Drug and weapon charges after car crash

On Friday, June 13, at 8:43 p.m., a resident of Katonah, male, 27, was arrested at Northern Westchester Hospital, charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon after his Toyota Corolla crashed on Cherry Street. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license. Police say the crash appears to have been caused by an unknown medical emergency. An ambulance was summoned and he was taken to the hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. An officer conducting an inventory search of his vehicle found a loaded firearm and a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. Police said he does not have a permit for the weapon. The officer went to the hospital and placed him under arrest. After being cleared by medical personnel, he was brought to police headquarters to be fingerprinted and processed. He was arraigned and sent to the county jail where at the time of this report, he remained.


Monday, June 9

3:14 p.m. — A couple came to police headquarters to report unwanted emails from a woman who used to reside at Fellowship Hall, Bedford Hills, but who no longer lives there. The couple work at Fellowship Hall and said the woman has a history of giving them a hard time. They haven’t seen her since 2019 but she continues to email them with challenging messages. The most recent correspondence was June 7. They requested a report for documentation and did not want police to contact her at this time.   

6:05 p.m. — A person having dinner at the Blue Dolphin restaurant on Katonah Avenue, Katonah, saw another car hit their legally parked car while trying to pull into a parking spot. Police arrived to help facilitate a cordial information exchange. Neither car required a tow.  


Tuesday, June 10

5:57 p.m. — A  resident of Pound Ridge, female, came to Bedford headquarters to report that a week earlier her fiance, who she said was intoxicated, became physically and verbally abusive to her in the presence of their young daughter. The reporting party only wanted the incident documented and a New York state domestic incident report was completed. Bedford Police sent their information to the Pound Ridge Police Department. Child protective services was notified of the incident. 

7:20 p.m. — A resident of Pound Ridge, male, 63, turned himself in at police headquarters after he was identified as a suspect in a theft from DeCicco & Sons market in Bedford. He was charged with petty larceny for stealing groceries from the store June 5. He was processed and scheduled to appear in Bedford court June 18. 

Throughout the day, Bedford Police followed up with domestic incidents reported prior on Old Katonah Road, Babbitt Road, Woodland Road, Terrace and Loop Road checking if the reporting parties needed additional resources. 


Wednesday, June 11

2:03 a.m. —  Police went to a home on Sunset Drive, Bedford Hills, after the resident said she accidentally locked her bathroom door from the inside and was unable to open it. Bedford Hills firefighters arrived on scene and opened the door. 

1:46 p.m. — A resident of Anderson Road, Katonah, reported her neighbor’s dog chasing her dog; the dogs fought and her dog was bitten but not injured. Police went to the home of the other dog owner and spoke with a roommate who said they would relay the information. The dog control officer investigating learned that an Amazon delivery driver broke up the dogfight.  Contact was made with the dog’s owner who said they were getting a gate to keep the dog from running off the property. The dog control officer provided them with the reporting party’s phone number and suggested they be in contact. 


Thursday, June 12

12:34 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a man sitting in a pickup truck at the Bedford Hills Memorial Park. The caller had it in his head that the man was photographing children playing even though there was no evidence this happened. Police spoke to the accused man who said he was waiting for a friend to go fishing in Lake Marie. He said this other man approached him and asked him what he was doing there. He showed police his fishing gear and no further action was taken.  

8:55 p.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, 27, reported as suicidal, was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC. Police provided him with the phone number of the Westchester County Mobile Crisis Team.  


Friday, June 13

10:30 a.m. — A barefoot man was reported walking on Guard Hill Road, Bedford Hills. Police encountered him in the vicinity of Darlington Road, where they saw multiple people walking; he was the only one who was barefoot. He said he lived nearby and was taking a walk. No further action was taken.  

11:24 a.m. — Police went to Bedford Hills Memorial Park for the same complaint as June 12; the same caller reporting a suspicious man in a pickup truck. They spoke to the fisherman again who had just finished fishing. Once again he said the same man approached him and asked him what he was doing. He showed the officer his rods, reels and other fishing equipment. Police said there was nothing suspicious. 

5:07 p.m. — Bedford Police went to the Bedford Correctional Facility on Harris Road, Bedford Hills, to assist with an inmate reported as suicidal, who was incoherent. They remained on scene until New York State Police took over.  


Saturday, June 14

3:11 p.m. — A resident of Cottage Terrace, Bedford Hills, reported a suspicious male in a blue jacket wearing a baseball cap walking on various properties. Police looked for the individual with negative results.

3:48 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, male, 33, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC after police found him intoxicated and visibly shaking. They were alerted to his presence after receiving a report about a man asking for money.  

4:40 p.m. — A large crowd gathered in front of the Bedford Correctional Facility on Harris Road, Bedford Hills, dispersed on police arrival. Police said they all walked to the train station and appeared to have gotten on the next train. Police had no information on why the crowd had gathered. 


Sunday, June 15

12:00 to 3:00 p.m. — Police conducted drone training exercises for members of their department at various locations including Route 22, Haines Road, Greenwich Road, Crusher Road and Harris Road. 

1:42 p.m. A brush fire was reported by someone traveling on Interstate 684. They said they saw the fire on Beaver Dam Road, Bedford. On police arrival, Katonah firefighters were on scene putting out a mulch fire. Multiple agencies soon responded to help extinguish the fire, including the Westchester County Department of Public Works. 

1:52 p.m. — A man reported unconscious by his wife was alert and sitting on a couch at his Bedford Hills home when police and medics arrived. He told police he’d felt lightheaded and must have passed out. He refused medical attention. 

8:52 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 20, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC for evaluation. She told police she’d been in a crash earlier that day and might have suffered a concussion.
