Teen went for the officer’s gun, bit his hand
On Monday, Dec. 2, at 5:20 p.m., police went to a residential treatment facility on Main Street, South Salem, after a patient made both homicidal and suicidal comments during a group cooking class. She grabbed a knife. The chef restrained her. When police arrived, she attacked an employee who screamed for help. The responding officer wrestled her to the ground and restrained her for everyone’s safety after she tried to grab his handgun. She was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance. At the hospital, when the officer went to remove her handcuffs, she tried to bite him. Hospital security was summoned and the teen was placed on a stretcher and restrained to the bed. During this maneuver she succeeded in biting the officer’s hand.
Littering
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 4:40 p.m., a caller reported while driving on Route 22 in Katonah she observed a woman driving in front of her throwing garbage on somebody’s lawn. She told the police she was following the vehicle into Katonah and said she would “drag her out of the car.” Police advised her not to do that. She took a photo of the license plate instead and sent it to the police who said they would be following up. When they went to that person’s home, her husband said that didn’t sound like something his wife would do. The wife then called the police back herself shortly after and said she threw a banana peel towards the woods and didn’t think she was littering on anyone’s lawn. Police advised her to be more cautious about what she throws out of her car.
Monday, Dec. 2
7:30 a.m. — Police were notified by the town park and recreation department of damage to the lower baseball field at Fox Valley Park, Katonah. Tire tracks were discovered during a morning check and grass was observed ripped up in the right field. There were no witnesses and the area lacks camera surveillance. A report was made for documentation.
9:50 a.m. — Police received a call from a management company regarding a possible prowler at a Waccabuc residence. The person in question showed police identification and said they own a radon company and were doing maintenance.
11:40 a.m. — Danbury Police were assisted by Lewisboro Police at a single-family home in South Salem. No further information was provided.
2:15 p.m. — A woman who locked herself out of her car in Goldens Bridge was helped getting back into her vehicle by a police officer.
2:49 p.m. — Police went to a home on Route 123 in South Salem for a welfare check after the resident was reported not seen or heard from in several days. Police spoke with the girlfriend of a tenant who lives on the property; she said a package had remained uncollected on the porch for a few days. Entry was gained to the residence and the woman was found inside, deceased.
Tuesday, Dec. 3
12:45 p.m. — A woman who cut her foot at a long-term residential facility in South Salem was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Vista Ambulance.
1:26 p.m. — A suspicious vehicle was reported driving around the Boulder Ridge residential complex in South Salem. It was determined by police the car belongs to workers completing a job in someone’s garage who just returned from a lunch break.
1:48 p.m. — A caller in South Salem reported they started their first fire of the season in their woodstove when something backed up and their home filled with smoke. All the windows were open and multiple fans were being deployed when South Salem firefighters arrived. There was no fire, and no hazardous carbon monoxide levels were detected.
7:00 p.m. — Police were called to a residential treatment facility on Main Street, South Salem, for a 16-year-old male who might be suicidal. On arrival, police spoke to the teen who agreed to go to Northern Westchester Hospital via Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Westchester EMS.
8:00 p.m. — An individual who fainted and vomited at the dinner table at a restaurant on Route 123 refused medical treatment when it was summoned.
9:30 p.m. — An older man knocking and asking for help was reported by the owner of a garden design business in South Salem. There was a language barrier. After the business owner said he was calling the police, the man got into a gray Volkswagen Jetta with New Jersey plates and drove away. When police caught up with him, he identified himself but appeared to be in an altered mental status. He said his wife was in the hospital. Westchester medics evaluated him and Vista emergency personnel took him to Norwalk Hospital.
Wednesday, Dec. 4
1:11 p.m. — Police were notified by county social services regarding two people sleeping in a car that couldn’t be driven parked in a garage/shed located in South Salem. There is no running water, heat or bathroom facilities in the shed. The mobile crisis team was contacted and said they would be responding to the location immediately and that temporary shelter could be provided. This did not go as expected and the situation dragged on throughout the day. On Thursday, Lewisboro Police made contact, although not face to face. The occupant was told they were not in trouble and the police were only there to help. That person willingly provided the crisis team with her phone number and said she would be reaching out.
4:14 p.m. — Police attempted to serve an order of protection coming out of the Suffolk County sheriff’s office to a South Salem resident. The person to be served was in court at the time. Police returned later and successfully served the order.
8:00 p.m. — Fraud to the tune of $40,000 was reported by a Cross River resident. Police went to her home to take her report. No further information was provided.
10:00 p.m. — A driver who ran out of gas and left his car near Ward Pound Ridge Reservation was seen walking on Route 121 in Cross River. He told police he was walking to the Shell station. He showed his driver’s license as identification; police saw it was expired. He was helped getting gas in his car; police called his dad to pick him up as he couldn’t drive with an expired license.
Thursday, Dec. 5
11:37 a.m. — Smoke in the basement brought South Salem firefighters to a home in South Salem. The trouble was caused by a malfunctioning furnace.
Saturday, Dec. 7
9:40 a.m. — A Cross River resident was assisted back into his wheelchair by Lewisboro Volunteer Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No other help was requested.
Sunday, Dec. 8
11:27 a.m. — A male, 88, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps after he’d fallen at his South Salem home. His wife told responding personnel he was weak and hadn’t eaten much or taken enough liquids.
3:00 p.m. — A woman brought to headquarters a cellphone she claimed hit her car. She said she had no idea where it came from. The phone wasn’t damaged. Police took it into safekeeping but nobody called it or tried to track it.
3:15 p.m. — A resident of Ridgefield, Conn., came to headquarters to report that while she was at the Leon Levy Preserve, South Salem, with her two dogs that morning, another dog attacked her dogs. She described a man with two shepherds tied by their leashes to a tree. She said one of the dogs slipped its collar to attack her dogs. Both her dogs were injured. She did not recognize the man or get his license plate. A report was made for documentation.
