Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Lewisboro Police Report April 28-May 4

Hot pursuit 

On Thursday, May 1, at 5:47 p.m., a man operating an unregistered orange dirt bike on Route 35 without a helmet was pursued as he turned onto Bouton Road. Bystanders waved the officer on as the man continued to elude police chasing him down Cider Mill Road. After a lengthy pursuit, the officer lost sight of the man and the chase was stopped. 

Monday, April 28

8:14 a.m. — Police went to the Vista Community Park on Smith Ridge Road, South Salem, to observe torn up sections of grass on a baseball field, likely by a truck or large vehicle. The baseball diamond itself was not damaged. Police are currently looking for whoever did the damage. 

5:40 p.m. — Police saw a car at the intersection of Routes 121 and 35 with no front license plate and heavily tinted windows. Patrol followed the car which began weaving in and out of traffic at an accelerated speed. The operator, male, initiated a chase after the officer activated their lights. The driver turned onto Interstate 684 northbound, speeding, and continuing to weave in and out of traffic. Police gave up the chase at Exit 6A. The rear license plate information came back to an Ossining address and that department was notified and the car was stopped in their jurisdiction. The driver was identified and detained until Lewisboro Police arrived to give him a citation for reckless driving and four other citations. 

8:20 p.m. — Police were dispatched to a residence on Bouton Road for a possible verbal domestic incident. No further information was provided.

Tuesday, April 29

7:35 a.m. — A man well known to Lewisboro Police was reported walking in the vicinity of Four Winds Hospital in Cross River by a caller who expressed concern for his welfare. He appeared in good health and declined assistance. 

9:05 a.m. — Police went to a residence on Old Oscaleta Road, South Salem, for a reported domestic incident. No further information was provided. 

12:53 p.m. — A dog locked inside a warm car was reported at the Acme market on Route 22 in Goldens Bridge. On arrival, police saw a pit bull inside a gray Honda. The windows were cracked and the dog appeared to be fine. The owner came out of the market and police say there was no problem. 

1:30 p.m. — A raccoon was dispatched by one round from an officer’s service weapon after appearing to be rabid on Route 121 in Cross River. The department of transportation was notified to remove the carcass. 

3:03 p.m. — K-9 Zane and his handler patrolled with two other officers to assist New York State Police pursuing a stolen vehicle reported traveling northbound on Interstate 684 in Lewisboro. The vehicle crashed into an uninvolved vehicle as it exited at the 6A northbound ramp. State police took into custody a female passenger. The male driver fled on foot. K-9 Zane and his handler searched for him in the woods; the dog went down an embankment and located the man hiding in a hollowed-out tree. He put up his hands in surrender and was taken into police custody by Bedford officers and Westchester County Police who were on scene. 

7:38 p.m. — A man reported bleeding from the mouth was taken by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital. He told responding emergency personnel he’d recently had oral surgery. 

Wednesday, April 30

10:30 a.m. — Police went to Gideon Reynolds Lane, Cross River, after a man reported he was unable to get in touch with his daughter who earlier that day had tried to hurt herself at a hotel in Mount Kisco. Police located her at Northern Westchester Hospital where she was being evaluated. 

1:30 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem after an anonymous caller requested a welfare check on a client. A woman came to the door and asked police to come inside to talk to a man who was subsequently placed under arrest and swiftly seen by a judge who issued a stay away order to the female resident. The man was scheduled to return to court May 12. 

Thursday, May 1

12:15 p.m. — A woman came to police headquarters to report harassment at a property she owns in South Salem. She explained there is a pending litigation regarding her septic tank and a neighbor who came onto her property to scream in her face about legal fees incurred. The reporting party said she lives in Manhattan but is concerned for her tenants. Police called the neighbor who said she would stop coming onto the reporting party’s property and stop harassing them. 

12:55 p.m. — Police responded to a residential facility in South Salem after a man was reported harming himself. Westchester EMS was on scene and transported him to Westchester Medical Center. 

Friday, May 2

10:00 a.m. - Police went to a hospital in Cross River for a report of a sexual assault. No further information was provided. 

11:15 a.m. — Police went to a home in Pound Ridge for a domestic situation where a mother was reported hitting her son with a chair. On their arrival, the mom said her son lives in Boston, and had probably made the call to the police who said there was no sign of any domestic incident on the premises. No further information was  provided.

2:21 p.m. — While patrolling Route 35 in Waccabuc, police saw a Chevy pickup speeding. The operator turned onto Mead Street and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver showed police their Connecticut license and the officer noted what appeared to be an open container of an alcoholic lemonade in the cup holder. The driver was asked if he’d been drinking. It turned out his license was suspended and he was on probation for a sexual assault. He said he was working at a home in Waccabuc and was given a courtesy ride to that address. He was issued four citations for speeding, unlicensed operation, disobeying a traffic control device and open container. 

Saturday, May 3

8:05 a.m. — Police and emergency personnel went to a home in South Salem to assist someone who fell down the stairs. They were lifted up and evaluated by medics. The resident refused further assistance. 

5:27 p.m. — A resident of South Salem, female, who fell in her yard was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Vista ambulance. 

Sunday, May 4

1:20 p.m. — Two officers went to a home in South Salem after receiving a 911 call about a man who hadn’t taken his medication and was threatening self-harm. He ran off before police arrived, and his mother was out looking for him. She later reported to police she found him and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. 

2:30 p.m. — While traveling westbound on Route 35 police encountered a gray Audi with Connecticut plates with their hazard lights activated; the car began tailgating the officer before accelerating past them. The car did stop and the officer got out of their car and approached. Police said the driver was uncooperative, appeared disturbed and resisted the officer. He was handcuffed and the officer called for assistance. The man was placed in a patrol vehicle where he continued to behave in a manner dangerous to himself and others. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital where he was restrained and handed over to medical staff.
