Bedford Police Report Nov. 25-Dec. 1

Mom threatens adult daughter with kitchen tool 

A resident of  Bedford Hills, female, 64, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 28, at 11:13 p.m., at her home, charged with menacing with a weapon; assault with intent to cause great physical harm; and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Multiple officers responded to a report of a domestic situation between a mother and her adult daughter; the mother was reported to possibly have a weapon. On arrival, police saw the suspect forcibly pushing the younger woman out of the apartment and shutting the door. The suspect then locked herself inside and refused to come out. Police spoke with the daughter who said her mother attempted to hurt her with a knife sharpening tool. The mother eventually opened the door and allowed police inside. Both parties said they’d argued. The daughter said her mother made threatening movements with the tool towards her face. Police say alcohol was a factor. The mother was arrested and taken to police headquarters and processed. She remained at headquarters overnight and in the morning was arraigned by a judge and released on her own recognizance. Police gave her a courtesy ride to the train station. The daughter was given a full order of protection. Child protective services was contacted as the victim’s daughter was present during the incident. The mother is to return to court Dec. 4.  


Monday, Nov. 25

12:25 a.m. — Police assisted a couple from out of town who were lost and low on gas seeking a service station that might be open at the late hour. They were advised to go to the Shell station on South Bedford Road, Bedford.

2:07 p.m. — A loose pony was reported on Old Post Road, Bedford. Police say it was gone on their arrival and there was no further reporting.  

3:23 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills told police about issues she’s having with her bank account which was flagged due to her son’s unauthorized use of her debit card. She said he’s made these purchases over a series of months while she has been away from home at a medical facility. Police are investigating.

9:28 p.m. — Police met with a landlord in Bedford Hills who wanted them to know about a former tenant who the landlord said was “acting manic” and looking to acquire a firearm. The former tenant, female, told the landlord someone raped her in another jurisdiction. A report was made for documentation. 


Tuesday, Nov. 26

10:28 a.m. — The Bedford dog control officer was dispatched to a veterinary practice on North Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, after they notified police someone brought in an injured cat they found. The cat couldn’t be transported to the SPCA Westchester, Briarcliff  Manor, unless accompanied by an animal control officer. The DCO took the cat to the shelter without incident.  

2:24 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, 81, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters for difficulty breathing.  

2:44 p.m. — A resident of Katonah, male, 34, was taken by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for difficulty breathing. He told the police he’d drunk an entire bottle of tequila and had a seizure. 

4:24 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Road, Katonah, reported an unknown party placed a sign on her front lawn with profane words written on it. She told police she’d made previous reports about her political signs being removed or damaged and that she noticed a pickup truck outside her property occupied by a shouting man she didn’t recognize. She was unable to provide a license plate or give a better description. A report was made for documentation and the homeowner removed the sign. 


Wednesday, Nov. 27

7:23 a.m. — Police went to a home on Adams Street, Bedford Hills, about a missing phone. They met with a woman who said her daughter was just admitted into a hospital and a nurse gave the daughter’s phone to the mom for safekeeping. The mom said she would be returning the phone to her daughter. 

2:08 p.m. — Bedford Police assisted Westchester County Police searching for a car reported traveling on the Saw Mill River Parkway northbound; the operator was reported menacing someone with a firearm. Bedford Police were later updated that the fleeing suspect did not get on the parkway and their assistance was no longer needed. 

6:46 p.m. — A mother and teen daughter, residents of Wildwood Road, Katonah, met with police to report the daughter’s former boyfriend keeps trying to contact her through mutual friends and social media. The daughter had already blocked the boy’s number. She told police she was somewhat afraid of him. Police contacted the boy’s mother who said she would speak to her son, also a teenager, and tell him to stop contacting the girl. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.   


Thursday, Nov. 28

1:09 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, female, 61, was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by Bedford firefighters after complaining of abdominal pain and not feeling well.  

12:24 p.m. — A fitness studio on Harris Road, Bedford Hills, reported a problem with an unwanted male patron whose membership was canceled due to overdue fees. Police were told he tried to slip in a workout using another member’s keyfob. The studio owner’s daughter confiscated the fob and the man got into a verbal argument with the gym owner. He left prior to police arrival. An officer attempted to reach him on his phone, but got a message the number was no longer in service. 


Friday, Nov. 29

4:32 p.m. — Police and Bedford fire personnel responded to a report of an out-of-control fire in a fireplace at a home on Hook Road, Bedford. On arrival, the homeowner had already extinguished the fire which was contained to the fireplace. Firefighters said the flue was closed, causing smoke to billow into the house. A female, 32, from Philadelphia complained of respiratory distress from smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment.  

8:10 p.m. — A caller reported a man lying by the side of Chestnut Hills Road, Bedford. North Castle Police received a similar report. Prior to their arrival, Bedford Police received a second call that their assistance was no longer needed as a neighbor helped the man into their car and took him to the hospital.  

8:32 p.m.— A black dog wearing a bandana was reported loose on Millertown Road, Bedford. Police saw the dog who eluded them and ran into the woods. The officer followed but lost track of the dog.  


Saturday, Nov. 30

4:33 p.m. — Two summonses were issued to the operator of a truck traveling on Cherry Street, Katonah, for loose and unsecured cargo.

10:04 p.m. — Police went to a home in Bedford Hills after parents reported their child left the house after they argued over an earring. The child packed a bag and left and was not responding to phone calls. An officer spoke to the child’s friend who said they were going to go to Brewster. Police intercepted the pair at the Bedford Hills train station and both children were brought home to their parents. 

10:48 p.m. — A loud party was reported on Davids Hill Road, Bedford Hills. Police spoke to the homeowner who said her son had some friends over and the volume would be lowered. 


Sunday, Dec. 1

10:38 a.m. — Police went to a car wash on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, and spoke with the manager about a patron who wouldn’t leave. The patron said he has a membership arrangement that wasn’t being honored. The manager said the man’s membership is for exterior cleaning only and he was attempting to get interior cleaning done by tipping employees something extra. When confronted about the issue, the man became combative and the manager canceled his membership altogether. Police informed the patron he’s been canceled. The man said he didn’t care and would take his business elsewhere.

4:09 p.m. — A resident of Guard Hill Road asked for assistance after she accidentally locked herself out of her Jeep Wrangler. She was assisted and soon on her way.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.
