John Jay senior Andy Condon is certainly making the most out of his final season running for the John Jay track and field program.
Condon was the highlight of the two-day meet held at Hendrick Hudson High School on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, as he won a pair of County Championship to add to his impressive collection of titles in his senior year.
After winning Section 1 titles in both cross-country and indoor track, Condon is looking for a strong finish on the track this spring before he moves on to run for the University of Richmond next fall.
In one of the most anticipated races of the meet, two of the top runners in New York state would meet in another chapter of their friendly rivalry as Condon and Ryan Sykes of Horace Greeley lined up for the start of the boys 1,600-meter race.
It was Condon pulling away down the stretch for the victory with a time of 4:15.34, four seconds ahead of Sykes, to win the title.
Condon did it again in the boys 3,200-meter race, pulling away from the field for the victory with a time of 9:30.74.
John Jay finished eighth overall in the boys team standings out of 32 teams competing in the County Championships. Other top finishers for the John Jay boys team included Skylar Monasch with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, and Joe Kern was 12th in the javelin.
For the John Jay girls, five different Wolves finished in the top 15 in their respective events. The highlight of the meet was the high jump for the John Jay girls as Jillian Samuels finished third and teammate Elyse Hermanto was seventh.
Emma Barniv was fourth in the 3,000-meter run for the Wolves. Bluma Klein was eighth in the javelin throw, and Helena Schembri was 10th in the 100-meter hurdles.
Fox Lane had five different competitors finish in the top 15 in the boys competition. Leading the way were the Desforges brothers in the distance events. Marc Desforges was second in the 3,200-meter race behind Condon with a personal record time of 9:49.19. His twin brother, Jacques, was 10th in the 1,600, with Marc right behind in 11th place. Jesse Agor was eighth in the pole vault as he cleared 10 feet. Santo Cutri was ninth in the hammer throw, and Pablo Morales was 11th in the pentathlon.
In the girls County Championships, Fox Lane had seven top-15 finishes as the Foxes and John Jay finished tied in the team standings.
Sasha Rapaport led the way for the Fox Lane girls as she finished fourth in the discus.
Brynn Anthony had a busy meet for the Fox Lane girls as she earned a pair of top 10 finishes. Anthony was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, and she was ninth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Abigail Meinel was ninth in the 100 hurdles. Amanda Mazzuca was 11th in the 400-meter race. Sienna Greco was 12th in the javelin throw, and Ashley Herrero was 15th in the 1,500-meter race.
