Car stolen while groceries unloaded
On Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 5:59 p.m., a resident of Rome Avenue, Bedford Hills, reported his 2008 Prius stolen from his driveway while he was unloading groceries and bringing them inside. He told police he’d posted the car on Facebook Marketplace for sale and was contacted by a potential buyer who didn’t show up at the appointed time scheduled earlier that day to look at the car. He did provide this person with his home address. He told police he saw an unknown man enter his car and drive off with it. Bedford detectives are investigating.
Monday, Jan. 27
7:14 a.m. — A resident of Bedford Village, male, 80, who was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters, told first responders he might be having a heart attack. The man reported that he was a longtime sufferer of atrial fibrillation.
7:18 p.m. — A resident of Harris Road, Katonah, reported a package stolen from their doorstep. Security cameras showed a man approaching the front door and taking the package. Police said there was a short time between the delivery of the package and it being stolen. Detectives have promising leads and are following up.
Tuesday, Jan.28
11:13 a.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 77, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC in a confused state, dehydrated, and experiencing low blood pressure after falling in her home.
11:36 a.m. — A resident of Bronxville, male, 47, was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after he slipped on ice and injured his ankle in Bedford Village.
Wednesday, Jan. 29
12:29 p.m. — A female, 72, who spoke of her desire to self-harm was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC. She told police she suffers from depression. No further information was provided.
4:00 p.m. — Police went to the location of the now-closed kennel on Bedford Road, Katonah, for a report of a suspicious person on the property. They spoke with a woman on the site with her two children who were feeding chickens in the barn when an unknown man entered the barn and began talking about the kennel. Police looked for the man with negative results.
7:08 p.m. — Police assisted a homeless man on Parkway, Katonah, who requested help finding shelter. He was given a courtesy ride to Mount Kisco where he would be picked up by a homeless advocate and escorted to a church shelter.
7:23 p.m. — Two arguing patrons brought police to a restaurant in the Katonah Shopping Center on Bedford Road, Katonah. Police spoke to a man and his daughter in the parking lot; he said he’d gotten into a verbal dispute with another patron who spoke to him in what he thought was a discriminatory manner. Police spoke with the other party who said this man was talking loudly on his phone and he’d asked him to speak quietly which caused the argument. The restaurant owner suggested the caller and his daughter get their food to go. Police advised both parties to leave each other alone.
Thursday, Jan. 30
1:19 p.m. — Two cars collided at Depot Plaza, Bedford Hills, when one car attempted to back into a parking space and was rear-ended by another car. No significant damage was incurred to either vehicle and neither party requested an accident report. They said they would exchange information and work it out without police help.
1:26 p.m. — A resident of Ambler Drive, Bedford, reported her daughter’s Jeep was rummaged a week earlier when other vehicles were stolen or interfered with in her neighborhood. She said nothing was stolen but wanted the incident documented.
Friday, Jan. 31
1:40 p.m. — A New York state domestic incident report was completed for a woman who came to headquarters to report a threatening phone call she received from her former boyfriend, a Bedford Hills resident. She said he threatened to harm her and her parents but called back the next day to apologize. She told police she doesn’t believe he would actually cause physical harm. Police counseled her on how to get an order of protection.
3:46 p.m. — Police went to a residence on Crusher Road, Bedford, for a report of a missing elderly woman with dementia. They spoke with the caregiver who said she was occupied when she realized she hadn’t seen the woman for a while and located an open door leading to the garage that is usually secured. Police searched the residence and the property and the adjacent neighborhood and Bedford firefighters joined the search. A fire department member said he’d seen her two hours earlier on the Village Green. Well into the search, a Mount Kisco taxi driver delivered the woman to her home. He’d been summoned by a business owner on the Village Green who recognized the woman, called a cab, and sent her home. The caregiver said the woman was fine and the woman told police she didn’t need medical attention or further assistance.
10:04 p.m. — A man came to headquarters to report possible abuse from his mother, now 59, that happened 23 years earlier when the family lived in Bedford. He was unable to recall the precise address but said it was within walking distance to St. Patrick’s church. He said he had no recollection of the events until he was in therapy in his 20s. Police said from his report they could not discern any criminal behavior and there was nothing actionable for them to respond to.
Saturday, Feb. 1
1:54 p.m. — Police went to a car wash on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, after a woman said she’s been a customer for five years but has a complaint about her contract services. The manager of the car wash said she was irate but he was unable to cancel her contract from his end and she would have to do it by going on the website. Police offered to assist her with that and she left.
8:50 p.m. — A female, 63, refused medical attention after falling multiple times in her Katonah home. Police spoke with her daughter, who called for help, who said her mother seemed less alert. She was evaluated by KBHVAC medics who couldn’t find any reason for transport. No further information was provided.
Sunday, Feb. 2
1:27 a.m. — A caller at the Chestnut Ridge Racquet Club on Snyders Hill Road, Bedford, reported an unknown man in a black car hanging out in the parking lot. Police spoke to the man who said he’d been participating in a tournament and when he returned to his car, discovered it was inoperative and he was waiting for an Uber.
2:01 a.m. — A male, 59, was transported from his home in Katonah for severe stomach pain. On police arrival, he was in the care of a medic. He was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC.
9:37 a.m. — A fire that began in a chicken coop in Bedford quickly spread to an adjacent apartment building. One resident, male, 26, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters for smoke inhalation. Police said the fire was caused by a heat lamp that fell into the straw. The cause and origin team was on scene as were police and Bedford firefighters. The building department was notified. Police say there was no report on the chickens.
1:50 p.m. — A Bedford Village landlord came to headquarters to request a report be made of an unpleasant encounter. He said he was trying to retrieve keys to a business on his property, now closed. He was met by the former tenant’s attorney who indicated he would hand over the keys if any litigation would be dropped. The landlord did not agree and walked to his car and was approached by the attorney who knocked on his car window. The landlord drove away and came to headquarters to have the incident documented.
