Land Conservancy promotes Dave Prosser

The Pound Ridge Land Conservancy has announced the promotion of Dave Prosser to director of land stewardship.

Since joining the PRLC in April 2023, Prosser has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to PRLC’s work in land conservation and environmental education, the group said.

In his new position, Prosser will lead stewardship and grant writing for PRLC, manage all volunteer programs, and oversee the care and maintenance of 20 preserves with over 12 miles of trails.

“In less than two years with PRLC, Dave has grown tremendously in the scope of his work he is doing for us as he extends his already-strong skill set with experience in Pound Ridge,” said Jack Wilson, president of the group’s board. “We rely on Dave’s leadership and judgment in areas far beyond his initial responsibilities and we want his title to reflect the expansion of his role with PRLC.”

Prosser is enthusiastic about his new role.

“I am honored to step into this leadership position and am eager to continue working with our dedicated board and the community to promote environmental stewardship and land conservation,” he said.

The promotion comes as the land conservancy celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of land preservation and environmental advocacy.

It was senior night for the Fox Lane girls varsity basketball team and the crowd was there to support the Foxes as seniors Cara Drapala, Kayla Santos and Ava Shuster took to the court Feb. 7, against Byram Hills.

By the end of the game, the night belonged to Drapala as she was on fire, connecting for a game-high 22 points to lead Fox Lane to a convincing 56-32 victory. A four-year varsity player, the game meant a lot to the senior star after she missed all of her junior season due to an injury. She had a big cheering section of family and friends on hand with signs to fire her up, and she admits it was a special night.

“I was just thinking let’s have fun, it’s just a game, I missed an entire year, so to be out there playing with this team means everything to me,” Drapala said after the game. “I’ve got a great support system and to hear them tonight, I couldn’t ask for anything more. We’re having a great season and we’re excited for the postseason. We have to keep working hard one game at a time.”

Drapala started the game off scoring the first four points of the game for Fox Lane, but the Bobcats hung in there and it was tied up at 8-8 after the first quarter. However, the Foxes went on a 15-0 run and dominated the second quarter outscoring the Bobcats 20-3 to take command.

“Tonight, everyone was smiling, every time Cara hit a shot the whole team went nuts, they really fed off of her tonight,” said Fox Lane coach Kris Matts. “Every year it’s hard with the seniors, the kids are so emotional. This year’s group, Cara is one of the best players in Fox Lane history, and Kayla and Ava are really good and we came out really strong defensively tonight. We went 11 deep and all the girls really supported each other.”

After the first quarter nerves, Fox Lane exploded to start the second quarter, as everyone got involved for the Foxes. Riley New scored seven points in the quarter, and her sister, Dylan New, hit a pair of 3-pointers. Morgan Clinton, Cora Moore and Kami Boniello all scored as the Foxes took over.

Then Drapala took over in the second half, scoring 16 points with the Fox Lane bench and home crowd cheering her on. Drapala suffered a devastating ACL and MCL tear and missed all of last year, so all her family and friends and teammates understand what it means for her to enjoy every moment on the court. They let her hear the applause every time she hit a shot.

“That’s because she is like one of the best kids on planet Earth, all her friends and family, they just love Cara,” explained Matts. “Some kids don’t come back from the injury she had, she came back even stronger. She kept pushing herself, and that’s the way she lives life, in the classroom, on the court, 100 percent all the time.”

Riley New had another big game for the Foxes as she finished with 16 points overall. Dylan New finished with six, and Moore scored five points. Clinton scored four and Boniello added three points to round out the scoring for the Foxes.

It was a good night for the Foxes as they rebounded to stop a three-game losing streak with a dominating win to improve to 12-6 overall on the season with two more regular season games left on the schedule. The Foxes were set to finish the regular season on the road Thursday, Feb. 13, at rival Horace Greeley.
