Land Conservancy promotes Dave Prosser

The Pound Ridge Land Conservancy has announced the promotion of Dave Prosser to director of land stewardship.

Since joining the PRLC in April 2023, Prosser has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to PRLC’s work in land conservation and environmental education, the group said.

In his new position, Prosser will lead stewardship and grant writing for PRLC, manage all volunteer programs, and oversee the care and maintenance of 20 preserves with over 12 miles of trails.

“In less than two years with PRLC, Dave has grown tremendously in the scope of his work he is doing for us as he extends his already-strong skill set with experience in Pound Ridge,” said Jack Wilson, president of the group’s board. “We rely on Dave’s leadership and judgment in areas far beyond his initial responsibilities and we want his title to reflect the expansion of his role with PRLC.”

Prosser is enthusiastic about his new role.

“I am honored to step into this leadership position and am eager to continue working with our dedicated board and the community to promote environmental stewardship and land conservation,” he said.

The promotion comes as the land conservancy celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of land preservation and environmental advocacy.

It was a great day for skiing and the local teams from Fox Lane and John Jay made the most of it heading up to Catamount Mountain in the Berkshires on Jan. 29, for slalom and giant slalom races.

All the high school ski teams from Section 1 have had a rough year with no skiing at Thunder Ridge, forcing them to make long trips to Southington Mountain in Connecticut, so to have a good day with good weather at Catamount was an exciting day and the skiers made the most of the opportunity.

Fox Lane’s Brynn Anthony enjoyed it most of all as she won both women’s races, taking first in the giant slalom with a time of 27.1 and then first in the slalom with a time of 41.84.

“Brynn had a great day, she actually prefers giant slalom, she races out of Hunter Mountain and she does better on steeper, icy mountains,” Fox Lane coach Jessica Alexander said of her daughter.

It was a good day overall as a team for John Jay as the Wolves won all four races in the team standings.

“The race at Catamount went really well overall and it was definitely a solid day for us,” said John Jay coach Paul Crivelli. “We had a strong showing, both the boys and girls had multiple skiers in the top 10, so it was a great result across the board.”

In the boys competition, it was the brothers from John Jay and the brothers from Fox Lane in control with James and Porter Bysshe leading the way for the Wolves and John and Chase Hamilton leading the Foxes.

The John Jay boys were first in the giant slalom team standings with a score of 218.75. Porter Bysshe finished first at 26.82, and his brother James was second at 27.37. Sean O’Meara was fifth, Matt Wolfe was ninth and Whitt Degenhardt was 19th to round out the top five for the team score.

In slalom, John Jay won as a team with a combined time of 141.77. James Bysshe led the way for the Wolves finishing second overall, Porter Bysshe was right behind in third, O’Meara in seventh, Wolfe in 12th, and Degenhardt 18th.

“The Bysshe brothers are skiing exceptionally well this year, both of them have been consistent top performers,” Crivelli “For the girls team it has been a real team effort. A solid group of girls who are consistently pushing each other and getting results.”

Fox Lane senior John Hamilton was second in the ski meister standings last year at the Section 1 finals and he is having another big season this year. John was first in the boys slalom race with a time of 37.99, and his brother Chase was fourth. Nathan Fishkind was 19th and Will Gilligan 26th.

John Hamilton finished third in the giant slalom with a time of 27.54 on his first run, but there was a mishap in timing and he didn’t get a second run. Chase was eighth in giant slalom, and Fishkind was 25th overall for the Foxes.

“John had won every race this year, and he was first in giant slalom at Mohawk, but he didn’t get the chance for a second run and he usually gets better with each run,” Alexander said of Hamilton. “Chase had a personal best in the slalom, and both Nathan and Will have pulled it together.”

In the girls giant slalom, Brynn Anthony was first with her best time of 27.10, and Parker Altman was 18th for Fox Lane.

John Jay had four girls finish in the top 10 and six in the top 20 to win the team race with a combined time of 239.8. Mia Bourla led the way in fourth place, with Willow Lutz in sixth place, followed by Gemma DelRosso in seventh and Miriam DiPaolo in eighth for the Wolves. Isabella Dziedzic rounded out the top five for the team scoring with her 12th place finish, and Charlotte Martin was 16th.

In slalom, Anthony was first with a time of 41.84, and Altman was 17th overall. John Jay was led by Lutz in fifth place with Bourla right behind in sixth. DiPaola was eighth, DelRosso was ninth, and Dziedzic was 13th for the Wolves to combine for a time of 148.7 to finish first as a team.
