Yellow Studio hopes to become a place for artists to thrive
Yellow Studio has announced the formation of Yellow Studio Arts Center Inc., a charitable nonprofit corporation dedicated to supporting women artists, writers, lifelong learners and their allies.
Based at Yellow Monkey Village off Route 35 in Cross River, Yellow Studio is a creative hub and art gallery rooted in the belief that creativity thrives in community.
The new organization said it will carry forward Yellow Studio’s mission-driven work, including community clubs, workshops, free public exhibitions, an artist residency program, and a newly established scholarship fund.
For members, artists and visitors, nothing about the everyday experience of Yellow Studio changes, the organization said. The programming will continue in the same space located at 792 Route 35.
What changes is what becomes possible around them. As a nonprofit, Yellow Studio Arts Center is able to seek foundation grants, institutional support and tax-deductible charitable contributions that were not previously available, and to direct that support toward keeping programming accessible and open to the public.
Fees for workshops, membership, and the residency are set at or below cost rather than at market rate, so that participation is never limited by ability to pay, the organization said.
A scholarship fund will provide assistance to individuals who lack the means to participate so that cost is never the reason someone can’t be part of the community, the studio said.
