A man reported at the Green Street precinct that his car was damaged in a hit-and-run incident while it was parked in a lot on North Bedford Road. An investigation is continuing.

11:31 p.m. — Report of a man experiencing chest pain on Main Street. The man, who was also intoxicated, was taken by the Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation.

Sunday, Oct. 26

1:30 a.m. — A 30-year-old Brewster man was arrested after a traffic stop in front of Village Hall on Main Street. He was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle without the interlock device he is required to have. He was also issued summonses for crossing road hazard markings and driving an unregistered vehicle.  

5:21 p.m. — A man was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol, a violation, after he was observed drinking from a can of beer on the 600 block of East Main Street.

Monday, Oct. 27

8:45 p.m. — Report of a nurse assaulted by a patient at Northern Westchester Hospital. The victim reported that she was drawing blood when the man struck her on the head. The patient had been brought to the hospital a few hours earlier for a psychological evaluation because he had been behaving erratically. An investigation is continuing.

9:10 p.m. — Report of an intoxicated man lying on the sidewalk near 37 Main St. EMS was requested to take the man to the hospital for evaluation.

Tuesday, Oct. 28

7:54 a.m. — Report of a hit-and-run collision at Main Street and South Moger Avenue. A Katonah man reported that another vehicle sideswiped his car and fled as he waited to make a turn. An officer canvassed nearby parking lots but could not locate the other vehicle. It was determined that security video from a local business may have captured the incident but the video was not immediately available to police. An investigation is continuing.

11:08 a.m. — A woman reported a domestic incident that occurred a short time earlier on the Saw Mill River Parkway near Cherry Street in Bedford. An officer assigned to patrol the parkway was requested to respond to the Green Street precinct to take the report. The woman reported that her ex-husband began tailgating her as she drove south on the parkway, pulled alongside her and made obscene gestures, then cut her off by pulling his car abruptly in front of hers. An investigation is continuing.

5:19 p.m. — A 30-year-old Mount Vernon woman was arrested on a warrant following a traffic stop on Kisco Avenue near the Saw Mill River Parkway. The warrant, charging the woman with driving with a suspended license, was issued by the Mount Vernon Police Department after she failed to appear for multiple court dates to answer the charge. She was transported to Mount Vernon and turned over to police for processing.

9:57 p.m. — A 23-year-old Grove Street resident was arrested following a traffic stop on Carpenter Avenue. The man was found to be driving with a suspended license and driving a vehicle that did not have the interlock device he is required to have. He was booked at the Green Street precinct on charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and circumventing an interlock device. He was released and was scheduled to appear in Mount Kisco Justice Court on Nov. 6.

Wednesday, Oct. 29

9:47 a.m. — A complaint was received regarding a person who has been trespassing on Mount Kisco Housing Authority property on Carpenter Avenue. An investigation is continuing.


Lewisboro

Monday, Oct. 27

12:00 p.m. — A South Salem resident came to headquarters to report one or both of his yellow Labradors bit a home health aide who came to care for a family member living in the residence. He said he was not home at the time but that his wife told him she lost control of the dogs while escorting the aide to the patient. The aide sustained a laceration on their arm and drove themselves to the hospital. The reporting party said he’d been in phone contact with them and that they intended to make a police report. A dog bite form was filled out and a report made for documentation. 

12:02 p.m. — Police went to a gas station in Cross River where a man wearing a very distinctive gray hoodie was reported stealing lottery tickets. The employee, who has video of the man reaching behind the counter, said he believes this man is responsible for other lottery ticket thefts in the past, totalling about $250. He said he wouldn’t press charges if the man returned and paid for the tickets. Police identified the man doing landscaping work in the area. At first he denied the theft but later agreed to return to the gas station that afternoon. Police following up learned he did return and paid up. 

3:41 p.m. — A South Salem female, age unknown, was transported by Lewisboro ambulance to NWHC after her father reported she talked about self-harm. An officer on arrival spoke to her and convinced her to go to the hospital for evaluation. 

Tuesday, Oct. 28

4:36 p.m. — Lewisboro Police assisted Louisiana State Police and New York State Police by going to a residence on Church Tavern Road for a fraud investigation regarding a person of interest. The resident said he was the owner of the property and had been so since 2012. He thought the person of interest was the former owner of the property and believed the man had moved to Indonesia. No further information was provided.

8:05 p.m. — Police went to a home in Goldens Bridge for an argument between a married couple who are in the process of divorcing. Their argument stemmed from a conversation they were having that the husband, on the advice of his attorney, recorded on his watch. A New York state domestic incident report was completed. 

Wednesday, Oct. 29

9:35 p.m. — A Katonah man, 64, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a laceration to his ankle that wouldn’t stop bleeding. 

Thursday, Oct. 30

7:12 a.m. — A truck/trailer with an altered registration rear-ended a school bus traveling in Cross River on Route 35 in the vicinity of the John Jay campus; The truck kept going. The bus operator said the truck entered her lane of traffic and struck the bus, damaging the stop arm, camera, rear bumper and quarter panel. The owner of the company that owns the trailer was contacted by police; they said they would locate the trailer and the operator to make arrangements for a resolution. No injuries were reported and it is unknown if students were on the bus. 

Friday, Oct. 31

6:32 p.m. — A woman whose own dog bit her at their home in South Salem was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a single puncture wound to her hand. A Westchester County dog bite form was completed. 

9:50 p.m. — Trick-or-treaters who overstayed their welcome were safely dispersed by police from a yard in Katonah where police say 150 teens had gathered. The homeowner said he’d told his son he could have a few kids over after 8:30 p.m., when everyone was done trick-or-treating, but a surge of kids arrived and then wouldn’t leave. Police told the teens to clean up the trash and several vehicles were issued summonses for parking violations. 

Sunday, Nov. 2

3:58 p.m. — A man complaining of chest pain was transported from a location in Cross River to a Connecticut hospital after a motor vehicle collision. No further information was provided.
