Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Bedford Police Reports March 10-16

Trio face larceny charges

On Wednesday, March 12, three women, ages 32, 25 and 23, from Connecticut, were arrested and charged with larceny. Police say they are connected to thefts reported at Kohl’s on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, on two separate dates. Two of the women live in Hartford, one is from Windsor. They were initially arrested in Cortlandt Manor by New York State Police, accused of stealing from a Kohl’s store in that area. After they were processed, Bedford Police received them at the Cortlandt Manor courthouse and brought them to Bedford headquarters where they were charged with thefts reported by the Bedford Hills Kohl’s loss prevention officer on that day and also Jan. 31. Police say they stole $4,000 worth of clothing. Some of the items stolen were recovered by state police. The three were processed and released on their own recognizance and are to appear in Bedford court March 26. 


Monday, March 10

4:28 p.m. — A resident of Katonah Crossing, Katonah, collided with a postal vehicle in their own driveway as mail was being delivered. The resident said they were backing out of their driveway and conducting a three-point turn when the postal vehicle entered the driveway at the same time. No citations were issued and no injuries were reported. Neither vehicle required a tow.  

4:30 p.m. — A driver who passed a stopped school bus with flashing red lights on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, was issued a summons.  


Tuesday, March 11

2;55 p.m. — A female, 83, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after reporting feeling sick and dizzy in the vicinity of the sewer plant on Haines Road, Bedford Hills. She was being cared for by a medic on scene when police arrived. 

8:06 p.m. — Police went to a home on Lakeview Drive, Bedford, in response to a domestic incident between a husband and wife who are legally separated. They spoke with the husband first who said his wife slapped him. She said he was “up in her face” and nearly spitting on her when she slapped him after asking him to back away. He said his mother witnessed the slap. His mother told police she did not see the slap but heard the couple arguing. A New York state domestic incident report was completed. 

11:09 p.m. — Two brothers were reported fighting at a Bedford Village home. Police spoke with their mother who said she tried to enforce a time limit on one son’s cellphone use. This resulted in an argument when the other boy stuck up for his mom. The brothers began pushing each other which is when mom called the police. No injuries were reported. A domestic incident report was completed.


Wednesday, March 12

9:18 a.m. — A dog was found on Allen Lane, Bedford Hills. It was taken into the care of the Bedford dog control officer who scanned it for a microchip. With the assistance of a Bedford veterinary clinic, the owner was located and the dog was returned home.  

2:19 p.m. — Bedford Police traveled to the Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch to transport a prisoner being held there for a court appearance in Bedford. During the transport they were advised the court date was canceled and the prisoner was returned to the correctional facility. 

9:28 p.m. — A male, 42, and homeless, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be treated for intoxication after being ejected from a down county shelter for being drunk and arguing with another shelter resident. 


Thursday, March 13

10:38 a.m. — An odor of burning plastic inside a residence on Mount Holly Road, Katonah, brought police and Katonah firefighters. No fire or fire condition was found.  

1:58 p.m. — A woman reported panhandling in the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, was advised by police of the local laws prohibiting that behavior. She identified herself to police and said she would leave the area.  


Friday, March 14

5:09 p.m. — Police and emergency personnel responded to a rollover on Cantitoe Street, Katonah. On arrival, they spoke with a female, 61, from Bedford, who said she was driving southbound when for an unknown reason she veered off the road, striking a stone wall. Her SUV flipped over and came to rest facing the wrong way on the roadway. She complained of chest pain from the airbag deployment and was taken to Westchester Medical Center by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Her vehicle was towed and the owner of the stone wall was apprised of the damage.  

10:58 p.m. — Smoke was reported coming from a car parked on the side of the road on South Bedford Road near Snyders Hill Road. On arrival, police saw smoke coming from under the car’s hood. Bedford Hills firefighters arrived and said the car was merely overheated and there was no fire. It was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.  

Saturday, March 15

1:18 a.m. — A caller on McLain Street, Bedford, reported a possible burglar on the premises after observing a flickering light outside her bedroom window. Multiple officers responded to the scene and the exterior of the home was checked. It was observed there was a flickering exterior light on one side of the residence. It was suggested to the homeowner that they call an electrician. 

4:22 p.m. — Police respond to Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road, Mount Kisco, after a hiker reported her car was broken into and miscellaneous items stolen. The victim, who is from Pennsylvania, said she’d parked for an hour to walk in the sanctuary. When she returned, she saw a rear passenger side window was broken; police observed glass everywhere. She said a duffle bag containing clothing and jewelry was stolen along with her purse. The incident is under investigation. Police say they are adding drive-by patrols to the area.   


Sunday, March 16

7:08 a.m. — A female, 17, from Stamford, Conn., was taken to Stamford Hospital by Bedford firefighters after her car hit a tree on Pound Ridge Road, Bedford. She told police there was a problem with a tire that caused the crash. Her car was towed. Police say her arm and hand were injured. 

12:42 p.m. — Police were alerted by the manager of a Tesla dealership that a car was accidentally dropped off at the wrong location on Bedford Avenue, Bedford Hills. The manager was alerting police he was going to that address to retrieve the vehicle and didn’t want to be mistaken for stealing a Tesla. 

10:14 p.m. — A fire was reported at Kasho on Haines Road, Bedford Hills. Police and Bedford Hills firefighters found a pile of smoldering cardboard on a patio outside a dormitory. The fire appeared to have been intentionally set. The fire was extinguished and no injuries or structural damage were reported.
