Dems Luzio, McGuirk leading in Mount Kisco Village Board race
By MARTIN WILBUR
Mount Kisco Democrats Tom Luzio and Michael McGuirk were comfortably leading in the race for two Village Board seats overnight after tabulation of Election Day votes was delayed.
Luzio, the village’s Democratic Committee chair, appeared to be on his way to a second term on the board with 1,548 votes, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections. McGuirk, the Planning Board chair, was close behind with 1,529 votes, but well ahead of the independent MTK United candidates Sean Moran and Jennifer Vallejos, who collected 625 and 617 votes, respectively.

Election results were delayed Tuesday evening by voting machine malfunctions across the county throughout the day. While Mount Kisco is a strongly Democratic community, Luzio and McGuirk reflected on whether they were being helped by their party’s strong showing Tuesday up and down the ballot or if voters were concentrating on local issues.
Luzio said it would be to the village’s advantage if they are elected because they would be able to work more effectively with officials at higher levels of government.
“We know what that means to us in terms of grants, in terms of the things that are coming back to Mount Kisco, that have historically come back to Mount Kisco and still take care of all of the infrastructure and all the challenges that we have to face locally,” Luzio said.
Seven-term Trustee Karen Schleimer did not run for reelection after failing to receive the Democratic Party’s endorsement and deciding against mounting a primary challenge.
In a local proposition to increase the amount of compensation in the Length of Service Award Program for longtime Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps members, 91% of the reported vote was in favor.
