BEDFORD
Was it just the wind in the willows?
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10:42 a.m., police searched a wooded area on Upper Hook Road in Bedford Village after a caller said she was walking her dog in the area and heard what sounded like a baby crying in the woods. No baby was found but police said the sound of trees rubbing against one another in the wind did sound like a baby crying.
Monday, Sept. 29
2:35 p.m. — A loss prevention officer at Kohl’s on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, reported a man dressed in black stealing clothing. The man could be seen on camera putting on socks, sneakers, a shirt and a belt he’d helped himself to and then leaving the store without paying. Police said Kohl’s declined prosecution because the value of the stolen items was relatively minor. The man, in his 20s from Mount Kisco, was identified by police and told not to come back.
3:10 p.m. — A Bedford man reported an unknown party opened a Home Depot account in his name; American Express advised him two credit inquiries were made under his name. He told police he received a Home Depot card in the mail with a hefty bill. He contacted the company who told him he would not be responsible for paying it. A police report was made for documentation.
4:19 p.m. — A female resident at Fellowship Hall in Bedford Hills reported receiving unwanted letters from a male resident, who has since moved to another address, who said “he misses her” and keeps inviting her to dinner. Police contacted the letter writer and told him his interest was not returned and to stop contacting the woman.
4:52 p.m. — A caller on Christopher Road, Bedford, reported a rooster on her property. She said it’s not the first time. The rooster’s owner was contacted and said he’d keep the rooster in its coop.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
12:35 p.m. — A cellphone was reported lost at the Community Center of Northern Westchester’s temporary location on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, by its owner who said they’d been there shopping. Multiple people searched for the phone but didn’t find it. A report was made for documentation.
2:35 p.m. — A Bedford Hills woman reported fraudulent phone and bank accounts were opened in her name. She said she doesn’t have an account with that phone carrier and has never done business with that particular bank. She was provided with identity theft forms. A report was made for documentation.
Wednesday, Oct. 1
6:43 p.m. — A CVS employee in Bedford Hills reported a man who stole two boxes of allergy medication and a box of another medication and left the store on foot without paying. A report was made for documentation.
7:11 p.m. — Police went to the vicinity of the Bedford Hills train station after a caller reported a child alone. They spoke with a girl, 10, who said she’d been dropped off by her babysitter to attend a dance class but there was no class. The babysitter was contacted and came to collect the child.
7:27 p.m. — A Bedford Hills homeowner reported cars and people on his property and strangers in his shed. Police went to the address (the homeowner wasn’t there) and spoke with the man’s landscaper who said he was retrieving his tools he’d left in the shed. The homeowner was contacted and said that sounded right. The landscaper was advised to let the homeowner know when he was coming to the property and not to just show up unannounced.
9:58 p.m. — Police went to a church in Bedford Village after clergy reported a strange man in the basement. On arrival, they heard the clergy yelling and saw a man running. The man was stopped; he told police he’d been walking past the church earlier in the evening and a woman (not identified) told him it was OK if he slept inside for the night. The clergy told police they wanted him to leave. Police escorted him out of the building and told him he would have to find another place to sleep.
Thursday, Oct. 2
8:00 p.m. — A wallet found at the Bedford Hills train station was turned over to police by a citizen who didn’t want to be identified. Police located its owner and the wallet was returned.
Friday, Oct. 3
7:27 a.m. — A Bedford Hills woman, 78, was aided by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after falling out of bed. She told police she’d been on the floor for some time. A small laceration to her leg was attended to. She refused further medical attention.
1:26 p.m. — A concerned neighbor on Harris Road, Bedford Hills, reported he hadn’t seen his elderly neighbor in awhile and her cars hadn’t moved. Police made multiple attempts to contact her by phone. She called back to say she was fine and on vacation.
2:49 p.m. — Police intervened in a domestic situation regarding a custody exchange with a divorcing couple in Bedford. The husband said he wanted police to be present as he and his soon-to-be-ex-wife had argued on the phone earlier over a diaper bag. An officer was present during the exchange which was conducted without incident.
Saturday, Oct. 4
9:10 p.m. — An unknown party reported possible underage drinking at a residence on Brundidge Ridge Road, Bedford. Police went to the home and observed multiple teens being dropped off. The homeowner, who was not on scene, was contacted. He denied knowledge that his daughter had invited friends over and alcohol was involved. Police said he was uncooperative. The daughter answered the door and allowed police in. A large number of youths were inside the house and open containers of alcohol were observed. Pound Ridge Police were contacted to send a unit to assist. Police identified every teen and their parents were contacted to pick them up. The homeowner was issued a citation for unlawful consumption of alcohol by minors and is to appear in court Oct. 15.
