Swim champions crowned at All-Star meet

It is the climactic finish of the summer swim season, the best of the best competing against each other in the All-Star meet for the Northern Westchester Swim Conference.

You have to earn the chance to compete in the All-Star meet. A culmination of the summer swim season with a big weekend for a big finish as swimmers and divers from 25 teams first compete in the five divisional championship meets on Saturday, and then the champions in each event return the next day to compete in the All-Star meet on Sunday to determine the “best of the best.”

First up was the diving competition on July 30, at the Lewisboro town pool, and then came the All-Star swim meet on Aug. 2, at the Briarcliff Manor pool.

It was a big day for several local swimmers as they capped off the summer season with a victory in their final meet of the season.

The biggest day of them all was turned in by Annabel Wolfe of Lewisboro as she was not only a double champion, but she did it in record-setting fashion. Wolfe set a new NWSC record in two individual events, and she also helped Lewisboro win a relay event as well.

Wolfe was a champion in the 14-and-under girls breaststroke event with a record-setting time of 35.68. She then won the title in the 14-and-under girls butterfly with another record-setting time of 25.41. She started the day by teaming up with Evelyn Collier Lake, Danica Moden and Amelia Collier Lake to help Lewisboro win the 14-and-under girls 200-yard medley relay.

It was also a big day in the pool for Spencer Grayson of the Mount Kisco Memorial Pool team in his final meet competing in the NWSC. Grayson was victorious in the 18-and-under boys breaststroke event, and he came back to win in his final race, touching the wall first in the 18-and-under boys freestyle event.

In addition to Annabel Wolfe and Grayson, there were three more double winners from the local teams at the All-Star meet. Following the example set by Annabel, Isla Wolfe was also a double winner for Lewisboro as she swam to victory in the 8-and-under girls breaststroke and freestyle events.

Mount Kisco had two more double winners in the boys events. Lane Arias was victorious in the 8-and-under boys butterfly and freestyle events, while Nico Zhang was a champion in the 12-and-under boys backstroke and butterfly events.

It was a big day for the Oh sisters from Mount Kisco, as Olivia Oh was a champion in the 14-and-under girls backstroke event, and Sophia Oh was the champion in the 18-and-under girls backstroke. Sophia teamed up with sister, Maddie Oh, along with Isabel Valenzuela and Hannah McMullan to win the 18-and-under girls freestyle relay title. McMullan was also an individual champion as she won the 18-and-under girls breaststroke race.

Pound Ridge crowned a pair of champions in the All-Star competitions as Sofia Roberts was a champion in the 13-and-under girls diving finals on Thursday at Lewisboro. Eva Orscher then provided the highlight for Pound Ridge at the All-Star swim meet as she won the 18-and-under girls butterfly title.

The highlight of the meet for Katonah came from Analise Braddock as she won the 18-and-under girls freestyle event.

Bedford Hills had a champion as Tyler Collins won the 8-and-under boys backstroke title.

Jagger O’Connor of Lewisboro was a champion in the 6-and-under girls freestyle race.

In the championship meets on Saturday, Mount Kisco and Pound Ridge competed in the Division 1 championships at Yorktown, with Mount Kisco finishing fourth with 213 points and Pound Ridge in fifth with 183 points. Katonah was fourth in the Division II championships with a score of 196. Lewisboro was crowned as the Division III champions in their home pool as it won the title with a score of 224 points. Bedford Village was second in the Division IV championships with 146 points, and Bedford Golf & Tennis was right behind in third at 143. At the Division V championships, Waccabuc was second with 154 points.
