Police Reports — Sept. 7 - 13

BEDFORD

Juvenile arrested, charged with assault 

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6:32 p.m., a male, 17, was arrested on Old Post Road, Bedford, charged with third-degree assault. Police said he is the resident of a group home and punched another resident, resulting in bruising and bleeding. The victim wished to press charges and the defendant was transported to police headquarters where he was brought to the juvenile interview room and family court work was completed. He was released to staff at the residence and plans were put in place to keep the victim and the defendant separated. The injured resident was taken by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. The defendant was to appear in court Sept. 15. 

Monday, Sept. 7 

2:10 p.m. — A caller on Nottingham Road, Bedford Hills, reported a person behaving suspiciously, entering and exiting a nearby wooded area. Police searched the vicinity without result.  

7:54 p.m. — Police responded to a residence in Bedford Hills for a report of an injured child. On arrival they spoke to the mother who said her daughter, 3, fell and hit her head. Police observed a superficial abrasion and a cold pack was provided. The mother declined further attention and said she would take her child to a hospital.  

Tuesday, Sept. 8

12:46 p.m. — A Katonah woman, 96, was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital after she fell on the front steps of the Bedford Police Department on Bedford Road, injuring her head. 

4:41 p.m. — A caller in Katonah reported a suspicious person riding a bicycle back and forth in front of their home. Police looked for the cyclist without success.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

11:13 a.m. — A person came to headquarters to report two checks they wrote in August and deposited in a post office service box in Bedford Hills were stolen by an unknown party and falsely deposited. They are working with their bank to get their money refunded. A report was made for documentation.  

3:53 p.m. — A Katonah resident came to headquarters to report a 1979 Ford F250 truck they purchased from a seller online resulted in fraud. After a price was agreed on, the victim wired money to what they believed was a legitimate auction site. They were told by the seller the truck would be delivered to them in late August. When it didn’t arrive, their attempts to contact the seller got no response. Police said an imitation auction site had been used.  

Thursday, Sept. 10

3:48 p.m. —  Police were called to a tow company in Bedford Hills after a customer came in to retrieve their vehicle which was impounded by Westchester County Police. When the customer was told they needed to show paperwork from that department to get their vehicle, they became irate and threatened to come back with friends to correct the situation. Bedford Police arrived and told the customer to contact Westchester County Police to obtain a release form. 

Friday, Sept. 11

8:45 a.m. — A suspicious vehicle was reported on West Patent Road, Bedford Hills. Police located the blue Ford Bronco with New Jersey plates on Springhurst and Broad Brook roads; the operator said he was a Verizon employee scanning checkpoints.  

4:38 p.m. — Police looked for a sick coyote reported in the vicinity of Cherry Street and Quicks Lane in Katonah. They didn’t find it.  

Saturday, Sept. 12

10:42 a.m. — Two neighbors who don’t get along brought police to a multiple dwelling residence on Nottingham Road, Bedford Hills. There were complaints regarding parking and littering. On this date one party made an obscene gesture and got in the other party’s face and then declined to come to the door when police arrived to discuss the matter. The incident is under investigation.  

10:52 a.m. — An injured domestic cat was reported on Cherry Street; police brought it to a veterinary center in hopes of identifying it via chip. The owner was successfully contacted and came to the veterinary office to discuss treatment.

Sunday, Sept. 13

3:14 a.m. — A caller said two men acting suspiciously in a driveway on McClain Street in Bedford Hills sprinted back to their car and sped off when they saw they were being watched. Police looked for the described vehicle without success.   

10:13 a.m. — A portion of Clinton and Cantitoe roads was taped off awaiting a utility after police saw burning wires hanging into the roadway.   

10:42 a.m. — A Post Road resident reported a burning odor in the house after a power surge. Bedford firefighters arrived and said there were no active hazards.  

3:27 p.m. — A caller on The Farms Road, Bedford, reported a fallen wasp’s nest near their property. The highway department was notified to remove it. 

LEWISBORO

Monday, Sept. 7 

12:25 p.m. — Police responded to a two-car collision on Route 35 in Cross River when a driver traveling eastbound crossed the double yellow line turning out of a driveway onto the highway and was struck from behind by another driver traveling westbound who said they were unable to stop in time. No injuries were reported. Damage was sustained to the first vehicle. Neither vehicle required tow. 

Tuesday, Sept. 8 

9:37 a.m. — An officer went to an address in South Salem to serve paperwork to the resident regarding an order of protection. The person who answered the door said that the party being served doesn’t live there and they’d never heard of them.  

2:05 p.m. — A delivery driver whose vehicle got stuck in mud at a residence on Old Pond Road, Waccabuc, required a tow to get out. Police attempted to let the homeowner know what was happening, but were unable to make contact. 

