Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

A life saved

On Friday, Dec. 20, at 11:57 a.m., an unconscious man was reported on the ice at the Harvey School ice rink on Jay Street, Katonah. Multiple officers responded to the rink. The man was found lying face up and not breathing. An officer initiated CPR and cardiac shock procedures were started and the man regained consciousness. Oxygen was applied and medics arrived on scene. A resident of Mamaroneck, male, 63, was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Monday, Dec. 16

5:54 a.m. — Bedford firefighters responded to a report of a bathroom fire on Capricorn Lane, Bedford Hills. On police arrival firefighters had already put out the fire; they said a towel caught fire after it was left on top of a light inside the bathroom. No injuries were reported.

8:33 a.m. — A resident of Adams Street, Bedford Hills, reported an unpleasant conversation via text on Snapchat. The caller reported the other party said abusive things to her and she felt harassed. The caller, 28, notified the police again at 12:33 p.m., to say she was still exchanging texts with the other party. Police advised her both times to not talk to strangers on Snapchat.

4:54 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, female, 83, was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after she fell at her home. Medics were on scene.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

1:05 p.m. — A Tesla was reported stolen from a body shop parking lot on Adams Street, Bedford Hills. The business owner told police a customer who bought the car at auction brought it in to be fixed but the business was unable to fix it. The customer, whose listed address is Pound Ridge, was notified. The car was left by the main front doors of the business for several days. One day the business owner noticed it was no longer there and assumed the customer had a tow pick it up. A month passed and the business owner was contacted by the customer to say he was finally arranging for a tow. The business owner said he thought it had already been towed. The customer said Tesla does not acknowledge him as the owner as he’d purchased the car at auction and never got it registered in his name. Tesla requires a police report about the matter before it can be considered stolen and tracked by the corporation. The whereabouts of the car are currently unknown.

12:18 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a man slumped over a steering wheel in downtown Katonah. Police said he is 19, from Ridgefield, Conn., and was asleep with his hazard lights on. The man told police he’d been waiting for two hours for AAA to respond to his inoperable car and took a nap. He was told to call the police if they didn’t show up and he needed help or a tow.

5:12 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, 73, was taken from his home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after falling and injuring his ankle.

2:15 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 28, was arrested at the home she shares with her mother and sister on Adams Street. She was charged with two counts of assault; two counts of menacing; and criminal mischief and obstructing governmental administration. Police reported the woman is “emotionally disturbed.” The woman argued with her mom and sister after coming into the house in an “angry mood.” Her family members said she wouldn’t stop pacing or making threatening statements. They tried to ignore her and her sister went out on a glassed-in porch; the subject grabbed a can opener and broke the glass, injuring her own finger. Police were called and the woman was uncooperative. Handcuffed, she was taken by Westchester EMS to Northern Westchester Hospital to be treated for emotional disturbance and her injured finger. When she was cleared from the hospital, she was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and saw a judge who set bail she was unable to make. She was transported to the county jail and appeared in criminal court the next day where bail was set again, and again she was unable to make it. She was returned to the county jail. Her mother and sister were given protection paperwork and a court order for her to stay away.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

4:25 p.m. — Police were called to a business on Babbitt Road, Bedford Hills, after the owner’s ex-girlfriend violated an order of protection and stay away order by entering the business where she made a scene; he wasn’t there. Police interviewed his sister who is an employee and then  contacted the ex-girlfriend who said she would turn herself in to be charged with criminal contempt the day after Christmas.

6:37 p.m. — Two cars were reported stolen from a driveway on Trudy Lane, Bedford. Ring camera footage showed two people jogging down the driveway and driving away with the cars, one at a time. Police say one of the drivers barely knew how to drive and took some time backing out of the driveway. The residents were home but unaware. That evening one of the cars was recovered in Bristol, Conn.; the other car was abandoned after a crash in Fairfield, Conn., where the driver fled. Both cars were recovered.

One driver with Connecticut plates sped into the lot and attempted to pull into a parking space when it struck a parked car, swiftly reversed and sped out of the lot. The parked car did not require a tow.

4:41 p.m. — A woman called the police on their neighbor on Babbitt Road, Bedford Hills, saying a teenage girl was playing World of Warcraft and “getting worked up” and “raised her voice” at the complaining party. The teen and their parents were notified of the complaint.
