On Friday, June 20, at 7:28 a.m., Police went to Waccabuc for a report of a loose dog in the vicinity of North Salem and Sullivan roads. On arrival they learned the caller caught the dog, a golden retriever, and drove it to police headquarters where its owner was identified and summoned to retrieve it.
Monday, June 16
8:50 a.m. — A Lewisboro Highway Department worker was nearly struck by a vehicle stopped in traffic on Elmwood Road, South Salem, in the vicinity of a construction zone while an excavator was being moved. The operator of a Genesis SUV with Connecticut plates became impatient and conducted a three-point turn to turn around; when the flagger held up the stop sign to him, the operator instead accelerated and nearly struck the flagger and drove off. He returned to the scene shortly after and told the police he was sorry and was going through “a tough time” and that he was on his way to church. He said he felt “trapped” in the slowed traffic and would be in contact with his therapist. The flagger was not injured and the driver went to the highway department office to apologize for his actions.
10:36 p.m. — Police went to the Goldens Bridge train station and spoke to a woman who believed her car was towed or stolen. An officer located it in the parking lot.
Tuesday, June 17
11:42 a.m. — A Pride flag was reported stolen from a South Salem home; the reporting party said two Pride signs belonging to her neighbor were also stolen. Cameras on her property showed four males dressed in black attempting to enter her parked car and taking the flag and the signs. Police are investigating.
9:15 p.m. — A large tree was reported down and blocking the roadway on South Wind Drive, South Salem. The highway department was notified to remove it.
Wednesday, June 18
7:23 a.m. — A tree was reported down and blocking the eastbound lane of Route 35 near Cameron’s Deli. The New York State Department of Transportation was notified, but when they were slow to arrive, Lewisboro Highway Department workers intervened and removed it.
1:42 p.m. — Two officers went to a South Salem home and spoke with a distraught woman who said she’d been fired from her job that day. Police say she was not making sense and made phone contact with her husband who advised them of her mental state. She agreed to be taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for care and evaluation.
6:25 p.m. — A caller reported a man hitchhiking on Route 35 near Four Winds Hospital, Cross River. The hospital was contacted to see if they had any missing patients. They said all patients were accounted for. Police didn’t locate the man.
Thursday, June 19
12:10 p.m. — A fox with a length of old netting twisted around its neck was reported in the woods behind the soccer field of Meadow Pond Elementary School. Police found the animal but it was already dead. The old netting was removed and the officer moved the fox’s body a little deeper into the woods.
Friday, June 20
9:18 a.m. — A caller in Goldens Bridge called police concerned about a black SUV parked for a long time in front of her residence. When police arrived, the vehicle was moved.
4:08 p.m. — Contractors working on a house on Birch Road, South Salem, set off a burglar alarm by not completely securing a door before leaving the worksite for the evening. Police spoke by phone with the homeowner who said they would speak to the contractor about security procedures.
11:33 p.m. — A person, not identified to the press, was arrested in Cross River, charged with driving while intoxicated. A court date was assigned for early July.
Saturday, June 21
1:05 p.m. — An activated burglar alarm brought police to a home on Shoshone Drive, Katonah. A neighbor said it had been going on and off all morning. The homeowner was contacted and said the alarm company was supposed to come and fix it but hadn’t shown up. They said they would contact the company again to shut off that zone as the family would be away for a few days. Police checked the exterior and all appeared secure.
3:45 p.m. — Police on a special detail at the Lewisboro Town Park for the Pride event reported there were no issues and there was a large crowd. The detail, including the parking area, was conducted without incident.
Sunday, June 22
9:45 p.m. — A beagle, already known by name to the police, was reported loose in Katonah in the vicinity of Sunset Road; “Millie” was last seen running into a wooded area. Police searched all around Lake Katonah but did not find the dog.
11:10 p.m. — A Goldens Bridge woman who tripped and fell while answering the door told police she was fine and didn’t need medical attention.
8:15 p.m. — The operator of a 2008 Prius told police their car abruptly stopped running at the intersection of Old Bedford Road and Route 138, Goldens Bridge. Shifting the gear into neutral so it could be pushed out of the roadway was not an option so AAA was called. Police remained on scene until a tow arrived.
9:30 p.m. — Harassment was reported in front of a liquor store in the shopping center at Oak Ridge Commons, South Salem. The store closes at 5 p.m. and the parking lot was empty. Police said no one was present on their arrival.
9:20 p.m. — Police went to a residential long-term facility in South Salem for a report of a cocaine overdose. They spoke with a female who said she’d been doing cocaine with a friend and now was sick and vomiting. Police spoke with her mother who advised her daughter was recently out of rehab. The female was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps in stable condition. The mother of the friend, who lives in Connecticut, was contacted and said her daughter was home and not sick. Police asked her if she was aware her daughter was using cocaine.
