BEDFORD

Precautionary lockout at Fox Lane High School

On Thursday, Sept. 3, at 10:56 a.m., a temporary lockout was conducted at Fox Lane High School as a precaution because of what was determined to be a swatting incident targeting a student. Police said the school was aware in advance of the swatting; police say techniques used by the individuals responsible make it very difficult to trace to a specific source. The school, they said, will handle its own internal investigation. 

Man accused of copper thefts

On Friday, Sept. 4, an undomiciled man, 38, was arrested by Bedford Police at Greenburgh police headquarters on White Plains Road, charged with burglary, illegal entry with intent, and petty larceny. Police charged him in two incidents of copper fittings being stolen from work vans at a business on Adams Street, Bedford Hills, that day, and two days earlier. Working with security footage as well as coordination with southern Westchester police departments, detectives took the man into custody in Greenburgh, where he was wanted for similar crimes. He was taken to Bedford where he was processed with a date to return to court Sept. 9 and immediately turned over to Yorktown Police, who also have charges against him. 

Monday, Aug. 31

6:20 a.m. — A disturbance was reported by an employee at a gas station on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. A man was described pacing back and forth outside the store, screaming. He identified himself as 46 years old from Mount Kisco, where he is currently homeless. He said he was searching for cigarette butts on the ground because he couldn’t afford to buy a pack. He was told to leave the area.  

12:02 p.m. — A suspicious person reported sitting on a bench at the Bedford Memorial Park in Bedford Village was gone on police arrival. 

Tuesday, Sept. 1

2:21 a.m. — A Bedford resident called police to report their unlocked vehicle with the keys in it was stolen from their driveway. Another party reported it speeding in Cross River. The Westchester County Real Time Crime Unit was notified and an air tag located it unoccupied in Danbury, Conn., where it was secured into their police impound.  

12:58 p.m. — A dog found on Stone Bridge Road, Bedford Hills, was returned to its owner before police arrived.  

4:16 p.m. — A Bedford resident came to headquarters to report their identity was fraudulently used in another state after receiving notice of delinquent court fines in Washington, D.C., for traffic violations. The complainant has never been to Washington. A report was made for documentation. 

Wednesday, Sept. 2

7:46 p.m. — A caller in Katonah reported a person knocking on doors on Cottage Place and South Road. Police did not locate the individual.  

Thursday, Sept. 3

2:53 p.m. — A caller reported a suspicious person in the vicinity of Court Road and Seminary Road, Bedford. Police searched the location without result.

Friday, Sept. 4

3:30 p.m. — A Bedford resident told police a check he wrote to pay a bill was washed and cashed to an unknown party. The person is working with their bank to get their money refunded. A report was made for documentation as requested by the bank.  

5:43 p.m. — A vehicle with a loud muffler was reported in the vicinity of Nightingale Road and New Street, Katonah. Police didn’t find the vehicle.  

7:04 p.m. — A badly injured snapping turtle was humanely dispatched by police on West Patent Road, Bedford Hills. The highway department was contacted for removal. 

Saturday, Sept. 5

10:40 a.m. — Police went to a residence in Katonah for a 911 call that was received in error. 

8:11 p.m. — A caller on Jefferson Lane, Bedford, reported a strange odor that they thought might be fire. The fire department responded and said there was no fire and no strange smell.  

Sunday, Sept. 6

9:28 p.m. — A deceased cat reported on Old Post Road and Court Road, Bedford, was observed by police who contacted the highway department for removal.

MOUNT KISCO

Friday, Aug. 28

3:16 p.m. — An officer on patrol on Main Street observed a man who was known to have outstanding arrest warrants sitting on the wall of St. Mark’s Cemetery. The warrants were associated with failing to answer previous charges in Mount Kisco Justice Court. The 51-year-old was taken into custody on two warrants charging him with trespass and another charging him with public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, both violations. He was arraigned in court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He was due back in court Sept. 10.

3:25 p.m. — A Stewart Place woman reported that she purchased a device online that detects hidden cameras and believes one has been placed inside her showerhead. A responding officer determined there was no camera present.

4:09 p.m. — An officer on South Moger Avenue observed suspicious activity inside a parked vehicle and made a traffic stop when the vehicle drove away. A passenger in the vehicle got out and tried to walk away but was detained for investigation. An officer with a narcotics detection canine responded from outside the village to assist. The passenger, a 37-year-old Maple Avenue resident, was subsequently found in possession of a small quantity of cocaine. The subject was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. It was also determined that the man had an outstanding arrest warrant from Mercer County, N.J., charging him with assault. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department advised it would extradite the man. He was remanded to the Westchester County Jail as a fugitive from justice pending a Sept. 17 extradition hearing.

Saturday, Aug. 29

11:54 a.m. — Report of a woman in her 80s who was breathing but not responsive at her Woodcrest Lane home. The Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded, evaluated the woman and took her to Northern Westchester Hospital for additional care.

