Take a 100-mile hike for centennial celebration

Enthusiasts of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation can soon mark its 100-year anniversary with a 100-mile hike.

Ward Pound Ridge Reservation will celebrate its 100th year in 2025 and, to kick things off, is launching a 100-Mile Hike Challenge in which entrants aim to hike 100 miles at the park by May 7, 2025. Registration is required and it is free to participate.

Participants of the challenge will have six months to complete it. Those who are successful will be recognized at the park’s 100-year anniversary celebration at the WPR on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

“Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is the largest park in the Westchester County Parks system, with 4,315 acres and 35 miles of hiking trails,” County Executive George Latimer said. “This 100-Mile Hike Challenge is not only a great way to celebrate the park’s centennial, but is also a great way for residents both familiar and unfamiliar with the park to explore it.”

“The staff at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is hard at work on setting up activities to celebrate the park’s 100th year, including the 100-Mile Hike Challenge,” said Kathy O’Connor, commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.

“The Reservation is picturesque year-round and participants of the challenge will have the chance to experience it in fall, winter and spring.”

Participants will be able to log their miles through the RunSignup website in order to track their progress over the six-month challenge.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display.

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.