4:35 p.m. — A patron of Cameron’s Deli in Cross River came to the police station to say while he was inside the store, someone threw eggs at his car. A deli employee said he’d just sold a carton of eggs to someone. The complainant washed the egg off but said their car has permanent damage to the paint. Police are investigating. 

5:30 p.m. — An order of protection was successfully served to a resident on Route 123 without incident. 

Wednesday, Sept. 9 

8:35 a.m. — An unconscious man was reported in the parking lot of the Acme Market in Goldens Bridge. A medic arrived on scene and told police the man was resting and there was no emergency. 

11:44 a.m. — Police went to Glen Drive, South Salem, regarding a complaint about protected wetlands. They spoke with a resident who said his neighbor’s tree work was encroaching onto his property. The building inspector arrived on scene. Based on observation and maps of the area, a cease-work order was given and all equipment removed. The homeowner involved was informed of violations committed. 

5:30 p.m. — Harassment was reported at a residence in Pound Ridge. The report, completed at 7:46 p.m., was completely redacted. No further information was available.

Thursday, Sept. 10

4:40 p.m. — A young child was reported sweating and locked in a vehicle at a playground in Katonah. A window was broken and the child was removed from the car.. 

8:56 p.m. — Suspicious activity was reported on Spring Street, South Salem. Police saw a woman parked on the road shoulder rummaging through a large number of items inside her car. She said she lived with her mother on Spring Street but was unable to provide proof of registration or insurance for her car. Her mother arrived on scene and was irate. She said her daughter did not live with her. The daughter was told the car would be towed if it wasn’t moved onto her mother’s driveway, which it soon was. 

Friday, Sept. 11

11:25 a.m. — A male, age unknown, who fell while riding his bike on Waccabuc Road and was experiencing seizures was taken to Danbury Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance. 

Saturday, Sept. 12

4:30 p.m. — Traffic control was provided at the Mead Memorial Chapel for a wedding event. 

4:30 p.m. — Police provided traffic control and a presence at a Rosh Hashanah event held at the Town Park. The event was concluded without incident. 

Sunday, Sept. 13

1:40 p.m. — A large dog found on Mead Street wearing a blue bow tie collar but no other identification was scanned for a chip. The individual who found the dog agreed to care for it until its owner was located. 

2:10 p.m. — A South Salem resident reported her mailbox was damaged by an Amazon driver delivering a package. She claimed $1,000 of damage although it was unclear from her security video if the driver struck her mailbox. Police arrived and examined the mailbox which was fully standing up. They said the bottom 2 inches were lifted. Police are investigating. 

5:30 p.m. — A young child was reported hitchhiking on Route 35 at the same time Four Winds Hospital reported a 13-year-old had fled the hospital. The child was located near Old Shop Road and was transported back to the hospital and turned over to staff.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

8:29 a.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was issued a ticket for operating a vehicle while using an electronic device.  

11:23 a.m. — A speeder was pulled over and ticketed on Westchester Avenue for going 51 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

12:54 p.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for using an electronic device while behind the wheel. 

4:16 p.m. — A loose dog reported on Hack Green Road was returned.

Thursday, Sept. 10

7:00 a.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for doing 54 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

7:46 a.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for doing 56 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

11:16 a.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for using an electronic device while behind the wheel. 

12:20 p.m. — A woman was taken by ambulance from her White Birch Road South residence to Northern Westchester Hospital. 

Friday, Sept. 11

10:35 a.m. — A pair of swimming bears were reported by a caller on Fancher Road who thought they went to the bottom of the pool and didn’t come back up. Police on arrival saw a lot of leaves at the bottom of the pool. Where the bears were was unclear. 

4:40 p.m. — Wires were reported down by a caller on Kinnicut Road East. The utility was notified.  

12:37 p.m. — A man was taken by ambulance from Old Stone Hill Road home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Vista ambulance.  

10 p.m. — Police spoke with the operator of a vehicle reported suspicious on Westchester Avenue. Police said there was nothing suspicious and the car left soon after.  

Saturday, Sept. 12

8:19 a.m. —A speeder on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for doing 53 mph in a 30-mph zone.  

8:34 a.m. — A speeder on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for doing 57 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

11:07 a.m. — A man was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS from an address on Pine Brook Road. 

12:35 p.m. — A driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.  

1:00 p.m. — A person was ticketed for leaving the scene of a property damage collision they were involved in on Westchester Avenue. 

6:30 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue who failed to stop for a stop sign was ticketed. 

7:20 p.m. — A caller on Deer Field Road reported a suspicious vehicle illegally parked. Police said the parking was legal and nothing suspicious.  

Sunday, Sept. 13

6:36 p.m. — A commercial driver traveling on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for an equipment violation. Police said their windshield was not transparent. 

7:07 p.m. — A driver speeding on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for doing 50 mph in a 30-mph zone. 

7:49 p.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.