12:54 p.m. — Officers responded to North Moger Avenue after an anonymous caller expressed concern for an 11-year-old girl who was left alone by her mother. The child was asleep upon officers’ arrival and told them that her mother had gone out. The mom could not be reached by phone or located at several local bars that officers visited. A 17-year-old relative who lives on the block agreed to come to the apartment to stay with the younger child. New York State Child Protective Services was notified.

5:47 p.m. — A Lexington Avenue resident told police that she believes her ex-boyfriend let the air out of two tires on her car and two tires of her boyfriend’s car during the overnight hours. The woman reported that her ex-boyfriend came to her door at 4 a.m. and knocked repeatedly. She did not answer the door nor speak with the man. She said security video provided by her landlord shows her ex-boyfriend leaving the building after 4 a.m., approaching the two vehicles and crouching down next to them. She was provided with information on how to obtain an order of protection in Westchester County Family Court. A New York state domestic incident report was prepared and lethality screening was conducted. The matter was turned over to a detective for continued investigation.

9:21 p.m. — An officer conducting an inspection in the Blackeby lot observed two men sleeping in the doorway of a business. The men were advised they were on private property and had to leave. As the officer kept the two men under observation to ensure they left, he observed one of them walk to another area and urinate against a wall. That man was issued a summons for public urination, a violation.

Sunday, Aug. 30

6 a.m. — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department advised that it had a 24-year-old Brewster resident in custody who is wanted on warrants issued by the Mount Kisco Justice Court. An officer assigned to the Saw Mill River Parkway was sent to the rest stop on Interstate 684 to meet a sheriff’s deputy to take custody of the prisoner. The Brewster man was brought to the Mount Kisco precinct where he was booked and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and bail jumping. He was held for arraignment in village court later in the day.

11:40 a.m. — Report of a man having fallen off the roof of a Grove Street residence that he had been power washing. Westchester EMS responded and provided care upon an officer’s arrival. The man, who was conscious and alert, suffered leg and hip injuries. He was taken by the Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Westchester Medical Center.

8:47 p.m. — An open container violation was observed by an officer in the 500 block of Lexington Avenue. A summons was issued for public consumption of alcohol, a violation.

Monday, Aug. 31

2:32 a.m. — Officers responded to Grove Street regarding a roommate dispute over property. The parties were advised the dispute was a civil matter.

4:18 a.m. — A caller reported that he believed an intoxicated man was about to leave a bar on Main Street and drive away in a blue pickup truck. The caller, who was apparently intoxicated, was unable to provide a description of the driver or a license plate of the vehicle. A responding officer observed no pickup truck in the vicinity or anyone leaving the bar for several minutes.

9:15 a.m. — A man arrived at the Green Street precinct to report that one of his license plates apparently fell off during a recent accident and he had not realized it. An officer helped him prepare paperwork to notify DMV of the missing plate.

12:16 p.m. — An officer responded to T.J. Maxx on Main Street on a report of a larceny in the past. Store loss prevention personnel turned over video of a theft of merchandise. An investigation is continuing.

4:16 p.m. — Store security at Target on North Bedford Road notified police that it had detained a man for shoplifting. A 47-year-old Poughkeepsie man was taken into custody and booked at the Green Street precinct for petty larceny, a misdemeanor. He was released pending a Sept. 17 appearance in village court.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

1:12 a.m. — A Lundy Lane resident reported that someone was sitting outside his residence and he wanted the person removed from his property. Condition corrected.

9:09 a.m. — Officers responded to a commercial building on Lexington Avenue after a woman arriving for work observed a man inside the building who did not belong there. The woman went outside to call police and took cellphone video of the man as he left the property. Officers canvassed the area and a tracking canine was deployed with negative results. The property manager advised that he would press charges for trespass if the man is subsequently located or returns to the building.

1:03 p.m. —A man reported that his car was missing from the Stop & Shop parking lot on North Bedford Road. The man’s car was located upon an officer’s arrival.

2:33 p.m. — Report of a car damaged by a fallen tree branch in the 400 block of Main Street. The vehicle owner reported that he had parked behind stores there and discovered the branch that caused damage to his car. A report was prepared.

Wednesday, Sept. 2

1:11 a.m. — A Smith Avenue resident reported that a woman was running down the street screaming. He advised that he came outside to make sure she was OK and that she said she was fine. Responding officers spoke with the woman and determined that she and her boyfriend had been in an argument. The boyfriend was contacted by phone and he advised that he had gone to a friend’s home in Katonah and would not be returning until tomorrow to defuse the situation.

2:18 a.m. — Report of a woman who passed out behind a bar in the 200 block of Main Street. A friend who was with the woman said they were talking when the woman collapsed. EMS was requested but an immediate response was not possible. Officers took the woman, who had become conscious and alert, to the hospital in a patrol car.

3:16 a.m. — A High Street resident reported that a young woman or teenage girl knocked on his door at about 3 a.m. He said he reviewed the doorbell camera video and described the female as wearing denim shorts, pink fluffy slippers and a grey T-shirt and had her hair in a ponytail. Officers canvassed the neighborhood but did not locate anyone resembling that description. Officers also determined that there were no current reports regarding a missing person of similar age or description.