Sunday, Oct. 5
2:17 a.m. — Police went to a home in Bedford after receiving a report from Greenwich Police about a missing person who might be at the address. Police knocked on the door but there was no response. No further information was provided.
2:10 p.m. — Bedford Village firefighters and police responded to a report of a chimney fire in Bedford. The fire was extinguished. No injuries or damage to the home was reported.
3:13 p.m. — A female, 49, from Mount Kisco, was released to her husband after a caller reported a white 2025 Tesla driving erratically on Cherry Street in the vicinity of Nottingham Road, Bedford Hills. Police spoke to the operator who appeared to be in an altered mental state. Her husband arrived; he said he’d been out looking for her. He told the police she recently had a stroke and has a history of seizures.
6:02 p.m. — A female, 45, from Bedford, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after sustaining a significant cut to her left thumb. It was unclear how she was injured.
LEWISBORO
Monday, Sept. 29
7:35 a.m. — A South Salem woman was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps after falling in the shower. Police say she suffered a compound fracture to her ankle.
2:33 p.m. — A Waccabuc man came to headquarters to report his wallet lost; he said his young son had been playing with it inside the house. Sensitive ID for his work was among the cards lost. He said he already replaced his driver’s license and spent three weeks looking for the wallet without finding it. Police provided him with paperwork to provide his work.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
1:48 p.m. — A South Salem woman, age and condition unknown, was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Vista firefighters.
8:09 p.m. — Traffic was disrupted on Route 35 east of Bisbee Lane after a tractor-trailer became disabled in the roadway. Due to the westbound lane being blocked, police assisted with traffic control until the trailer could be moved.
Wednesday, Oct. 1
11:00 a.m. — A pressure washer being used inside a produce store in Oak Ridge Commons, South Salem, was determined to be the source of an odor of gas being reported by the manager of the nearby post office. Firefighters discovered a high reading of carbon monoxide and the building was vented. A stop work order was issued to the produce business and the manager was told that no one could shop there until the building was deemed safe.
2:05 p.m. — A South Salem child and their mother were taken to Norwalk Hospital after the child fell at home and hit their head.
7:20 p.m. — ATVs were reported riding on the street in the vicinity of Meadow Street, Goldens Bridge. They were also reported on Department of Environmental Conservation property. Police couldn’t locate them.
Thursday, Oct. 2
7:00 a.m. — A driver traveling southbound on Route 123 reported striking a deer that entered the roadway about a quarter-mile south of Shady Lane. The car’s radiator was broken and the vehicle required a tow. No one was injured. No mention was made of the deer.
9:30 a.m. — A malfunctioning furnace brought police to a home on Ridgeland Road, South Salem. The caller reported smoke inside the house. Vista and South Salem firefighters responded. The oil burner company was contacted. Firefighters thought the problem was caused by material accidentally left inside the unit when it was installed.
11:15 a.m. — A driver was stopped by police in Cross River on Route 35 after they saw serious front-end damage on a Ford Fusion. The passenger, it was noted, was not wearing a seat belt. The driver had no license but provided information that led police to believe the plate belonged on another vehicle. The driver was taken to headquarters and issued multiple tickets for improper plates, unlicensed operation, unregistered vehicle and operating without insurance. This individual is set to appear in court Oct. 27.
4:30 p.m. — A South Salem resident came to headquarters to report her Wells Fargo debit card was attempted to be used (and was declined) at Best Buy, Target and Publix stores. Her bank said someone attempted to access her checking account. There were no successful withdrawals. She is working with her bank’s fraud department.
Friday, Oct. 3
5:32 p.m. — A speeding driver with a Connecticut learners permit was stopped by police on Mead Street, Waccabuc. A passenger possessed a valid driver’s license. The car’s registration came back to an expired registration out of Los Angeles, Calif. The car was towed to impound and the occupants given a courtesy ride to the Mobil station.
7:15 p.m. — A South Salem man reported about $100 cash was stolen from his car on Boutonville Road. Police interviewed neighbors who said nothing was taken from their cars and no other larceny reports were received.
Saturday, Oct. 4
6:10 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem for a welfare check after a former boyfriend expressed concern for a woman’s well-being. She told police she did not intend to harm herself and that she wanted nothing to do with the man.
