Graffiti maker arrested at train station
On Friday, July 11, at 11:05 a.m., a resident of Westbury, N.Y., male, 32, was arrested and charged with graffiti and defacing property. The prior afternoon, an officer on patrol observed him in the act working on the side of a bridge overpass in Bedford Hills by the train station; the man began running when he saw the officer. The next day, the officer saw him again in Bedford Hills; he ran again, but the officer followed him to the train station where he was stopped and arrested. He was brought to headquarters and processed and given a date to appear in court on July 30. Police described the graffiti as a “blob” with no apparent meaning or message.
Monday, July 7
1:11 a.m. — Staff at a group residence for young men on Old Post Road, Bedford, reported one of the residents had not been seen since the day before. Staff called back later to report that he’d returned.
8:30 a.m. — A resident of Falcon Woods Court, Bedford, called police to say her ex-husband took their son out of state in violation of their shared custody agreement. After reading the court order, police said there was no violation of the order which has no restrictions. The mother told police she heard from her son who told her it was his idea to go on the trip.
11: 52 a.m. — An unresponsive female, 72, from Katonah, was awake and conscious when Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived and transported her to Northern Westchester Hospital. Police said she has dementia.
7:19 p.m. — A female, 77, from Bedford Hills, fell on the sidewalk on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, and was found lying on the ground, holding her arm. Police said there was a language barrier and used translation software to contact her son. She was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC in the company of a police officer.
Tuesday, July 8
3:29 p.m. — An older man was reported refusing to leave the drive-thru window at the CVS pharmacy on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. He told police he’d waited 15 minutes in the car line for the customer in front of him to be served and he would do the same. Police advised him to move his car to an authorized parking space and wait there until his prescription was ready.
5:00 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, male, 41, was found heavily intoxicated on the Bedford Hills train platform. Police said there was a language barrier and the man was crying. An ambulance was called and he was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by KBHVAC.
Wednesday, July 9
12:18 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a dog struck by a car on Jay Street near the Katonah Museum of Art. On arrival, they saw the dog, deceased, with the caller, whose car hit it. While police were attempting to call a number on the dog’s collar, the owner appeared, crying. Police say he was very emotional and fell down. An ambulance was requested but after a check of his vitals, he declined further attention. He was assisted by the responding officer in getting the dog to his home.
6:19 p.m. — A resident of Ridgefield, Conn., female, 68, was transported by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital after experiencing an allergic reaction to ice cream she’d eaten earlier.
8:48 p.m. — “A massive snapping turtle” was reported in the road on Cherry Street, Katonah. Prior to police arrival, civilians using a shovel moved the reptile into a wooded area.
Thursday, July 10
9:28 p.m. — A woman moving homes from School Street, Bedford Hill, to Yorktown reported medication she thought she’d placed in her car was missing once she got on the roadway. She returned to her old residence to look for it but didn’t find it. A report of the lost medication was made for documentation.
6:26 p.m. — A water condition reported on Cottage Place, Katonah, was handled by Katonah firefighters. The exact nature of the condition is unknown. The homeowner, who was absent from the premises, was notified of the condition and action taken.
Friday July 11
1:43 p.m. — Keys accidentally dropped down a storm drain on Valley Road, Katonah, were retrieved by the highway department.
4:28 p.m. — Police responded to a two-car collision in Bedford Hills at Springhurst Road and McLainStreet. One operator, who rear-ended the driver in front of him, had a suspended registration for insurance lapses. They were issued a summons and their car was impounded.
Saturday, July 12
6:06 a.m. — A male, 2, was transported from his home in Bedford Village by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital after his nanny reported uncontrollable crying. On their arrival, police say the child felt very warm and appeared to be having trouble breathing. A breather mask was applied until medics arrived. The child’s mother, who was out of town, was apprised of the situation.
8:18 p.m. — A resident of Brookfield, Conn., male, 21, was arrested and charged with DWI after rear-ending another driver on Bedford Road. The driver he rear-ended stopped but he didn’t. That driver followed him to the DeCicco’s parking lot in Katonah and called the police. On their arrival, they observed the hit-and-run driver’s eyes were glassy and he had slurred speech. Open containers of alcohol were observed inside his car. Field sobriety tests were initiated. He was arrested and brought to headquarters for processing. Four summonses were issued and a court date of July 23.
Sunday, July 13
5:44 p.m. — A bear reported in the dog park on Beaver Dam Road, Katonah, was gone on police arrival.
9:27 p.m. — A woman was given a courtesy ride to the train station in Katonah after a man she met at an establishment in Katonah invited her back to his home. Police say there was a misunderstanding between the two and he wanted her gone.
10:42 p.m. — A rowdy crowd was reported at the Bedford Hills Memorial Park. Police report it was two baseball teams ending their game and heading to their cars.
11:23 p.m. — A motorcycle collided with a deer on Bedford Road, Katonah, in front of the KBHVAC building. Police say the bike was damaged but rideable. The operator said they weren’t injured. The deer was not found.