LEWISBORO

Monday, Aug. 31 

10:20 a.m. — A caller in South Salem contacted the Lewisboro town clerk by email and telephone to report a particular carting company collecting garbage from a nearby restaurant prior to the allowable time under a town ordinance. The complainant said this has happened several times over the course of a few years. The complainant was advised they would need physical evidence that proved the actual time of pickup. The carting company said they did not violate any ordinance; they were advised to videotape on their phone every time there is a pickup at the location. 

2:45 p.m. — Two small children were reported walking alone at the Lewisboro Town Park near Route 35. Two separate parties expressed their concern about their welfare. It was later reported the children were reunited with a grandparent; police said they left the park prior to their arrival. 

Tuesday, Sept. 1 

12:17 p.m. — Police attempted multiple times to serve a summons for an unlicensed dog to a residence in Cross River. The first time no one was home. The second time a car was in the driveway but no one came to the door. On the third attempt at 5:52 p.m., a summons was successfully served to the spouse who said the family had just returned from two months in France and the registered owner was at work. 

Wednesday, Sept. 2 

8:25 a.m. — A Katonah woman reported as suicidal was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps after she made concerning statements to the police. 

12:24 p.m. — Police went to Quincy Court, Goldens Bridge, for an ongoing dispute between neighbors. It was alleged that one of them had purposely spilled gasoline in the other’s driveway. Police advised all parties to avoid contact and to call 911 if the situation escalated. 

Thursday, Sept. 3

11:15 a.m. — A South Salem man came to headquarters with an order of protection from his son. Police called the son who said he was out of town for work and would be returning the following week. He declined to give his temporary address in Washington, D.C.; that police department was contacted with the pertinent information and provided with a cover letter to serve the son with the court order. 

8:00 p.m. — Police went to a home on Elmwood Road, South Salem, after the resident requested they check for a possible intruder. When she arrived home after running errands, the TV was on, leading her to believe someone entered the house. Police checked inside and out and said there was no sign of unwanted parties. 

Friday, Sept. 4

9:20 a.m. — Police went to the Shell station on Route 35 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a car. A male was observed on the ground with major injuries to his arm and his leg. Westchester EMS,  Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and South Salem firefighters were on scene. The injured party was transported to Westchester Medical Center. The operator of the vehicle was determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police are investigating. 

12:33 p.m. — A Cross River resident who admitted to police he threw dishes on the lawn after his daughter wouldn’t clean them was reported as “mentally abusive” by his son, who had stayed at his father’s place the night before. Police spoke to the father and another adult in the home and provided resources for domestic violence. Police said they would be following up with the child’s school at a later time. 

Saturday, Sept. 5

4:25 p.m. — A delivery driver in Katonah drove over someone's lawn and a rock became stuck under his car. As a result a small portion of the lawn was dug up and the driveway was also scraped. Sal’s Tow arrived to handle the situation.

POUND RIDGE

Wednesday, Sept. 2

11:26 a.m. — A commercial driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for loose cargo and towing more than one vehicle.  

12:15 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was given a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

12:32 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was given a ticket for no brake lights.  

12:06 p.m. — Police went to a location on White Birch Road South for a noise complaint. When they got there they heard a buzz from a pool filter. 

7:56 p.m. — A tree observed down and blocking Honey Hollow Road was removed by the highway department.  

9:52 p.m. — A downed tree on Cross River Road was observed. The Department of Transportation was notified.   

Thursday, Sept. 3

5:15 p.m. — Low-hanging wires reported on Trinity Pass Road were removed.  

5:33 p.m. — A driver traveling on Highview Road was ticketed for speeding and making an illegal right turn. 

Friday, Sept. 4

1:10 p.m. — A tree reported blocking Pound Ridge Road was removed.  

2:26 p.m. — A woman requesting medical help on Parkview Road decided to decline it. 

4:00 p.m. — A speeding and erratic driver reported traveling on Highview Road was not located. 

Saturday, Sept. 5

12:30 p.m. — A Westchester Avenue resident, female, was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.

2:34 p.m. — A landscaper reported on West Lane using a gas leaf blower was not located. 

Sunday, Sept. 6

6:45 p.m. — A caller on Westchester Avenue reported a bear in their backyard. Police arrived; the bear decided to leave and hightailed it back into the woods. 

Monday, Sept. 7 

7:50 a.m. — A person was ticketed on Westchester Avenue for illegally parking in the handicapped spot.  

11:21 a.m. — Police went to a residence on South Bedford Road for a 911 hang-up call. The resident said there was no emergency and they’d misdialed.  

1:49 p.m. — A landscaper working at a property on Autumn Ridge Road was told he was in violation of an ordinance prohibiting such work be done on a holiday. The work was stopped.

2:30 p.m. — The highway department was notified of a tree reported down on Old Stone Hill Road. 

10:47 p.m. — A Westchester Avenue resident was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.
