Land Conservancy promotes Dave Prosser

The Pound Ridge Land Conservancy has announced the promotion of Dave Prosser to director of land stewardship. 

Since joining the PRLC in April 2023, Prosser has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to PRLC’s work in land conservation and environmental education, the group said.

In his new position, Prosser will lead stewardship and grant writing for PRLC, manage all volunteer programs, and oversee the care and maintenance of 20 preserves with over 12 miles of trails. 

“In less than two years with PRLC, Dave has grown tremendously in the scope of his work he is doing for us as he extends his already-strong skill set with experience in Pound Ridge,” said Jack Wilson, president of the group’s board. “We rely on Dave’s leadership and judgment in areas far beyond his initial responsibilities and we want his title to reflect the expansion of his role with PRLC.”

Prosser is enthusiastic about his new role.

“I am honored to step into this leadership position and am eager to continue working with our dedicated board and the community to promote environmental stewardship and land conservation,” he said.

The promotion comes as the land conservancy celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of land preservation and environmental advocacy.


Caramoor president leaving at end of March

Caramoor President and CEO Edward J. Lewis III will leave the organization March 31 to pursue new opportunities closer to his home in Washington, D.C.

Bedford Police Report Jan. 20-26

Monday, Jan. 20

12:35 p.m. — Police officers participated in sleigh rides with the public at the Katonah Memorial Park on High Street, Katonah, for community relations. It was reported the officers rode sleds and that “everyone had a great time.” 

4:38 p.m. — Police say they were alerted by staff at a group home on The Terrace, Katonah, of a male, 45, behaving in an out-of-control manner. An ambulance was summoned and the man was calm by the time the ambulance arrived and did not resist transport. 

6:43 p.m. — A resident of Wildwood Road, Katonah, reported their son was on their property in violation of a court order that he not be there without permission. An active order of protection is in place, police said. He was no longer there when police arrived but was contacted; he told police he was retrieving a bike he’d left in the shed and was at a nearby hotel. Police advised him to notify his parents first if he wanted to come onto their property. 


Tuesday, Jan. 21

2:56 p.m. — An employee at the science museum at the Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road, Mount Kisco, reported two men driving a red pickup truck who made uncomfortable statements to her and were still on the property. Police spoke to the men, who were identified. They were told their remarks were unwelcome and they should leave. A report was made for documentation.  

5:33 p.m. — A resident of Rome Avenue, Bedford Hills, reported her ex-boyfriend continues to contact her and her family despite her blocking him. Police advised her to follow up in family court and possibly pursue an order of protection. A New York state domestic incident report was completed on her behalf. The man was contacted by police and was told to cease contact.  


Wednesday, Jan. 22

1:47 p.m. — A teenage girl reported to be experiencing an “altered mental state” was taken from her Katonah home to Westchester Medical Center by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps after ingesting an authorized medication that caused a seizure. She was conscious and alert on police arrival but said she’d been “out of it” prior to their arrival. No further information was provided.


Thursday, Jan. 23

1:52 p.m. — The director of operations at a car dealership on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, reported finding a bullet on the property. Police arrived and said on their inspection the “bullet” was a facsimile wrapped in plastic with a camouflage pattern. Learning it wasn’t an actual bullet, the man said he would throw it out.  

3:47 p.m. — A female, 38, from Bedford Hills was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after a sledding accident. Police said she suffered lacerations, specifically a deep cut on her chin, that was no longer heavily bleeding when medics arrived. No further information was provided.


Friday, Jan. 24

4:47 p.m. — A traffic ticket was issued to a driver on Bedford Road and Hill Street,  Bedford Hills, for not using their left turn signal.  

4:55 p.m. — A driver traveling on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, was issued a ticket in front of the firehouse for disobeying a traffic control device.  


Saturday, Jan. 25

12:13 a.m. — A hazardous material situation was reported by the resident of a guest house on Captain Theale Road, Bedford. The tenant reported “a hissing sound” coming from a mini-fridge located in the bedroom. Bedford firefighters arrived and unplugged the appliance and told the tenant to move it from their bedroom. No hazards were found. 

1:37 p.m. — A resident of Schnectedy, male, 55, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps from a Katonah home after a caller reported a suicidal male. On police arrival, he made statements of self-harm. An ambulance was requested and he was transported. No further information was provided.  


Sunday, Jan. 26

5:14 p.m. — A water condition was reported at a home on Pinebrook Road, Bedford. Bedford firefighters were on scene providing guidance to the homeowner.  

8:50 p.m. — A resident of Long Ridge Road, Bedford, reported a water condition at their home. When police arrived the homeowner said no help was needed as their neighbor came over and fixed the problem.
