Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Pound Ridge Police Report April 22-28

Police crack down on drivers using cellphones

Tuesday, April 22

4:52 p.m. — A caller on Old Mill River Road reported a pipe leaking oil they regarded as hazardous. Firefighters on arrival said it was an old heating line that was not leaking. There was no hazard.  

5:16 p.m. — The operator of a motorcycle traveling on Stone Hill Road was taken to Stamford Hospital by an unknown driver after a collision. Police say the bike was towed. No further information was provided.


Wednesday, April 23

6:45 p.m. — A female, age and condition unknown, was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 


Thursday, April 24

7:00 a.m. — A caller on High Ridge Road reported a noisy leaf blower at work before legal hours to operate it. Police searched the area with negative results.

8:15 a.m. — A traffic summons was issued to a driver traveling on High Ridge Road for driving to the left of road markings.  

8:20 a.m. —A female, age and condition unknown, was taken to Stamford Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

8:35 a.m. — Three drivers were issued tickets while traveling on Pound Ridge Road while using their cellphones. 

5:15 p.m. — A male, age and condition unknown, was taken to Stamford Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

5:40 p.m. — Three drivers were issued tickets while traveling on Westchester Avenue while using their cellphones. 


Friday, April 25

7:30 a.m. — A one-car crash on Lower Trinity Pass Road resulted in no injuries and no tow.

9:30 a.m. — A caller reported a disabled vehicle traveling on Pound Ridge Road. Police looked for the car but it was gone prior to their arrival. 

10:15 a.m. — Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a medical alert at a Pound Ridge home. On their arrival, the resident said the alert was accidentally set off.

9:00 p.m. — A traffic detail police conducted on Westchester Avenue resulted in no violations. 


Saturday, April 26

2:00 p.m. — A radar detail on Westchester Avenue resulted in no violations.  

6:40 p.m. — A female, age and condition unknown, was taken to Stamford Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 


Sunday, April 27

7:20 a.m. — Police and Pound Ridge ambulance personnel aided with a lift assist at a home. The resident refused further medical attention. 

4:40 p.m. — A potential health and safety hazard was reported on Dingee Road. Police on arrival observed wires hanging from some tree limbs. They said the road was passable and the utility was notified. 

10:22 p.m. — A male, age unknown, was taken to Stamford Hospital by Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 


Monday, April 28

8:37 a.m. — A driver on Westchester Avenue was issued a summons for having a windshield too darkly tinted, a violation.
