A large manhunt took place in Katonah on Thursday afternoon, March 27, after a woman returned home to find an intruder leaving her house.

The man ran off after the apparent burglary was interrupted, Bedford police said, and multiple police officers from the patrol and detective divisions responded at 2:12 p.m.

“An extensive search of the surrounding area was completed, which included assistance from the Westchester County Police Aviation Unit,” police said in a statement.

The neighborhood was canvassed and potential witnesses interviewed, police said. Video surveillance recordings also were reviewed.

Katonah Elementary School was notified, police said, and a lockout order was put in place by administrators. Police were on hand at dismissal time as a precaution.

“At this time the incident appears to be an isolated event and there is no imminent danger to the public,” police said. “This investigation is ongoing and if further information is obtained, it will be disseminated."