Sunday, Oct. 5
11:55 a.m. — A caller in front of the Vista Market, South Salem, reported their windshield was smashed by falling fruit or a nut the size of a tennis ball. Police detected an impression where the rearview mirror is attached.
2:50 p.m. — A drowning incident was reported in Katonah. No further information was provided.
MOUNT KISCO
Sunday, Sept. 28
12:29 a.m. — Officers responded to South Moger Avenue on a report of a man passed out on the sidewalk. Officers were able to wake the man, who was highly intoxicated. The Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and took him to Northern Westchester Hospital.
1:01 a.m. — A resident of Mount Kisco, male, 34, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he was found asleep behind the wheel of his car in a travel lane on Barker Street. After failing a field sobriety test, the man was taken into custody, booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a future appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
4:20 a.m. — Police investigated a report of a domestic dispute at a Lexington Avenue residence. Officers determined the dispute between a woman and her father was verbal in nature. The matter was resolved when the daughter said she would leave the premises and spend the night elsewhere. A domestic incident report was prepared.
8:45 a.m. — A village employee reported that someone had written the words “RESIST” and “RELEASE THE FILES” in chalk on the ground at the entrance to the Village Hall parking lot. An investigation is continuing.
4:52 p.m. — Officers investigated a complaint of a woman trespassing at a Barker Street property. Building management reported that the woman was previously issued a warning to stay off the grounds. A 37-year-old woman was charged with two counts of trespass, a violation. One of the charges was based on a Village Court warrant issued in May and the second charge was lodged for the current incident.
Monday, Sept. 29
12:52 a.m. — An officer on patrol observed a group of youths playing loud music gathered in the parking lot near Target on North Bedford Road. The condition was corrected.
8:07 a.m. — A man was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol, a violation, after he was observed drinking beer behind a laundromat on Lexington Avenue.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
5:54 a.m. — A Carpenter Avenue resident reported that a man was sleeping in a gazebo near her apartment. An officer located a Barker Street resident in the gazebo who said he had been out drinking the night before and had fallen asleep on his way home. The man left the scene and went home.
7:55 p.m. A noise complaint was received for a Lexington Avenue residence. When officers arrived to investigate the noise complaint, they observed several unoccupied lawn chairs in the backyard along with a cooler with multiple beer cans on top. No one was present in the yard, but officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and then located 11 marijuana plants growing adjacent to the residence. After investigation, two men, ages 45 and 56, were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Wednesday, Oct. 1
7:30 a.m. — A Bedford Hills man requested police check a Pine Street residence to try to locate his daughter, 14. The girl, who had left her home hours earlier following a dispute with her father, was found sleeping outside the home of a friend. The dad was notified that his daughter had been found. Bedford Police responded to take her home.
8:30 a.m. — An officer was dispatched to the Green Street precinct to take a harassment complaint. A resident reported that he has been receiving multiple phone calls and text messages demanding that he pay money or intimate photos of him would be put on the internet and sent to his employer. An investigation is continuing.
3:15 p.m. — An officer responded to Target on North Bedford Road on a report of a juvenile detained by security for shoplifting. Security reported that the Long Island youth, 17, had attempted to steal $89 worth of trading cards. He was released to a family friend and issued a trespass warning barring him from the store.
6:10 p.m. — A resident reported that his teenage daughter had not attended school that day and that he could not locate her. An officer was able to reach the girl by phone and determine she was at a friend’s home in the village. The officer responded to the residence and the girl agreed to be taken home.
6:13 p.m. — Police investigated a report of a domestic dispute that occurred a short time earlier at a Moore Avenue residence. A woman reported that she was afraid following an argument with the father of her child because he had become enraged and punched the refrigerator. Officers went to the man’s place of employment to speak with him and he agreed to stay away from the residence that night. A domestic incident report was prepared.
Thursday, Oct. 2
2:22 p.m. — A village resident, 25, was issued a summons for public consumption of alcohol, a violation, after he was observed drinking from a can of beer as he sat with a group of men on Sarles Avenue. The man attempted to flee through an alley when he was approached by an officer but was caught a short distance away. The summons is returnable to Mount Kisco Justice Court on Oct. 23.
9:58 p.m. — Police investigated a report of a woman causing a disturbance at Stop & Shop on North Bedford Road. The woman, who was intoxicated, was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation.
