David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community.

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

First Bedford Art Crawl draws crowds

With some 60-plus local artists, the town’s three hamlets united on Oct. 19 in the first ever Bedford Art Crawl. It featured a day of art, shopping, music and fall festivities for Katonah, Bedford Village and Bedford Hills.

Each hamlet featured different artisans and live music. Local shops were open for business, dining and drinks.

The Bedford Art Crawl was a collaboration between the Town of Bedford, Destination 39.3, the Katonah Chamber of Commerce and the Bedford Village Business Association. The Recorder was the event media sponsor.

Scarecrows at Muscoot Farm

A fine day of scarecrow building at Muscoot Farm

It was a fine day Sunday to while away the hours at the first Muscoot Scarecrow Building Contest. Families brought their own clothes or costumes for their creations and Muscoot supplied the bamboo support and the fresh hay. Family members worked diligently to stuff the costumes and create the scarecrows that will line part of the hayride next weekend. During the hayrides and pumpkin picking, park visitors will be able to vote on their favorite scarecrows out of the ones on display. Some of the scarecrows included a farmer, Maui, from the movie “Moana,” and a child scarecrow. Muscoot is located at 51 Route 100, Katonah.

Running of the trails

On Sunday, Sept. 29, the private Bedford Riding Lanes trails, six or so miles through the farms, woods and pastures of Bedford, were trotted not by horses but by people in a 10K walk/run. The private trails, formerly equestrian-only, criss-cross 400-plus parcels of private property throughout Bedford, Pound Ridge, Bedford Hills and Katonah. Participants enjoyed the countryside, rustic bridges and scenery.
