Neighbor scrounging in the trash bins 

On Sunday, July 13 at 7:55 p.m., a resident of Mark Mead Road, Cross River, reported her neighbor using a ladder to climb into a trash bin on her property. The neighbor told police he was looking to see if she was getting rid of anything he could use. She told police she wanted him to leave the property. He said he understood. 


Monday, July 7 

3:52 p.m. — Police were dispatched to Boutonville Road near Route 35 where an Acura sedan was observed off the roadway and in the bushes. They spoke with the operator and her father who said as they were making a turn, the brakes gave out, causing the car to leave the roadway, strike a stop sign and come to rest on an embankment. The car was towed. No one was injured. 


Tuesday, July 8

11:55 a.m. — A Chevy pickup with commercial Connecticut plates was reported by a caller representing a Truesdale Lake property owner’s association who said the vehicle was taking up a beach parking spot. The caller said the unauthorized truck had been parked there overnight. Police contacted the owner who was warned to move the vehicle or it would be towed. 

5:25 p.m. — A blue Audi with Connecticut plates police have been looking for was reported at the playground near the Mountain Lake camp, North Salem. Police located it and followed it until Westchester County Police stopped it on Route 124 in Pound Ridge. Lewisboro Police were busy responding to other calls. Multiple agencies have been on the lookout for this vehicle for some time. 

5:40 p.m. — Low hanging wires that were caught on the top of a sanitation truck pulling onto Route 22, Goldens Bridge, resulted in the pole snapping and landing on the truck’s hood, shattering the windshield. The operator said he’d pulled off the road to use his phone. The garbage truck was towed from the scene. A witness corroborated the wires had been hanging low for some time. The utility was notified of the broken pole. No injuries were reported. 


Wednesday, July 9

10:40 p.m. — A caller on Fairmount Road, Goldens Bridge, reported their mailbox damaged by a vehicle that left the scene. A neighbor’s Ring camera showed it was a FedEx truck backing up. This information was shared with the reporting party who said they would be contacting FedEx. 

1:20 p.m. — An intoxicated man observed lying in the grass on Bouton Road, South Salem, initially declined assistance from police; he had a bicycle and a sealed can of beer with him. He got on his bike and rode it to Post Office Road where he fell off and hit his head. Westchester EMS arrived on scene as he drifted in and out of consciousness. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center by LVAC and Westchester EMS. 

3:30 p.m. — Police went to Avery Road, Cross River, responding to a collision with injuries. A woman was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by LVAC after complaining of head pain. 


Thursday, July 10

1:08 p.m. — Harassment was reported on a playground in South Salem. No further information was provided.

6:50 p.m. — A man in South Salem who choked on a pork chop and then fell to the floor, striking his head, was aided by his son, who performed the Heimlich maneuver to clear the obstruction from his father’s throat. The father was in stable condition when taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by LVAC. 


Friday, July 11

7:45 a.m. — A caller on Main Street, South Salem, reported a sick, likely rabid raccoon hiding  under a gas grill cover on the deck. After observing it to be disoriented and unable to maintain its balance, an officer used a snare to guide it to a safe location to be dispatched. 


Saturday, July 12

9:46 a.m. — Police went to Lakeside Drive, South Salem, for a report of a man sleeping in his Mini Cooper. Police saw the car but it was unoccupied. They rang the bell of a nearby home but no one answered. Nothing criminal was observed. 

11:05 a.m. — A man who injured himself playing pickleball at the playground in Cross River refused medical attention even though his head had an abrasion. 

4:45 p.m. — An elderly woman who accidentally left her car running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. told police she’d fallen asleep and didn’t hear her neighbor banging on the door to check on her. She said she’d turn the car off and there was no problem.
