John Jay Senior Night Awards

John Jay High School Seniors were presented with awards and scholarships on a perfect evening at the Senior Recognition Night in front of the school on , Monday, June 2. Over $100,000 in scholarships were awarded by over 80 organizations including the PTO from all schools in the distric, the John Jay Boosters Club, local fire departments, athletic teams and clubs, memorial scholarships, and many others.

Clockwise from the top, students stood up when their names were announced as award or scholarship recipients. Larry, Sam, and Jill Mango after the ceremony. Sam was awarded the Sonia Lanman Fine Arts Award for students who have shown a passion for fine or performing arts. Ava Koch and Lucas Mongiello were awarded the John Jay Trailblazer Scholarship. Avan and Lucas were long-time volunteers to build and maintain the John Jay Community Trail and student race directors of the John Jay Trail Race. Max Wasserman was presented with his offer to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. John Jay Alumni Kacey Rooney was in the audience to help recognize the first scholarship presented in her name. Kacey was the first student with Down Syndrome to attend and graduate K-12 from John Jay schools and the scholarship in her name is presented to a senior who has volunteered in activities and programs to support people with special needs.
