Contempt charge through parenting app
A resident of Bedford, male, 52, who also has addresses in Katonah and Manhattan, was arrested Monday, Nov. 18, at 3:30 p.m., when he turned himself in to police headquarters in the company of his attorney. He was charged with criminal contempt and disobeying a court order for contacting his ex-wife, a Bedford resident, via a co-parenting app called OurFamilyWizard. The app is designed to be used by parents who have been court ordered to only communicate with each other about their shared children. The complainant told police he used the app to contact her but not about the children on Oct. 8, violating the court order. Police say they’d reached out to him several times to turn himself in, but only came to headquarters after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was processed and arraigned and released on his own recognizance, and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18.
Arguing couple throw water on each other
Police went to a residence in Katonah, Monday, Nov. 11, at 9:25 p.m., for a domestic argument between a couple getting divorced. They both told the police they threw water on each other. The husband said he’d stay in the basement for the night.
Monday Nov. 11
8:28 a.m. — A raccoon was reported as stuck in a dumpster behind a business on the Village Green, Bedford. A police officer used a pallet to create a ladder for the raccoon to climb out. The raccoon used the pallet as a staircase to exit and run off.
9:10 a.m. — A woman reported sleeping in her car parked on Haines Road, Bedford Hills, awakened when an officer knocked on her window to ask how she was. She said she was OK, just tired from driving and needed a break. A wise and safe decision, police said. No further action was taken.
9:24 a.m. — A resident of Cherry Street, Bedford Hills, reported receiving threats from a relative on Instagram. She said her cousin, who has a history of mental illness and incarceration, was threatening to take some action that was not articulated in the report. Police advised her to block him and a report was made for documentation.
Tuesday Nov 12
5:39 a.m. — A woman reported sleeping on the stairs at the Bedford Hills train station identified herself to the police and said she was waiting for the train. She showed the officer her ticket and said it was her plan to head south to a shelter. No further action was taken. At 8:42 a.m., the woman, now wearing a blanket, was reported at the Bedford Hills train station. She told the officer she was homeless but not in need of assistance. She declined help and said she would get on a train soon.
11:07 a.m. — A resident of Mount Holly Road, Katonah, reported that a neighbor’s dogs were on her property while being exercised on the adjacent Mount Holly Preserve sanctuary property; this appears to be an ongoing issue. The owner of the dogs told the dog control officer she will try to keep her dogs on the leash when near the caller’s property.
Wednesday Nov. 13
12:59 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, 75, was taken from his home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters to be treated for intoxication after his wife reported he’d been drinking steadily for a week and was very sick.
6:01 p.m. — A resident of South Beechwood Road, Bedford Hills, reported a kitten stuck in a sewer drain. Police arrived and the kitten was rescued without incident.
6:40 p.m. — Police intervened at a residence on Adams Street, Bedford Hills, for an argument between a mother and her adult daughter. The mom told police her daughter drives too fast and she took away the car keys. Police reminded her that her daughter is of legal age to drive, has a valid license and owns the car. The daughter told police she would drive carefully and go to a hotel for the night. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
Thursday, Nov 14
2:24 p.m. — A pharmacy owner in Katonah reported a man who entered his business with another man became upset and physical about his need to use the bathroom. The owner was in the bathroom when this individual began knocking violently on the door. He was informed it was an employee’s only bathroom but the knocker was insistent. The pharmacy owner exited the bathroom and ushered the man out of the business. A few minutes later the man returned and the two had physical contact. There was some pushing and shoving and the owner said he pushed the man out. As that individual was no longer on scene, police looked for him with negative results. A report was made to document the incident.
3:13 p.m. — Police went to a location on Cantitoe Road, Katonah, after a Jeep struck a mailbox. Both the homeowner and the driver were on scene. They decided they did not need a police report and would coordinate information to proceed with repairing the mailbox. Police helped them facilitate an information exchange.
Friday Nov. 15
11:11 a.m. — A resident of Katonah, male, in his 40s, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after telling police he drank a bottle of Purell hand sanitizer. Police say he was also highly intoxicated. They were at the residence in response to a 911 call made by his girlfriend after a physical argument. She told police they argued after she threatened to call his parents to say he wasn’t going to his medical appointments or taking his medication. They scuffled when he grabbed her phone and they both fell to the floor. After he was taken from the residence, police gave her a domestic violence hotline number and other pertinent information. She said she wasn’t injured from the fall and refused medical assistance.
4:04 p.m. — A deer reported injured on Lakeside Drive, Katonah, was dead on police arrival. Police notified the highway department for removal.
Saturday, Nov. 16
1:33 a.m. — A resident of Katonah, female, 36, was transported from her home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after allegedly overdosing on an unknown substance. She was conscious but disoriented on police arrival. Westchester EMS was also on scene. No further information was provided.
2:03 p.m. — A resident of Bedford reported unwanted texts from his former girlfriend, a resident of Stamford, Conn. He told police her mother and brother also text him. He said she’s threatened to contact his college to say he plagiarized his schoolwork and to insist he take an HIV test. He told police he’s blocked all their numbers and agreed to take the test and drop the results off to her just to get her to quit bothering him. He’s blocked all their numbers and requested only documentation of the incidents.
3:31 p.m. — A resident of Dwight Lane, Bedford Hills, female, 51, asked for police assistance when her recently deceased partner’s two nieces came to the home. She said unless they are in the company of an attorney, she doesn’t want them there. Police spoke to the nieces who said they are the trustees for the man’s estate and were requesting tax paperwork. She gave the requested paperwork to the police who gave it to the nieces. While the officer was still on scene, the resident became ill and complained of shortness of breath and chest pain. She was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Police advised the nieces that any issues with their uncle’s partner is a civil matter.
Sunday, Nov. 17
12:59 a.m. — A resident of Cartway Lane West, Bedford, reported a suspicious silver SUV and a man with a flashlight pulling into their driveway. Police looked for the man with negative results. The complainant called the police shortly after to say it was a package delivery.
1:17 a.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, 33, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after his friend called 911 with concerns he might self-harm. On police arrival, the man told police he wasn’t serious and was joking about suicide, but agreed to go to the hospital for evaluation.
