Patricia Herlihy White, 89, formerly of Bedford, loved family and travel

Patricia Herlihy White, of South Salem and formerly of Bedford, died Nov. 20.

She was 89 and leaves behind two daughters, Lisa White and Pamela White Shea (David), a son, Douglas White (Amy Wilbur), four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard White, and sister, Clair.

White was born in Yonkers with many extended family members nearby. Her family said some of her favorite memories were riding the trolley cars, shopping for candies and visiting with a family friend who had a monkey, a duck and birds.

When she was in high school her family moved to Wolfeboro, N.H., on Lake Winnipesaukee, where she graduated high school from Brewster Academy. After graduation she moved back to Yonkers and worked for Vick Chemical in New York City. When her mother became ill and needed help running the bed and breakfast her parents had started, her family said, she returned to New Hampshire, where she met her future husband. They were married six months later.

He had a career as an estate gardener and they lived in Skaneateles, N.Y., Alpine, N.J., and eventually Bedford. While he was working for the Rockefeller family in Bedford, she was the receptionist for two Bedford dentists.

Music was an integral part of her life, her family said, particularly Irish music. The couple would drive to Irish music festivals any weekend they could. Every summer she and her husband would spend two weeks enjoying the bike trails, music and seafood of the Cape.

Burial was private.. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.
