Lewisboro Police Report Dec. 9-15

Drones, drones, drones

On Thursday, a caller in South Salem reported two drones flying overhead in the vicinity of Apple Hill Court, flying between 200- and 300-feet over the caller’s home. Both drones were flashing red lights. A similar report was made by a caller on Mead Street later in the evening. All drone activity had ceased on the officer’s arrival.

Monday, Dec. 9

9:20 a.m. — Police went to a home in Waccabuc for an activated burglar alarm. On arrival they spoke with a housekeeper who said she accidentally set off the alarm and didn’t know how to turn it off. The owner was contacted to turn off the alarm and no further police assistance was needed.

12:15 p.m. — A car was impounded in Cross River in the parking lot of the Orchard Square Mall after a license plate reader device showed the registration was suspended for parking violations. The car was towed and two summonses were issued to the operator.

12:21 p.m. — A dead dog was reported in the roadway at Route 35 near Spring Street. Police responding said it was a dead bird and not interfering with traffic. The Department of Transportation was notified for pick up.

5:20 p.m. — A caller requested a welfare check of a man on foot in the area of West Lane and Elmwood Road. He told police he was lost and late for a court date in Lewisboro. Police gave him a courtesy ride to the courthouse.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

9:00 a.m. — A disabled vehicle was observed by an officer patrolling the area of Avery Road, Cross River. There was a note on the windshield with a phone number which the officer called. The owner of the car said he would be picking it up within the hour.

12:10 p.m. — A red-and-black bicycle was found abandoned and leaning against a tree at the intersection of Indian Hill Road and Route 35. A caller said it had been there two days. The administrator of a local Facebook page said they would get involved in locating the owner and would contact the police if that person was identified.

3:35 p.m. — An unconscious woman was reported at her home in Waccabuc. On police arrival CPR was already initiated by South Salem firefighters and Lewisboro ambulance personnel. The chest compressions were successful and the woman, now conscious and alert, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital.

4:50 p.m. — A near collision between a car and a deer occurred on Route 123 causing the operator of the car to crash into a utility pole to avoid hitting another car. The pole snapped, causing damage to wires. The car ended up in the woods. The operator abandoned it when another driver, uninvolved, gave him a ride to an urgent care in Danbury. Conn., after he complained of head pain. He was subsequently transported to a Connecticut hospital and his car was towed.

Wednesday, Dec. 11

2:00 p.m. — Wires were reported down on Peaceable Street after a tree came down, pulling a utility pole down with it. Traffic barricades were put in place until the utility arrived to address the situation.

2:00 p.m. — A woman came to headquarters inquiring how to obtain an order of protection against a former boyfriend. She was told she would have to contact the police in the jurisdiction where he resides.

The caller insisted they’d heard 10 distinct shots coming from the rear of their property. Police determined the call to be unfounded.

9:45 p.m.— Police saw three drones flying in a triangular formation while patrolling the Lewisboro Town Park. The Ward Pound Ridge Reservation was checked for drone operators with negative results. The officer continued to see the drones flying from north to south in the vicinity of sensitive facilities. The chief of police was notified, as well as county law enforcement.

Their Ring camera showed him standing there for a while before getting into a car, still staring at the house, and then driving off. Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.
