University teams beckon elite athletes from John Jay and Fox Lane

Local high schools appear blessed with dozens of great athletes and colleges and universities have taken notice. After enjoying success in interscholastic athletics at the high school level, several Fox Lane and John Jay graduates in the Class of 2026 will be moving on to compete at the collegiate level this fall.
Fox Lane is sending off a baker's dozen competitors
From Fox Lane High School, a total of 13 Foxes have signed on to compete at the collegiate level at their respective choices to continue their education.
At the Division 1 level, four athletes from Fox Lane will be competing at the top level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cora Moore will move on after four years of varsity lacrosse at Fox Lane to play Division 1 women’s lacrosse at Jacksonville University in Florida.
Ryan Loveless will compete in swimming at the College of Holy Cross, and diver Sophia Coppola will be competing in the pool at Providence College.
Marc Desforges will be running track and field and cross-country at Lehigh University.
At the Division 3 level, Arthur Shevick moves on after four years of varsity basketball at Fox Lane to play on the hardwood at Vassar College.
In women’s basketball, Riley New will be playing at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania.
Football captain Joe Cerone will be competing on the gridiron at Bates College in Maine.
After a five-year varsity career at Fox Lane, Michaela Kaltsas will be playing women’s lacrosse at Williams College.
Joe Racanelli will be playing men’s volleyball at Emmanuel College.
Mary Frey will be on the swim and dive team at SUNY New Paltz.
A pair of Fox Lane men’s soccer players will be competing in college with Peter Vinanzaca competing at Lehman College and Gavin Morales playing at SUNY Adirondack.
John Jay athletes heading to compete in college
At John Jay, a pair of All-Americans will be moving on to compete in Division 1.
Blake O’Callaghan, an All-American goalie, five-year varsity player and school record holder in career saves, will play lacrosse at Princeton University.
Sloan Wasserman, an All-American in track and field and six-time New York State champion in her senior year, will be running cross-country and track and field at Boston College.
Valerie Shue will be playing Division 1 women’s tennis at Texas Tech University. Shue competed for the John McEnroe Tennis Academy and was ranked as high as No. 8 in the nation, No. 1 in the Eastern Section and No. 1 in New York state.
Julianna Field will be competing in fencing at Cornell University.
Several John Jay teammates will be moving on to compete at the next level.
In baseball, Jackson Moreo will be playing at Trinity College and Jacob Storch will be on the diamond at Rochester Institute of Technology.
A pair of Wolves will be competing in women’s soccer with goalie Brooke Epstein playing at Ithaca College, and John Jay teammate Myla Schneider playing soccer at Emory & Henry University in Virginia.
In addition to O’Callaghan, fellow John Jay lacrosse captains and teammates moving on to compete in college include Dino Rajamani at Connecticut College, and Peter Hill at Salve Regina University.
Riley Buckingham will be competing on the court in volleyball at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.
