David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community.

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

IN BRIEF

Neil A. Walsh of Katonah, enjoyed travel, hiking, and reading

Neil A. Walsh of Katonah died July 5, 2024. He was born in Forty Fort, Penn., graduated from Boston College, and earned an MBA from Drexel University.

He lived all over the country while working for Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments. At Schwab in the early 1990s, he was on the team that successfully launched Schwab’s new innovative product One Source.

Walsh was a traveler, belonged to a cycling club while living in San Francisco, and took several backroads bicycling trips, his favorites being Peru, Banff, and Seattle. He and his wife, Nancy shared their love of travel with their three children, taking them to San Francisco, London and Spain. He is pictured above on the family’s last trip, which was to Bryce Canyon, Utah.

Walsh’s family said he looked forward to the large family Thanksgivings each year, playing in the annual football game and listening to what all the cousins, nieces and nephews were up to.

Walsh also was an avid reader and enjoyed hiking. On Sundays (when not watching football), he often could be found at the Bedford Playhouse or hiking at Mianus River Gorge. Relaxing for Neil meant sitting on the back deck with a book and his air pods, listening to his Spotify playlist which included Billy Joel and Elton John.

This summer memorial services were held in Forty Fort, Penn., and Katonah.

Walsh felt very strongly about supporting the local community. Memorial contributions can be made to the Katonah Village Library, 26 Bedford Road, Katonah, NY 10536, or the Mianus River Gorge, 167 Mianus River Road, Bedford, NY 10506.
