Political disagreement turns physical
A married couple who argued about politics Nov. 24 brought police to their home in South Salem at 10:15 p.m., after their differing viewpoints caused the argument to become physical. The woman said she made a gesture with her middle finger and her husband responded by grabbing her by the throat. Neither party wished to press charges and agreed to stay away from each other for the remainder of the evening. Both told police they had no history of physical violence.
Monday, Nov. 18
8:06 a.m. — Police talked with a male reported as suspicious walking in the vicinity of the Thistlewaite School and Route 35. Police asked him if needed any help. There was a communication issue although he made it clear he would appreciate a ride to New Canaan, Conn. Police drove him to the state line at Pudding Hill Road.
9:15 a.m.— A woman with severe abdominal pain was taken from her home in South Salem to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided.
11:04 a.m. — A woman who dropped a credit card while walking her dog in the Lewisboro Town Park came to headquarters to claim it after a good Samaritan found the card and turned it into the police.
4:11 p.m. — Police investigated the possible violation of an order of protection at Four Winds Hospital, Cross River, in place for a female who had been assaulted by a former boyfriend. Hospital staff, including the female’s therapist, met police at the hospital to say the boyfriend has twice tried to contact the patient, going so far as to pretend to be her uncle in efforts to speak with her. Hospital staff advised there is a full stay away order prohibiting him from communicating with her. Police are investigating.
Tuesday, Nov. 19
7:15 a.m. — Police went to a home in Waccabuc for a reported overdose from an unknown substance. On their arrival, the subject was conscious but unresponsive. The person was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment.
9:03 a.m. — A teenage girl reported walking with a backpack on Route 35, Cross River, told police she missed her school bus and was heading to John Jay High School on foot. She was given a courtesy ride to the school and an officer walked her into the building.
4:25 p.m. — An open burn was reported on Post Office Road, Waccabuc, when no open burns are allowed. Police spoke with the manager of the property who said the fire was already out. They were advised not to start any others.
6:10 p.m. — An odor of smoke was reported on Kitchawan Road, South Salem. They went inside the home but found nothing burning or the smell of any smoke.
6:20 p.m. — A woman told police she took her foot off the brake while driving on Route 35, Cross River, causing her to rear-end the car in front of her at a traffic light, causing damage to both cars’ bumpers. Both parties are local residents and said they would handle how to pay for the repairs without police assistance.
6:45 p.m. — A driver struck a deer while driving on an unnamed street in Cross River. The man told police the deer ran into the road and there was no avoiding it.
Wednesday, Nov. 20
7:37 a.m. — A vehicle was impounded in South Salem after being stopped by police because the driver disobeyed a no left turn sign at the intersection of Route 35 and Ridgefield Avenue. The Toyota Rav4 had Connecticut plates but the driver showed police a suspended New York license. Police said the vehicle’s Connecticut registration had expired, and the operator was unable to show proof of insurance. The car was towed and impounded.
10:35 p.m. — Police were flagged down to come to Four Winds Hospital, Cross River, to assist with an unwanted person on the premises. A mother was there to pick up her child but staff felt reluctant to turn the child over to her because they felt the mother was unstable. When police asked her if there was another family member who could pick up her child, she began speaking irrationally and refused to speak to any doctor at the hospital, police said. Instead, she threatened to call Homeland Security with a tip about sex trafficking at which time she was informed the hospital would like her to leave, alone. She left as soon as she completed a call and no further action was taken.
1:15 p.m. — A woman was reported passed out in South Salem. Vista EMS and Westchester County EMS responded. When she became alert, she said she felt nauseated and dizzy and was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.
2:50 p.m. — K-9 Zane, in the company of his partner and handler from the Lewisboro Police Department, participated in a demonstration for the Animal Care Club at John Jay Middle School.
3:40 p.m. — A man fell at the post office on Main Street, South Salem. He sustained a cut to his lip and hand and bruising to his cheek. Lewisboro ambulance and Westchester EMS arrived but the man said he needed no further attention.
5:40 p.m. — A deer that was knocked to the ground after being struck by a car on Route 35 stood up and promptly ran into the mirror of another car, causing property damage. No information was provided about the deer.
Thursday, Nov. 21
4:13 p.m. — Police conducted a welfare check at a home in Goldens Bridge after an employer said the man hadn’t shown up to work for two days. When no one responded to a knock on the door, as the doors were unlocked, police went inside and found the man sleeping. He said he thought he was off work one of the days and said he’d called in sick for the other; his manager said he didn’t call in sick. Police left the residence.
8:15 p.m. — A man was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Vista EMS after he reported difficulty breathing and said his cough was getting worse. He said he was taking antibiotics but they weren’t helping.
Friday, Nov. 22
10:53 a.m. — Westchester EMS and Goldens Bridge firefighters took a man to Westchester Hospital after he complained of pain in his legs, arms and face after falling at his residence.
7:20 p.m. — A fire alarm was activated at the Meadow Pond Elementary School on Route 123, South Salem. Vista firefighters were on scene. School maintenance said there was a fault in the system and there was no fire.
Saturday, Nov. 23
6:40 p.m. — A driver traveling northbound on Mead Street hit a large rock, causing them to veer off the roadway. A report was made for insurance.
Sunday, Nov. 24
9:35 a.m. — Police went to a home in Goldens Bridge after the Westchester County Department of Correction requested a welfare check on an employee who failed to show up at work. At the residence they were met with a woman who said her brother-in-law was on vacation and not supposed to be at work. That information was relayed to the employer.
11:40 a.m. — A child playing in an organized flag football event on school property in Cross River sustained an injury to their left knee. They were taken to Westchester Medical Center by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
7:00 p.m. — Police and ambulance crew members went to a home in Goldens Bridge for a man experiencing trouble breathing. Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to Northern Westchester Hospital. Police noted large, dangerous dogs were on the premises creating a complicated scenario for the ambulance personnel.
