David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community. 

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.


Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

Pound Ridge Police Report Dec. 10-15

Tuesday, Dec. 10

5:05 p.m. — A two-car collision on Westchester Avenue resulted in no injuries and no tow. 


Wednesday, Dec. 11

12:10 p.m. — A summons was issued to a driver who failed to stop for a stop sign on Westchester Avenue. 

5:40 p.m. — Old Pound Ridge Road was reported to be blocked by a fallen tree, obstructing traffic. After confirming the obstruction, police notified the highway department. 

8:40 p.m. — A woman was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided.

10:13 p.m. — A caller reported Old Stone Hill Road was blocked by a fallen tree. Police patrolled the location and saw the road was passable. The highway department was notified. 


Thursday, Dec. 12

6:45 a.m. — Multiple traffic summonses were issued to drivers traveling on Westchester Avenue: two for speeding (respectively driving 54 mph in a 30-mph zone, and driving 49 mph in a 30-mph zone); and one for operating without a valid license. 

4:50 p.m. — Traffic summonses were issued to drivers traveling on Pound Ridge Road: one for an equipment violation; and one for an invalid license. 

7:00 p.m. — Two summonses were issued to a driver traveling on Stone Hill Road: one for unsafe passing on the left; and the second for unreasonable and imprudent speeding. 

8:40 p.m. — A woman was transported by an unidentified ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. No further information was provided.


Friday, Dec, 13

6:30  p.m. — Four traffic summonses were issued to drivers traveling on Westchester Avenue: three were speeding tickets; and one was for driving without a valid license. 


Saturday, Dec. 14

9:50 a.m. — A driver was issued a ticket for using their cellphone while operating a car on Westchester Avenue. 

6:15 p.m. — A Hack Green Road caller reported a dog barking outside for a long time. Police came by and saw a few dogs who had access to a porch via a doggy door. The resident was not at home and the dogs were barking. The dog control officer was notified for follow up. 


Sunday, Dec. 15

10:00 a.m. — Police issued six summonses to a driver traveling on Long Ridge Road: one for cellphone use; one for equipment violation (tinted windows); one for operating with improper plates; one was failing to attach a necessary sticker; one for not having a license plate; and one for operating without an inspection ticket. 

8:49 p.m. — A High Ridge Road caller reported a suspicious black car parked in the roadway. Police contacted the operator who provided their ID. Police say the operator works for a ride-share company and was waiting for a pick up. 

9:44 p.m. — A drone was reported by a High Cliff Terrace resident. Police checked the area with negative results.
