Attempted grand larceny at Kohl’s
Multiple units responded April 6 at 3:09 p.m. to a reported larceny in progress at Kohl’s on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. The loss prevention supervisor pointed police to the area of the store where they saw a man in an aisle assembling an electric scooter. Found near him was a suitcase from the store that had been filled with electronic devices. The man, 40, from Mount Kisco, was handcuffed and charged with attempted grand larceny. Police said he also was in possession of assorted drug paraphernalia. His behavior indicated he might be in a chemically altered state and an ambulance was requested and he was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. He was subsequently released to police for processing and is to appear in court April 16.
Katonah man charged with criminal contempt
A Katonah man, 52, was charged with criminal contempt for his continued disobedience of a court order of protection involving his former wife. Police said he repeatedly misuses an app that makes it possible for divorced or divorcing couples to exchange pertinent information about their children with whom they have shared custody. He was contacted by police to turn himself in for a warrant for his arrest. Police were contacted by his attorney who said he would turn himself in on April 7, which he did. He was formally arrested at 2:40 p.m. that day, processed and released. He is to appear in court May 7. Another order of protection was issued regarding his use of the app.
Monday, March 31
2:18 p.m. — Dogs were reported barking on Tucker Road in Bedford Hills on two separate dates. The caller requested the dog control officer speak to the owner. No one was home when the officer attempted to make contact and a letter was sent about the complaint. Police say this is an ongoing matter.
2:17 p.m. — A woman, 86, fell down on Katonah Avenue, Katonah. She told Katonah Bedford Hills medics responding she didn’t need help and had only overexerted herself while out walking.
Tuesday, April 1
4:37 p.m. — Police went to a home in Katonah for a physical altercation between teen siblings. An argument had escalated into a shoving situation and the boy called the police for help. They spoke to the mom via cell phone (she wasn’t home) and she said she would be returning home soon and would have a word with her children. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
Wednesday, April 2
12:30 p.m. — A prisoner scheduled to appear in court on larceny charges was taken from the jail in Ulster County to appear in Bedford court. After his hearing, he was returned to the Kingston facility, where he is serving time for another crime.
Thursday, April 3
9:04 a.m. — Two people were injured in a collision in Bedford Village on Bedford Center Road. A 46-year-old woman from Stamford was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance for chest and neck pain. A 44-year-old woman from Elmsford was also taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters for pain to her wrist and contusions. Police spoke with an uninvolved witness who said one driver making a left turn from Route 22 by the Bedford Cross pulled out in front of another car traveling in the opposite direction. Both cars were towed from the scene. No citations were given.
7:52 p.m. — A mom on Lakeside Drive, Katonah, reported to police an unusual incident that happened that afternoon involving her two sons. She said she was watching from the window as they exited their school bus and were walking home when they were approached by a man in a car who spoke to them at some length. She asked her sons what he said and they said the man asked them about ice skating on the pond and where they go to school. He drove away before she could get the license plate. Police say they will patrol the area when the school bus makes its drop.
Friday, April 4
12:35 p.m. — Police spoke with a man at Depot Plaza, Bedford Hills. They saw him sitting on a bench. He’d been reported jumping up and down and shouting. He apologized to the officer and said he was just upset about a mistake he’d made getting off the train at the wrong station and yelling and jumping up and down was just how he let off steam but was calm now.
12:53 p.m. — A New Rochelle mother came to headquarters to report an incident involving her daughter, a former student at the Harvey School in Katonah. She said another child who is currently a student at the school is still harassing her daughter on social media by photoshopping her face onto other pictures. The mother wanted the police to speak with this student to cease contact. She was advised since her daughter lives in New Rochelle and these incidents are occurring off the Harvey School property she would have to pursue the matter with New Rochelle law enforcement. Her report was documented and Bedford police said they would be contacting the New Rochelle police about the matter.
5:02 p.m. — A Babbitt Road, Bedford Hills, resident burning papers outside in a metal drum was advised by police against open burns. Bedford Hills firefighters extinguished the fire.
5:15 p.m. — A caller reported someone screaming for help in the vicinity of Green Lane, Bedford Hills. On arrival, officers saw a woman sitting outside her assisted living residence. A staffer advised them this was normal behavior for the woman who screams when she’s upset. No police assistance was required.
Saturday, April 5
4:35 p.m. — Police were requested to come to a children’s birthday party on Succabone Road in Bedford Hills. There was no problem; the youngsters were excited to meet a real live police officer who congratulated the birthday child on their big day and maybe ate some cake.
11:25 p.m. — A Fox Lane, Bedford resident reported someone might be on the property; the resident said they saw what they thought was light from a flashlight coming from their tennis courts. Police searched the property but saw no one.
Sunday, April 6
3:09 p.m. — A Clinton Road, Bedford, father reported unwanted messages from a man who used to date his daughter. He told police the couple had a bad history. The messages were vaguely threatening. Even the recipient couldn’t understand their meaning. He requested a police officer check on his daughter who lives at another address. She said she is fine and hasn’t been in contact with the man since 2011. Police left a message for the ex-boyfriend and told him to cease all contact.
4:30 p.m. — A boy, 12, who reported himself lost in the woods got himself home using the GPS on his phone to Harris Road. He contacted the police first to say he was lost although he did see signs for the BRLA trails. Police used their own tracking system to determine he was near St. Matthews Church but still in the woods. They met him at his home where he said he was fine and thanked them for helping.
