Dr. Donald P. Carone of South Salem who was the Fox Lane High school psychologist for 29 years, died Oct. 15, 2024, at Hope West Hospice Center in Grand Junction, Colo.
Born in White Plains on March 20, 1949, he was the son of Dominick and Angelina (Ascenzi) Carone.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Leslie (Koptiuch), his daughter, Lindsay, his son, Russell (Tara), two grandchildren, his sister JoAnn Scala (Peter), and other extended family members.
His family said he was happiest spending time outdoors, exercising, gardening, hiking locally and in the National Parks, sailing on Long Island Sound, fishing, and most especially, spending time with his children and grandchildren. Carone grew up in Bedford Hills, where he attended Bedford Central schools, graduated from Mercy College, earned two master’s degrees from the University of Bridgeport, and a Ph.D. in psychology from Hofstra University.
He worked as a school psychologist at Fox Lane High School where he was known as “Dr. Don” for 29 years, and also had a private practice helping children and young adults in Darien, Conn. His family said he was affable, warm, and magnetic, making people feel seen and understood both inside and out of his office.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m., at the South Salem Presbyterian Church, located at 111 Spring St., South Salem.
